BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!!! I contacted an exterminator to evaluate the property. On 7/7, he documented bed bugs in both bedrooms. Therefore, we immediately packed up our belongings as advised by the professional (double bagged) and vacated the house. To avoid bringing bed bugs to our home, we checked into a hotel and began the decontamination process. We treated most of our clothes with industrial high heat washers. We also discarded pillows, luggage, the portable crib, toys and various other items. The exterminator also ruled out bed bugs in the homes of the two families who we were in contact with, costing in excess of $1,000. Clearly, this was a horrific, traumatic, experience instead of a family vacation. We have since returned to our home, 7/9, where we are living with renovations. Owner has NOT responded to our request for refund.

Owner response: Come on be fair!!! We deserve a better review than this. Lincoln rented the whole month of July, the house was completely cleaned and sanitized before for his arrival. On the arrival day, Lincoln demanded our manager Joe to buy him a new expensive brand of vacuum plus a particular kind of child safety gate. Next day, we provided all items he asked for and they are all newly purchased from Home Depot, no questions asked. A week later, Lincoln mentioned there are ants on the front porch area and asked us to bring him a specific brand of spray which we also delivered on the same day. Lincoln has the entire month to access and stay at the property but he still use a ridiculous "bed bug" reason to demand $5,000 in compensation when he left. We felt sad that Lincoln purposely dishonored the agreement and we hope he is able to end playing tricks on the matter.

First let me say we loved our stay at this house. It's very close to NYC and was perfect for us because we were spending part of our stay touring NYC and part of it visiting friends and family in the greater NY area. We didn't want to stay in NYC because (a) we wanted a house and (b) we didn't want to deal with NYC traffic on the days we were travelling elsewhere. The neighborhood is very pleasant. The mayor lives two doors down, and the property is across the street from a park, community swimming pool, and recreation center. All of your standard chain restaurants (chili's, panera bread, etc.) are nearby, and there was even a Bonefish Grill which was a pleasant surprise. There's also a movie theatre, super Walmart and Sam's club, and an outlet mall. The house is a hop/skip/jump from NYC. We parked our car at the Secaucus Junction train station (10 minute drive from house) for $19 (for 12 hours) and NYC is literally one stop away (you'll be in NYC within 20 minutes of parking your car every time). Coming back is even quicker because there is always a train boarding for Secaucus (half of the NJ Transit trains stop in Secaucus). For a family of 4, we paid $23 roundtrip. It might be cheaper on the weekends. The house is modest (2 beds/2 baths) but all the key components are there. Very comfortable bedding (I think it was a tempurpedic memory foam mattress), strong water pressure, a fully functioning kitchen, and plenty of comfortable seating. The Wi-fi worked great. The furnishings were modest (in some instances very modest) but the onsite manager (a gentleman named Joe) was always available and incredibly helpful. Thankfully we didn't need him for any major issues (we just couldn't get the key out of the lockbox when we first arrived and the landscapers left the back gate open at one point) but when we did call him, he was incredibly responsive and helpful, and always made sure to let us know that we could call him for anything. If you are looking for a house near NYC that's a good value, I would highly recommend this place.

Owner response: Aaron, thanks so much for sharing your reviews on our page. I'm glad to hear you had a great time and the house worked out just right for your holiday. Like you said, this location is truly convenient to NYC while being surrounded by nature. On your review, you mentioned about not wanting to deal with traffics in NYC, our town was just the right fit and it does makes feeling of being in a quiet little town. The swimming pool and recreation center were newly constructed, I can't wait to visit on my next trip back home. Thanks again for renting this modest home from us, hope to see you coming back again anytime soon.

My wife and i had the opportunity to stay at this home for a week long New York adventure, and I cant say enough positive things. The location was superb, as it was a 15 minute bus ride into midtown Manhattan. The house is located on a quiet street with woods directly in front and a wild area behind the house so there was virtually no noise. The location was close to all amenities and a walk of a few minutes to the nearest bus stop. It was the best of both worlds with city proximity and peace and quiet. The home was well laid out with 2 full bedrooms, 2 complete bathrooms, and a large living / dining / kitchen area. The kitchen was well stocked with anything we required. We are looking forward to our next rip to New York, and plan to stay at this location in future.

