This place is surreal. There is a trail if you follow the road up further with a wooden bear carved out that is one of the most incredible trails I have ever seen in my life. The views are incredible, the house was spotless and the owners were very responsive. Couldn't get the wireless internet to work but that's ok cause just being plugged in to check a couple things was all we needed. The hot water didn't stay hot for as long as we would have liked. Other than that, this place is absolutely incredible. We can't say enough about how absolutely stunning this entire place is. We created some of the best memories together because of this wonderful location. There is an additional trail straight up the mountain if you just walk straight up it's a little ways up there. Anyway, I cannot say more positively about everything about this place. We dragged the portable bed out to the deck to just lie and relax on one of the days and for awhile it felt like we were at the beach. Take the nicest parts of Canada and California, that's what this location, and especially the trail further up the road provides. Thank you again Nancy, Bill and Elaine ^_^.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We rented this home to spend Christmas with our son who is in the service. It was way more than you can imagine. The nicely laid out kitchen was perfect to make the Christmas dinner. The view of the mountains with our tree up in front of the picture windows was perfect, along with a nice cozy fire set the scene for the Holidays. One thing to please keep in mind, if you are renting in the winter months, please have chains. The road to the house is quiet the drive, like a road to the sky. The home is as advertised, you will find plenty of dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils. There is plenty of literature in the home on things you can do and see in the area no matter what time of year. The Elk are plentiful to see, be careful of the deer at night on Hwy 21, and just enjoy the views. Over-all we hope to go back some day and do it again, as my kids say, "this is best Christmas ever, lets do this every year". One more thing is we did not opt for the internet, and let me tell you, we brought our own games to play and the family time spent together was great without Facebook, Twitter, surfing the web, and even no texting on the cell phones was nice. A feature my husband loved not having, and it was amazing how everyone helped in the kitchen and how talkative our family is when they are actually paying attention. So much to tell about our great time here, but you will have to make you own memories if you visit this area and stay in this lovely home. Truly unforgettable, thank you very much.Recommended for: Age 55+.

My partner and I rented this outstanding home for 4 nights. We used it as a gathering place for our mid holiday trip to see our family in Boise. From the moment we pulled into the drive it was just amazing. We live in St. Louis , MO and do not have views like this any place close to us. The house was very clean and everything was set up for our arrival. I just stood in the entery hall and was amazed at the view from the 2 story windows in the living room. There are views from every room in this home. I was so comfortable for my family to get together for our holiday dinner and again the views can not be beat. Elaine and her husbanc Ted (caretakers) were great and we could not have asked for any better service than we recieved. We will be renting again on our next trip to Boise.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We loved the time we spent at your home in Wilderness Ranch. The scenery is beautiful! We were content to sit on your deck and watch the world pass by. We loved seeing the deer, etk, fox, wild turkeys and guinea hens - the wasps (docile as they are) not so much! The HOME is beautifully decorated, very clean and modern. The kitchen is to die for! A trip into Boise for dinner, watch the BSC play football or to catch a movie is very manageable. However, we always looked forward to leaving the city and heading back to our mountain retreat! We recommend this property without reservation. Allen & DebbieRecommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Just a note to let you know what a great time we had in your lovely home. It was so nice to arrive and find the only thing we needed to have a relaxed vacation was food. Elaine had told us there was an Albertson's on 21 so we stocked up on our first drive to your home. We took several scenic drives and toured the Birds of Prey Center which was so interesting. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony outside the master where we saw large herds of elk, a few deer and many birds. It is a secluded spot to read and sip coffee in the early morning. We highly recommend this home to anyone who wants a quiet getaway to a beautiful home and setting.