Designed and built by Sonoma County eclectic, Roger Bell, The Bell House brings a distinct postmodern architectural experience that is both imaginative and inviting.
This three-story, one-of-a-kind home is a symbol of creativity. Nestled amongst redwoods at the edges of industry, you will feel the lines blur between city living and inspired rustic beauty. In the heart of Petaluma’s historic Warehouse district you’ll find café’s, restaurants and yoga studio steps away, with the charm of downtown shops, cinemas and eateries just within a few block’s stroll.
Situated 35 miles north of the magnificent Golden Gate, The Bell House puts you within reach of wine country delights, the incredible Marin/Sonoma coastline and of course San Francisco to the south. Petaluma is a true treasure trove for the offbeat traveler seeking a unique and uncommon experience.

My family has stayed at the Bell House twice. Once for the engagement party and once for the wedding of our brother/son. The way the rooms are laid out is perfect for separation and privacy when travelling with extended family ;-) The room in the back allowed my mom her own space and separate bathroom. The room on the main floor allowed my sister, her husband and 2 year old son direct access to all the amenities (bathroom, kitchen, living room) and we stayed up in the birdhouse with the king sized bed - perfect for someone over 6' 2". The location is very convenient to the downtown, the highway and a local park. If we all come back to Petaluma area we will stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? The Bell House provided the perfect base for my family to discover the greater Petaluma area. The house is beautiful and unique: it combines quirky industrial details, a surprising floor plan and a lot of sunlight. The kitchen has a great stove and supplies a selection of spices. My wife enjoyed the detached one-room office (which feels a bit like a tree house get-a-way) for her writing. The backyard and porch are fabulous places to hang out and read. If you have small children, there is a playroom. The downstairs (third) bed room and (second) bathroom can only be accessed through an outside door. We were mildly concerned what the area would be like, since it is the industrial heart of Petaluma. There is a lot of residential development going on and the area is changing, but there is also still much industrial commotion. If you need absolute quiet, this might not be your place. But the activity did not bother us at all and the nights were very quiet. The excellent Luma cafe right next door is well worth a visit. We had a meal there right after arrival. On Sunday, bluegrass band played outside and we could hear their nice music through the open window. I also appreciated the excellent CD collection (which can be played on a high-quality stereo system that also has an mp3-player hookup) and the book library. The two bike cruzers were very useful to cycle to the downtown area in a few minutes. (Their wobbling tires could use some work but they were workable.) It was hard to finally say goodbye to the house and the area. We hope to be able to return some day.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

The Bell House is a fascinating architect designed home in a wonderful location. The information I was given pre-arrival was accurate and friendly. The house itelf took my breath away. Lots of interesting angles and design features but an overall warm and welcoming feel. The design makes the most of light and space. Petaluma itself is a great place and all the central restaurants and shops are within comfortable walking distance of this house. I based myself here for over two weeks and it was a great experience. I had access to San Francisco, Napa, Central Valley and Sacramento all for business. Some visitors suggested that this would not be quite as suitable for young children - stairs and angles surfaces. But for me it was perfect. Thankyou Bell House.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Group of 6 of us stayed here for my brother's birthday, did a day of wine tasting and a day of beer tasting. This house unequivocally made our trip better. Well kept, awesome architecture, great rooms and a fun old-school bell made this place a highlight. Being able to come back from a long day of sightseeing and relax in the living room, cook something tasty and enjoy the liquid purchases of the day was awesome. Add in the fireplace, the outdoor firepit and just the overall coolness of the property and long story short, I'd definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I rented this house not knowing what to expect. This three story house is really cool, unlike any house that I have ever stayed in. This house is in immaculate condition. Very modern with an abstract, artistic design. Lots of right angles, intersting constructed lights, with a strange, but really good vibe. The beds are supper comfortable. Cool backyard with fire pit. Great for relaxing and conversation. My only complaint would be that the house doesn't keep the noise out very well. There is an industrial area across the street that can get loud in the morning during the week...I didn't notice it during the weekend very much. I would definately recommend this house and will probably rent it in the future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I was in Petaluma recently for both a business trip and a wedding and came across the Bell House. All in all, our stay was great at this unique property which is modern with an interesting architecture and setting. The property was extremely clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the interesting storage and lighting and the "tree house" out back. In addition, the fire pit made for a great night time activity. I highly recommend the property to anyone visiting Petaluma. There is parking in the driveway and on the street, location is perfect and there is plenty of restaurants within the area. Also, the laundry on-site came in handy.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Everything about staying at the Bell House was as easy and fantastic as getting the latest electronic gizmo. Setting up time with the owner was so simple and easy - easier than booking a hotel. The location is convenient to everything. The house itself is great. The layout makes it easy to have an entertaining evening amongst friends/family with great open space. The backyard and the fire pit were really cool to sit around and chat. The only drawback is the bathrooms - they're a little tight (wouldn't necessarily call that a complaint), but everything is well taken care of and clean. It's also close to downtown Petaluma. You can take a 5-10 minute walk to town to get food. Though the restaurant next door is even pretty good. There's nothing to complain about at all! We're hoping to make at least 1-2 trips to the Bell House each year.Great for a weekend away from the city, girls getaway to wine country without the traffic, romantic getaways, and just seeing the sites of Northern California beyond San Francisco. It's a nice go between the coast and wine country. A really fun place to stay. I highly recommend it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