Definitely a not stay! improperly fitted windows allowed cold air to come in at night; generally not a clean house, furnishings a bit shabby. Cable-TV service had not been renewed and owner wanted us to install replacement unit. Improperly repaired furnace unit caused steam to come into living quarters. Final straw was bed bugs!! Owner refused to an amicable settlement. Would not recommend this property under any circumstances.

Owner response: I felt disappointed getting such dishonest review from Virgil. This modest home is kept clean by a professional service with things that works well for our guests. We always make sure if guests would have any further needs on the day of arrival. Virgil confirmed that he was happy with the house on the same day he checked in and even days later, he asked us to add extra Spanish language channels on cable and we fulfilled his needs almost immediately. After more than a week of Virgil stayed, we started to received numerous ambiguous threats from him demanding for free rent and compensation. I regret that this review board was used as a tool for convenient threats in order to get a free rent. We delivered everything described on our listing. Virgil's case we experienced was consider normal compared to all other guests we work with on VRBO.

We are from Spain. Family of 4 members and first trip to the USA for my wife and children of 11 and 13 years. It couldn’t have been better for them: hectic days in New York, a great experience. Regarding the house, we really enjoyed it, we felt like in home. Everything was ok, super clean, and we had plenty of space. It was nice to return to somewhere peaceful and relaxing alter so much activity in NY. The house is an ideal location providing the right balance between the noisy NY and a quiet suburban location. Thank you very much for a great time, you are very lucky to have such a nice house so well placed.

We have lived a month in Jay's house (from end of April 2011 to the end of May) and have found house very livable and neat. New furnishings in kitchen and the second-floor bathroom are welcome detail in a house that is quite simple and spartan in other ways. We have two very little kids so it took a trip to a neighboring Walmart (works round the clock, 7 minute drive) and an order from Amazon to make the house kid-friendly - get the gates for the stairs, kid's furniture, baby monitors, etc. In two days we were "up and running" :-) Location-wise the house is almost ideal - you will be just 20-30 minutes from affluent Bergen county with kid's Zoo, tens of great playground, and upscale shopping in Garden State Plaza. 10-15 minutes drive in the another direction - and you in NYC with unlimited options to spend your time&money. Minor issue - the TV set is outdated, it doesn't have any digital connections, so you won't be able to connect it to any modern device (AppleTV, Playstation and others). Larger issue - the house stands at the edge of a former swamp therefore sometimes it smells funny, and it's close to some machinery (I have no idea what is it's purpose) and it can be noisy (not loud but persistent). Another minor thing - the backyard is huge but quite useless as it is mostly concrete and big part of it is a pool that operates few months a year. The lovely park across the street is also quite spartan (unpaved pathways, very simple playground) but it is great to have it. The owner is supportive and very positive. We have had no problem communicating with Jay and his aide.

Owner response: Thank you for pointing out what was offered in the property, as well as how convenient location wise while making day trips to NYC from our home. As owners we often take these for granted and forget to tell about these wonderful places. We are glad you felt comfortable and at home at our modest house in Secaucus and are happy you were able to enjoy the quietness and views of the park. We hope to have you back soon!

We rented this home for Easter weekend so we wouldn't be cramped in a hotel for our visit to NYC.. It was the perfect place to stay and gave us plenty of room to spread out. The neighborhood seemed very quiet and safe and it was perfect for commuting to New York. The owner was quick to respond to our questions and easy to deal with. The only thing I would recommend is that you bring your towels-- there were five in the house but there was five of us so I had to wash them after everyone had a shower so that we could have fresh ones for the next day. Also we commuted to New York by going to the bus station near the Secaucus library and riding the bus in-- we found this to be the easiest way to get to New York City after asking around. Overall a great place to stay..
