Loved the neighborhood. Used the metro all week. Bought the $35 short pass and it worked just fine. Was only over 40 cents on 1 ride. Even took metro to the airport verses a taxi ride. It was easy to take green or yellow and then transfer when needed. Ate at The Heights 2x and Lou's once. Felt comfortable running in area in the AM. Grocery was close which helped with snacks and breakfast in the apartment. Beds were comfortable. Apartment was small. Kitchen was good but ice maker did not work and had only 1 small ice tray. Washer worked but dryers were not working and had to deal with hanging clothes. Was not fixed before we left. Did have some peeling paint that needed attention. Looked like they may be replacing some windows soon. Nice to come back to apartment after full day of walking. Bike tour of monuments, Library of Congress, Kenndey Center Millinimum Stage (free 6pm events every day) 911 Memorial at Pentagon were my favorites. Location was great.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway.

This place was conveniently located to the Columbia Heights metro and one block east the street had many restaurants and places to get a drink. Definitely a good location. The apartment itself had everything we needed, but we did find a few problems: - the carpets could use a thorough cleaning and this should be done more regularly. The carpet in the bedroom with the King size bed needs to be replaced - it is worn out and sheds white hairs all over everything - silverware and utensils in the kitchen still had food crusted on it in some cases - the dryer downstairs does not work, it doesn't heat up - there is a broken window in the living room fixed with blue tape - seems like this could be fixed quite easily - the toilet in the bathroom off the living room would not stop running even when we tried to fix it so we had to switch off the water there to keep it from wasting too much water - there is no dead bolt on the front door, only a key lock on the door handle - would have been nice if there were some simple seats and/or table on the back "porch" off the smaller bedroomRecommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

I was so excited to get to this centrally located apartment for my business trip to DC. The apartment in this older building was large and the linens were provided. However, the woven rug in the living room was was coming apart and created a triping hazard. The couch in the lvingroom was stained but provded a "better than the floor" nights sleep until two very large roaches were noted to be running under the couch.I smashed one but the other got away. I immediately contacted the owner/maintenance guy to alert them to the bugs after a sleepless night on the couch (I took the couch since I was out early to the conference I was attending). I asked for the exterminator to come in and a cleaning lady showed up with a bottle of bug spray and a vaccum to suck up the dead bugs. There were dead roaches the next morning on the floor after another sleepless night on the couch. We decided to leave a night early due to the large roaches that ruined our stay. The owner/maintenance man told me that they would refund the night that we didn"t use but they never gave me a credit. NOT GOOD BUSINESS IN MY OPINION :(Did you find this review helpful? We were a party of three and the apartment was fantastic for us and in a great location for our week in Washington - far enough out to be away from any city noise but at the same time easily accessible by bus or Metro for anywhere we needed to be. The stay went without any issues - the key was waiting for us on our arrival and we didn't have any problems that we needed to contact the owners with. We were also very pleased with the welcome information we were sent and area recommendations. The apartment could do with a refresh of some of the paintwork / cracking plaster but this did not affect our experience overall. It was useful to have two bathrooms and the living area was fine. The kitchen also seemed well stocked, though we ate out during our stay as there are some good restaurants in the area including Red Rocks Pizza, Meridian Pint, and The Heights. The Columbia Heights Metro is only a five minute walk away and gets you into the City within 10-15 minutes which was fantastic. I would certainly stay here again and recommend this rental to others, though it's worth bearing in mind that there is no lift in the building and some steep steps up so perhaps not great for those with accessibility needs.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children.

Comfortably close to transportation, restaurants, shopping, groceries. Comfortable size, nice to return to after touring all day. Back door needs to be locked better. Comfortable for family of 5 with 3 teens. Offstreet parking small but worth it. Too many steps per youngest daughter.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

I just returned from a 5 night stay in DC where I attended an on-campus intensive for graduate school. I rented this apartment to share with 3 other students (2 male, 2 female total) and the unit was easily spacious enough for all of us. The master bedroom was much bigger than I expected, and the bathrooms were also of good size. The space was clean, and well cared for. Furnishings appeared to be from Ikea, but both beds were comfortable, and the fold out couch also recieved a thumbs up from the one of us who slept on it. The building was updated, and the neighborhood (while transitional) was pleasant. We used the metro or taxis for all our transportation, and felt completely comfortable walking around after hours. The supermarket was close by, and although we didn't use the kitchen for cooking, it was nice to have all the conveniences of home "just in case". In all, I would highly recommend this apartment. (the nearby "Heights" restaurant also serves some awesome mussels!!!)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The owners were very quick to respond to all our request and questions. The place was very clean and up to date. In a nice area with a large grocery store and shops/restaurants nearby. Felt safe in the area- as we traveled with 3 teenage girls and felt ok to allow them out and about on their own. A short walk (5-8 minutes) to the metro which made it easy to get everywhere. Would stay here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

The apartment was like our home away from home, located at the rear of the building which made it reasonably quiet. It was within 5 or 6 minutes walk to the local supermarket that had everything you could need. The Target store was also close by. The subway was also within easy walking distance making it a great way to get to all of the Museums and other tourist sites that were around Washington. Would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and I enjoyed this rental for 8 days on a sightseeing trip to DC. Overall we found the accommodations very well-suited to our needs. The key was available to us in a lockbox when we arrived. The building is an older three story apartment that was converted to condos, so sound-proofing is minimal and you can hear others at times. It was not a big problem for us. This particular unit on the second floor is in the back of the building and there is no view, it seems to formerly be two one bedroom one bath apartments, now a single two bedroom two bath unit, There is no elevator – no issue for us – but something to be aware of – there are also several steep steps leading up to the building front door . The building lobby is adequate but modest. The unit is clean and furnished with what appears to be inexpensive IKEA décor. Both beds were very comfortable – but little things like the 99 cent unlighted bedroom clocks detracted from a perfect experience. We also found that the iPod player did not work – and it was replaced in one day – by the owner’s helper (nephew ?) who stopped by the day after we arrived to check in on us. After he left I found that the replacement did not work either! There is one window (behind curtains in the living room) that was cracked and repaired with painters tape and two microwaves in the kitchen; the built in one that did not work and a replacement on the counter that did. That did not leave much available counter space – again not a big issue for us – as we just had breakfast in – but a detail that should be addressed. It is a 6 minute walk to the Columbia Heights Metro station – form there one can get to all the major DC attractions in 10 to 15 minutes. There is a large and well stocked grocery store, other retail and a few restaurants on the way to the metro which is handy. I would describe the neighborhood as diverse and transitional. It seems people are buying older somewhat distressed properties and investing in their restoration – many are nice - but it is still mixed. We did not feel unsafe in any way – but I do not think my wife would be comfortable walking to or from the metro after dark alone. In summary, this property is a good value for the money – with a lot going for it – and a few details that need attention.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children.

We were 2 adults and our 4 kids. We brought a queen blow up that just fit in the living room - one teen on the couch, one on the blow up and the 2 youngest (13 and 11) shared the 2nd bedroom. Kitchen is small but clean and functional. Plenty of towels and tp and paper towels. We never got to meet the owners but I sent a few emails that were promptly answered. The metro is about a 10 minute walk (its further than the 1 block that I think is mentioned). We got in late the first night and ran to the grocery store that was a bit scary to us at 11pm! We did the rest of our shopping at the Target. We did eat at the "brick oven" pizza place (on the high $ side but good) and Alero for Mexican (also good). For our family, this was much better than staying at a hotel. (we did miss a second TV as someone else metioned.) It is an older building, as stated, so just keep that in mind. We totally appreciated the off-street/gated parking area. Overall, we were very pleased with out stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.
