Great Spot!

Guest: Kirsten (Burlington VT)
Date of Stay: 02/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/21/12

4 cozy bedrooms, a large open living area and plenty of kitchen cooking space - perfect for a large group. We came in February and loved the hot tub and wood-burning stove. So close to Bard - just a few minutes. Marlene was very helpful with every logistical detail. Thanks again!

Owner response:Great-happy to hear that you enjoyed the house and your weekend was a success! Thanks & please come back and visit! Best,

What a wonderful time we had in Rhinebeck this New Year's weekend. The house was in great condition, the grounds were peaceful and private. I would not hesitate to rent this house again. Thanks to Marlene for thinking of everything (the games closet was clutch).

Autumn Weekend Getaway/Wedding

Guest: Milanomaker (West Chester, Pa)
Date of Stay: 10/08/10 Review Submitted: 10/29/10

Our weekend getaway to Rhinebeck, NY, went very smoothly. Your home was very comfortable, and roomy. All of the amenities listed in the description of the home were accurate, and we enjoyed the hot tub on the warm afternoons. The home was clean, and well taken care of. Emergency numbers, local restaurants, grocery store numbers were all provided. All we needed to do was relax and enjoy our visit. The pool looked beautiful, but, it was October, and didn't get the chance to go for a swim. The wildlife, (deer), wondered into the yard each day, and the serenity of the area, made the home that much more enjoyable. There was plenty to do in the home, with video games for kids, satellite tv, dvd, etc... We enjoyed the charming Rhinecliff Inn, for a wedding we were attending during that weekend. I would definatley recommend this property to anyone who enjoys a quiet, tranquil setting. The home was perfect for our two families, with the option of having one family on the first floor, and our's on the second floor. The surrounding area, along with the beautiful Hudson River made this a truly wonderful weekend. Thanks.

Hi Marlene, I just wanted to drop you a note letting you know what an absolutely wonderful time we had this past weekend. We were fortunate to enjoy the pool, hot tub and fantastic deck space with the beautiful weather. Your home was more than we could've anticipated, warm, cozy and accessible to everything. Thank you again so very much for the oppotunity to celebrate my husband's birthday with our dearest friends in a such a fantastic way! Hope all is well, Taryn

Ruined Vacation - Rhinebeck House of Horrors

Guest: NY Vacationer (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/07/10 Review Submitted: 10/03/10

We rented this home for a highly anticipated two week vacation in August 2010. We were so disturbed with the condition of the home that we vacated the premises after four nights. We don’t think our expectations were unreasonable given the advertisement and pictures. This was our experience: The Bad: Filth. Rodent droppings throughout the home, kitchen floors that blackened a paper towel simply by rubbing on the surface, insect infestation that included very large spiders. An abundance of new and ancient cob webs that contained dead and decaying critters (in very easily accessible places for cleaning – we’re not talking on the rafters here). We wondered when the last time the property was inspected by the owner or cleaned. We also had the luxury of suffering from the heat. When we rented the home, it was indicated on the site that there was central air. In fact, only two rooms are actually air conditioned. The main living room and one bed room. ONLY one bedroom out of the four is air conditioned. If you are planning to spend some quality time on the deck or by the pool – think again. The deck is in a dilapidated state. Shoes are certainly required and we wouldn’t let our four year old daughter play on it. The outdoor furniture required the use of cushions that were soiled with excrement and dirt and were so moldy you wouldn’t want to touch them let alone lay on them. The Good: The pool was very nice. Unfortunately, the chaise lounges were completely unusable. Our mistake was waiting three days before notifying the owner. We were so looking forward to this vacation that my wife and I were in complete denial of the situation and refused to communicate to each other for fear of ruining a trip for the other one. We are low maintenance people who, to our detriment, are not complainers. A spider the size of a silver dollar walking up my wife’s arm while she was feeding our baby was the event that forced us to acknowledge to each other just how horrified we were. When we did contact the owner, she was very responsive. A cleaning person arrived that afternoon. However, it seemed all that she did was vacuum and move a mop around. The rodent droppings were untouched as were easily accessible cob webs and the bugs came right back. To anyone considering staying at this property – consider yourself warned. We would hate for you to end up as disappointed as our family was when we had to pack up two little kids and lose a lot of money.

Owner response:We maintain that the Customer is Always Right...but some people are just downright dishonest....demanded refund after 5 staying 5 days...

A truly wonderful experience!