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Dear Bill, unfortunately my vacation is over and I am back at home for 2 weeks now. My visit to the US was absolutely wonderful. I stayed in a condo in Granby, Colorado close to Rocky Mountain NP and explored the western part of the park for some days. Visiting friends in Missoula, floating the Clark Fork River and going on long and strenuous hikes in the area around this nice little town was the next highlight on my travels. I hiked in Glacier NP for four days without seeing the hair of a bear and went to the Sawtooth Mountains for more hikes and camping. This is my absolute favourite place. The beauty of it always brings tears to my eyes. Staying at your home was another great experience. I have a very stressful and demanding job and usually it is not easy for me to stay in one place, but after arriving at Golden Eagle 89 I decided to just stay there and enjoy it. The view is awesome - I spent many hours just watching the wildlife and the clouds and the light changing over the valley below. It was easy to forget about the stress and the problems at work. I loved cooking meals in your very well equipped kitchen, soaking in the tub with a view, listen to music, read and enjoy the feeling of being absolutely content and happy. I had friends from Boise over twice and they were equally awed by the beauty of your home and the view. Thank you very much for sharing your house with strangers and many thanks to Elaine for keeping it impeccably clean and welcoming. I know for sure that I will be back soon - I am already planning my vacation for next year and hope to be able to stay at Golden Eagle 89 for a few days again. I'd like to come there during winter time once, but I am a little afraid of driving up the road in snowy and icy conditons. I live in the Alps and am used to snow, but this road is really something. Thank you again for an unforgettable experience. very kind regards from Germany AndreaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I enjoyed five wonderful and relaxing days in your home. The house was so clean and had everything that we needed. My kids loved playing "Battleship" and we all enjoyed the breathtaking views. The house was perfect for our family of five. On our last night at the house, there was a wind storm that knocked out the power. The property managers came to check on us and brought us some candles and matches. They were so thoughtful. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting the Boise area.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We were fortunate to be able to spend 5 days in this lovely home and spectacular setting. I see that photos have been added since we made our reservations, but even so, the sheer beauty of the place can't be captured. The home is beautiful and comfortable and has every amenity you could possibly need. The kitchen is a joy in which to cook - we cooked "in" almost every night and had wonderful meals. Every utensil needed was at hand. We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace a couple of nights and barbecued steaks in the garage one evening - so nice to have the ability to do that. The maintenance of the home was excellent as well - thanks to the caretaker. We basked in the quiet and took great joy in sighting wildlife from the house and deck, as well as the road up. We saw deer, elk (lots of elk!), a fox and eagles. There was one clear night when we were able to see the stars, constellations and planets - breathtaking. We will be back. One caveat - they are not kidding when they say you need a 4-wheel drive vehicle, even when the weather is good. A small price to pay for such a wonderful place.Did you find this review helpful? My husband and I spend a week in Boise in June of 2011. We didn't want to stay in the city so we rented their home north of Boise. The minute we walked into the house we felt like we were at home, but with a better view and cleaner air. The photos do not even reflect half of the beauty from the home view. Their house is very clean and has everything you need if you decided to cook, but if you feel like eating out stop by Trudy's Kitchen restaurant in Idaho City for a great meal and excellent home made food, the best pie ever. We have vacationed in Europe and sunny resorts else where before, but so far this is our best vacation ever.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Can't even describe our joy at walking into your home at 1 am after a long day and flights. It was warm, welcoming, well-appointed and so clean. All the comforts of a nice resort without the peace of no one else around. We saw more elk than we can count, also coyotes, fox, birds of prey, etc. The star-viewing is awe-inspiring, and it's so quiet there, we were so grateful for the isolation. With family in Boise, we would definitely stay if we come again and have already recommended it to others. We even had the Boise peeps come out to the house for a lovely dinner cooked on your state-of-the art appliances. Well worth the drive.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: We're a Foreign Service family of five, having spent most of the last 20 years working and living overseas. But our favorite place in the world -- where we always come back between tours -- is beautiful Idaho. After many years of looking, we were finally able to find and buy our dream home outside of Boise in 2010. Unfortunately, we won't be able to live in Idaho full-time for a while, so in the meantime, the house will be available as a vacation rental. We're sure you'll enjoy it as much as we do! Bill and Nancy
Why the Owner Chose Boise:
The location just outside of Boise offers the perfect mix of wilderness and country living with close access to all the conveniences and amenities of one of the nicest and most liveable state capitals.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We and the kids love all the wonderful things there are to do here year-round, including swimming in the swimming hole in nearby Moore's Creek, tubing down the Boise River, white water rafting on the Payette River, boating at Lucky Peak Reservoir, snow skiing at Bogus Basin, hiking in the nearby mountains and taking day trips to nearby attractions like historic Idaho City. And when we need a taste of civilization, Boise is just a 40-minute drive away. If you like outdoor activities, wide open spaces and breath-taking scenery, you're going to love this part of the country as much as we do!
