The Huston Family Cabin is located roughly 2.5 miles off of Mecham Drive up a scenic road alongside Cedar Creek. Sitting at an altitude of 7200+ feet, makes it an average of 5-10 degrees cooler than Mid-town. Nestled at the edge of the Lincoln National Forest, there is an abundance of wildlife including mule deer, elk, hummingbirds and the occasional bear. The large front deck allows for guests to sit outside and take-in the cool mountain air, all while enjoying the outdoors and the serenity of the mountains. For those families seeking peace and quiet and a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city or for couples seeking a weekend away, this cabin will meet your expectations.
The cabin has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The master bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed and a wall-mount TV. The second bedroom has a set of twin/full bunk beds and a TV. The cabin has ceiling fans, heat via furnace and a wood burning stove. The Huston Family Cabin was purchased in 2009 for the owners’ second home as a retreat from the Texas heat. After many years of searching, this was the owners’ heaven sent cabin. The cabin has been newly refurnished for comfort and relaxation. The kitchen comes fully stocked with the necessary spices, utensils and cookware. There is a washer and dryer available upon request. Patio furniture and a grill are provided on the deck. Coffee, hot chocolate, hummingbird and wildlife feed are provided.
There are 2 trailheads within minutes of the doorstep that lead into the Lincoln National Forest. Also, at the entrance of Cedar Creek there is a jogging/fitness trail as well as a day-use picnic area. The cabin is centrally located within minutes of Ruidoso Mid-town shopping and Ski Apache. Also nearby is the airport, Flying J Chuck wagon dinner and show, the local grocery store, movie theatre, restaurants and excellent trout fishing at Bonita Lake.

My son and I loved the trip and the arrangements were great. We were comfortable and well taken care of in the cabin. Since we love to hike, it was a joy to be somewhere that we could simply walk out the door and hit the mountain trails. Over a three day period we spent 9 hours hiking, often bumping into mule deer in different places. Coming home to the well stocked, cozy cabin was a blessing. We flopped onto comfortable furniture and rested to fun movies. The only down side of the trip was a neighbor who does not seem to appreciate nature and litters quite a bit; we kept the curtains closed on that side of the cabin and imagined he did not exist.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.

My family of 4 had a new and wonderful white Christmas experience! We were thrilled with our cabin rental. The owners were fantastic to work with as well! The cabin was cute, cozy, clean, tidy and very organized! They had decorated it for Christmas which was a huge plus. The owners had it well stocked with Christmas M&Ms, candy canes, coffee and creamer, beautiful dishes, glassware, pots & pans, utensils, sharp knives, a great selection of spices, tea, hot chocolate mix, etc. They also have a great basement which was well supplied with corn to feed the many deer who came daily for breakfast and dinner. There was even a trough on the side of the cabin used for feeding the deer. We took lots of great pictures to capture our many wonderful memories! In addition, they provided bird seed which we used to feed the neighboring chickens and the gorgeous blue jays, wood peckers and smaller varieties of birds. We were blessed with snow on Christmas eve so we were able to use their tobogans to sled down the adjoining hill. That was certainly a thrill! The cabin is located in a beautiful setting of pine trees. We were so glad that it was far enough away from the main street and up a smaller side street that it was quiet and peaceful. Every touch and thoughtfulness of the owners was greatly appreciated. We hope to return soon and often! P.S. We love the COMFY COUCHES!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

It was such a pleasure to come to this cabin and find everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, lovely fireplace, spacious well equipped kitchen and comfortable living room furniture. . The views through the trees were great and this group of deer came through each day. The owners provided deer food, we filled the feeder and they were so beautiful! We were there for a family reunion in Ruidoso and it was only a 10 minute drive to the center of town with its racetrack and casino and restaurants. My only regret was that we didn't spend more time at the cabin, on that comfortable spacious deck just enjoying it all!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Stayed 5 nights and could have stayed another week. These owners thought of everything. . . .other than the food you eat, everything else had been thought of. The cabin was nestled in the back of the Lincoln National Forest but still yet only about 6 minutes to town. Got up every morning listening to the birds sing and watching the deer feed. There was corn and bird seed left by the owners so we could enjoy watching the wildlife feed. So peaceful that we had to get use to the quietness, which, didn't take that long. I definitely would recommend this cabin and give it a 2 thumbs up!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our stay at Heaven Sent was really heaven sent. It was just what we needed to rest and relax. The cabin was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We loved to sit out on the deck and watch the birds, hummingbirds and deer as they came up. We enjoyed feeding the deer also, one night there were at least 10 of them there. Heaven Sent cabin is in a nice location. Not too far off the beaten path, but far enough off so that you don't hear traffic except for the occasional car that drives up the road. There are no other cabins/houses too close either. We felt that we were in our own little world. Listening to the wind blow through the tree tops was so soothing. There is a fitness trail at the entrance to the road behind the ranger station. My daughter and I walked it one morning. I wish that we had done it every morning. There are two loops, one is shorter with fitness exercises to do along it, the other is longer, over a mile. The longer one is the one we did. Heaven Sent provided us with a notebook of things to do and places to go. There were also a number of brochures provided too. We highly recommend going to the Spencer Theater in Alto if there is an event going on that you are interested in. Shopping on Main Street is fun too. In the cabin's description, it says that there is plenty of utensils and spices to cook with. We were very pleased at the variety of options we had and what was provided. It was exceptional! The property owners were very good about returning my calls and emails. I would definately recommend Heaven Sent cabin as a place to stay. It was wonderful!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was our second summer to stay at the Heaven Sent Cabin. Once again our experience was outstanding. Clean, comfortable and quiet are the best descriptors. Lots of deer came through each day. The hummingbird watching on the spacious deck was very entertaining. It was a bit warmer this year (90 degrees when we left the racetrack); however, the temp at the cabin was generally 8 to 10 degrees cooler than in Ruidoso proper. I would definitely recommend this cabin again. Great place to escape the Texas heat. Lots of entertaining things to do in the area as well.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: We would like to thank our guests for returning to Heaven Sent this year. We can only hope that the weather patterns will return to normal soon to bring the cooler temperatures and much needed rainfall that the Ruidoso area needs expecially after the fires of 2012.

It was one of best places we have stayed. We took our granddaughters10 and 11, they had the best time. we weren't ready to leave. Cabin was a home away from home, nice and clean. We enjoyed going back to the cabin and sitting out enjoying the weather and watching the deer come in. Randy and Delana are the nicest people and wanted to thank them for sharing their wonderful cabin with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: We so much appreciate the continued support from our guests. We value their opinions and will continue to strive to make Heaven Sent a Home Away From Home.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin! It is very cozy and welcoming. The area was very beautiful and allowed us to get away from it all and enjoy some quiet time. Our favorite part? Enjoying coffee out on the deck while watching the deer run around! It was fantastic and we hope to come back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children.