Guest: Matt (Brooklyn, NY / USA)
Date of Stay: 01/29/10 Review Submitted: 02/01/11

My experience at this vacation home was truly a wonderful experience. My golden retriever absolutely loved the 3+ acre yard; especially chipmunks, squirrels, deer, and even occasional rabbit or wild turkey. After a day of walking through the backyard trails, exhausted, i was able to comfortably unwind to my book by the fireplace and doze off in a comfortable slumber. Upon waking up, i made the short journey down to the village and had what was perhaps one of the best meals in recent memory. I departed the home truly relaxed and with total peace of mind. I was left with the nostalgia of nature's tranquility, and with the happiness that it can coexist just minutes from the sprawling village of Rhinebeck. Bottom line: the house itself was beautiful, and its location (both isolated yet near town) was ideal. It was relaxing, fun, and a true vacation retreat. I will definitely return in the near future :)

Can't wait to go back ...

Date of Stay: 09/25/09 Review Submitted: 10/11/09

We rented this lovely house for a reunion and could not have had a more magical experience. The house was clean and stocked with everything we could need. The bedrooms were comfortable, the kitchen bright and welcoming. There was plenty of room to sit and chat both inside the livingroom and outside on the deck. We were even able to squeeze some time in to relax in the hot tub! We didn't get a chance to try out the pool but that will be on our list for the next time. We were welcomed at night by fireflies and a clear bright starry night. We couldn't have asked for anything more. We had such a great time that we're already talking about when we can all get together and do it again!! If you are looking for a nice, clean, spacious, welcoming place to rent you can stop looking - this IS the place! We can't sing it's praises enough - or those of the home owner, Marlene, who was available and helpful with any and all questions we had prior to our stay.

Owner response:Thank you for the feedback...it's such a pleasure to have such wonderful guests! You're welcome back anytime! Best regards, Marlene

Getting away from the bustle of Brooklyn was our goal. This house offered all of the comforts of home and is the quietest place I have visited. The pool was our oasis and our 2 sons delighted in the the serenity of the woods. We rescued quite a few frogs from the pool. We were amazed at all of the wildlife we encountered. On several occasions I saw a beautiful blonde fox on the property as well as chipmunks, a shrew, bats and hummingbirds. On a few of our outings into the charming town of Rhinebeck we encountered deer, wild turkeys, turkey vultures and a muskrat. As nature lovers we were so happy. We were so comfortable and on a few occasions had the opportunity to entertain friends who enjoyed the pool and the hot tub. Some of my favorite times were rising at dawn to walk our dog on the quiet road which circles the tiny neighborhood. Not once did I encounter another person on these walks and that, for a change was lovely, allowing me to be lost in my thoughts.A wonderful time was had by all.

Owner response:Thank you for your lovely comment... It's wonderful to have such gracious guests! Thanks again, Best, Marlene

We had a terrific week at this house with our kids. The location is great -- very convenient to the village of Rhinebeck and to great hikes and historic sites along the Hudson, and the house is on a quiet street. The house and property are lovely, especially the pool.

My husband and I rented this lovely house in Early Sept and we had the most wonderful time! The house was large and nicely furnished. The pool was set back on the edge of the woods and a family of deer wandered up to watch us swim, only to be followed by a bunch of wild turkeys! Rhinebeck is a great town to vacation in. The resturants were great. And we never ran out of things to do. It was a wonderful trip.

We had a fantastic time at the country retreat, Rhinebeck is beautiful and the house wants for nothing. We loved the area, got 4 days skiing up at Belleayre, saw the Hudson frozen over and watched the deer in the garden. We had an all round wonderful vacation, shame we had to go home! Thanks

I found the house spacious and comfortable. I'd definitely return for another stay but would urge the owners to consider investing in a larger Television for the woodstove room.

Marlene: What a great week we had at #6 Winston! We were delighted to find the house exactly as advertised, and the proximity to Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Bard, Omega...is an especially welcomed convenience. Having visited the Rhinebeck area more times than we can remember over the last 4 decades...your house is one of the most comfortable accommodations we have stayed in over the years. We are looking forward to our 2 week return in August...and are already making plans for another visit in mid September! Thanks for being there!!! Jayne and Raymond Gombach Suffern, New York

What a change from mismatched cookware and linens in most rentals. Cotton sheets and spreads and a well-equipped kitchen. And beautiful Granny Smith apples to greet us from the kitchen table. Warm inside, cold outside, altogether great!

Hi Marlene, I wanted to thank you again for such a wonderful experience at the house in Rhinebeck. My friends and I had a dream vacation. We spent our time walking through the village, dining out and cooking meals at the house, sitting by the fire in the woodburning stove, watching TV and playing board games, and spotting wildlife right in the backyard. Thank you so much for your quick and helpful responses to all of my many questions. The seven of us plan to make a habit of visiting your house in Rhinebeck every winter!

Marlene was so accommodating on such short notice. We had only 48 hours to make arrangements to attend a nearby family funeral. The home was lovely and inviting, my son had a ball outside with nature and during the snow storm (Being from Florida, this was a treat!). Would highly recommend this lovely country home. Plus, being originally from New York it was nice to re-acquaint myself with Rhinebeck. Thanks again Marlene.
