Experience the loveliest times of the year in Gulf Gate, southern Sarasota: Fall and or Spring. Available April through mid-December, 2014, and from March, 2015. Your vacation home has a lanai (screened in) pool, which is heated and thus available year-round in the pleasant Florida climate. The house is newly furnished with contemporary furniture and art. Linens and all kitchen needs are provided. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and the en-suite bathroom has two walk-in closets. The second bedroom has twin beds and a roll-out trundle bed. The second bath is in the hallway between the bedrooms. The den is smallish, with a flex-sofa that converts to a full-size bed, with a door for privacy if needed for sleeping.
Just about everything is within walking or biking distance. The Gulf Gate community has been described as 'the gourmet center of south Sarasota' with many restaurants within two or three minutes walk (that's right: walk) from the house. Plus bakeries, hair salons, clothing shops, pubs, etc. Notable are Mak's Chinese restaurant, The Veg fish and vegetarian restaurant, Panificio's Italian restaurant and bakery, Thai Steak House, Randabi's Deli, and Opa-Opa Greek Restaurant. The community is mostly single-family homes and the people are very friendly.
We are two miles from Siesta Key, which has two outstanding public beaches with ample public parking, tennis courts, etc. Sarasota is also a center of entertainment and cultural events, with its own ballet, symphony orchestra, opera company, and world-class museum. Osalo Theater provides both continuing and repertory stage performances. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Center brings world-renown presentations to downtown Sarasota, just 15 minutes away. There are numerous festivals throughout the year: Sarasota International Movie Festival, June Music Festival, etc. There are such culturally interesting activities as International dancing, chalk-art competitions, art exhibition openings, wild animal parks, and auto museums. The Baltimore Orioles have spring training locally in March.
Four minutes' walk from the house is Gulf Gate Shopping Center, with a Publix supermarket, major chain stores, and restaurants. Public golf courses are nearby, as are tennis courts, Mayakka State Park, boat rentals, tours, and hiking. It is near churches and synagogues, and the Gulf Gate Library is nearby, in the Sarasota Square Mall.
This Property is currently available Off-Season, and we have accordingly set comfortable rates. Note: During May through December, the minimum rental is two weeks. During the season (January through April) is is one month.
There is a $500 security deposit required at the time of the lease, (refundable if cancellation occurs 45 days before lease period) A cleaning fee upon leaving is partially paid by owners; excess charges are paid by tenants.

I rented this wonderful Gulf Gate home for a family reunion. Everyone was very happy with this home. We enjoyed the pool and the location, it is close to Siesta Key and shopping and restaurants. The home was very clean, very spacious and uncluttered, nicely furnished and set up very well. We spent a great deal of time in the, private, screen-enclosed pool and lanai area. And the screening was so welcome - both for keeping the pool clean and for keeping bugs away while dining outside. The house was very clean and has nice contemporary furnishings. They even have bikes to ride to the beach. The owners are very accommodating and look forward to returning to this home soon.

We stayed at this home the entire month of February of 2013. We were very happy with the location because it was very close to Siesta Key Beach as well as several restaurants and shopping choices. The owners were very attentive and kind people. The house itself was found to be just as listed. The pool was nice and we found the house to be very clean and well maintained. The pool service arrived each week and did not disturb us in any way. We were interested in renting again this year, however, it was unavailable for the time we wanted. I must add the owner provided newspaper delivery everyday which we felt a nice touch.

Home away from home!
Home away from home!
I cannot say enough good things about this property or about the people that own it! My best friend and I have been staying here for the past 3 years and we look forward to it every year! The home is clean, modern, and comfortable, and we feel right at home while we are there. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and the open kitchen,living room, and dining room are very comfortable. And of course the relaxing pool tops it off! The house is in a quaint, quiet neighborhood that is close to everything! My friend and I frequent the Gulf Gate area (so cute!) for breakfast every morning at Word of Mouth, another great, neighborhood place. The house is also less than 10 minutes from the Siesta Key beach and downtown Siesta key village. It is also only 15 minutes from downtown Sarasota. I always feel so relaxed and peaceful when we come and stay here...it is definitely a home away from home. The people that own the house are so nice, friendly and accommodating. They have made great recommendations for restaurants and attractions nearby, have helped with directions, and have made the entire process easy, which is exactly what I look for in a vacation. It is why my friend and I continue to come back, year after year, when we could easily go someplace else. It is the vacation dream!!:)

Unlike prior reviews of 2011 & 12, the owners have not upkept this home. BUGS! Outside, cockroaches by pool we saw scurry under dinette area at night- we let the owners know and they had an exterminator come, but also said they had not done it for nearly TWO years... normal is 6 months! (I have their email) Also, FLEAS inside, since there was a dog just prior to our stay- with the dog hair all over the couch... bad cleaners.... also long dark hairs and red fuzz (for some reason) all over linens, incl the bed, when we pulled the covers back it was right on the bottom sheet. Gross. We had to take time to change the entire bed, also because they had a plastic, "crunchy" mattress pad on it- like for wetness. Uggh! This hair and lint was also on bathroom towels, rugs, flooring, and furniture that just kept showing up...incl on a worn brown towel as I dried my face--YUK. As we arrived at the house, there were 2 overflowing garbages plus bags on the ground that got torn open by animals. Nice welcome! There is/was only one cabinet to put food, and below it was the indoor garbage container and the insect repellent plugged into wall flashing all the time- this was also just by the dinette... quite unpleasant. The pool itself was nice but the surround and furniture was dated and unkept- cig butts, leafs, webs, more bugs.... not like it looks on photo-AT ALL. Dog barked every single night for about an hour next door. Garage was loaded with junk and we could not park and no place to really put the stuff without a lot of effort- yet the owner said that was what we should have done. Plus, the owners had just stayed there a month prior to our arrival and knew about all this stuff. They had doggie mats and the place smelled like a dog the moment we walked in. Weird layout. Yes, you can walk to a very nice grocery store, but the shopping/dining area is dated and run-down, with lots of places for lease- unpleasant. There was a plumber there the day before we arrived - you can't use the disposal then. PLUSES: location is central, large living room, nice little den/office, and the pool itself was nice, also landscaping. All of this IS a true and non-exaggerated experience. They let us out of our one month lease early it was so bad, so that was nice. Of course, the owner will likely retort, but if you don't believe us, then you may not enjoy it as much as the owners claim it to be. Good luck- our's was not. FIND ANOTHER PLACE.

Owner response: We take pride in our home. The furnishings are new, the television, radio, art work and kitchen utensils are excellent. We have a respected cleaning company clean the house thoroughly between tenants. No other tenants have indicated any problems with the state of the house. These tenants were unhappy with our house from the moment they walked in, so much so that we offered to refund their money on day three of their stay. They stayed until the 17th of the month, then left because they were so unsatisfied. We tried to respond to their issues, and since we couldn't, we did refund half a month's rent. Tenants subsequent to them--in February and March, 2013--enjoyed the house and their time there, as have all other tenants. Naturally, we were sorry for their dissatisfaction, some of which was, in my opinion, very exaggerated.
We spent a month in this home and everything was perfect. It was exceptionally clean, beautifully decorated and very spacious. The owners were very accommodating and wondereful to work with. The home was in a great location, being within walking distance to many restaurants and malls, but still very quiet at the home. Being only 3 miles from Siesta Key Beach, we rode bicycles there (which were provided), thereby avoiding the backup of traffic going to the beach. The pool was perfect temperature and well maintained. We spent many hours relaxing by the pool, grilling out and eating on the deck under the lanai. This was truly our home away from home and would highly recommend it!

Bright and beautiful family home in a convenient location
We are a retired Irish/Canadian couple. We thoroughly enjoyed our one month stay on Colonial Drive. It is in an ideal location. There is a shopping centre nearby for all needs with a top class cafe and the Siesta Key beach is just a short drive. The home was clean,spacious,well appointed with stunning artwork on every wall. We loved those walk-in closets & the luxurious ensuite bathroom. The kitchen was large with all that we required and more. The bedrooms were big and very comfortable.We had lots of living space. We had an internet connection, great TV reception,a telephone and we even had a daily newspaper delivered. Most evenings we relaxed in the lanai by the lighted and heated pool. We enjoyed the privacy, the quietness and the fruit trees. We found the owners to be most attentive and helpful. There was a letter of welcome with instructions,tips and suggestions. The pool & garden maintenance people came and went without intrusion. We were very comfortable on Colonial Drive. We had a wonderful February in Florida.

About the owner: We are both retired (a professor and public school teacher) and wanted to divide our time between Sarasota, with its pleasant life-style, and our children and grandchildren in Maryland & New York. We enjoy reading--mostly mysteries, nights out, folk dancing, dining, and our friends. We are quite active, and try to exercise daily.
Why the Owner Chose Gulf Gate:
The house with its rather large pool was quite inviting, and the community of mostly individual houses was appealing. We have found the neighbors very friendly, and we like that there are young families as well as retirees around us. Of course, having 20 miles of beach along the Gulf of Mexico helps, as does the proximity to shops, malls, and downtown Sarasota.
