Feeds the soul and belly's; relaxing.
Feeds the soul and belly's; relaxing.
Relaxed environment that makes you glad to put down the electronic devices and soak in the peace and calm. The innkeeper is up daily at 5a.m. baking the breads (scones, bread, cinnamon rolls, donut balls, pies) for the day. The Sheepscot room overlooks the river and has a private bath with a shower and 2 claw foot tubs. If you are fortunate enough to be there for a dinner, you will indulge in homemade cooking while delighting in great conversation and uninhibited laughter. Antiques galore fill up every are of the house. Well worth a stop in at the ice cream parlor, but try to spend a night to get the full effect. Hope to return many more times in the future!

About the owner: Joan Thompson was born in Belfast, Maine. Graduate of University of Southern Maine. Registered Nurse by vocation. Innkeeper by avocation. Daughter Christabelle lives in Palm Beach Gardens Florida with husband and son. Son Nate lives in Kennebunk, Maine with wife. Joan has a 'bakery' on the garden level of the cottage where she makes scones every morning. With a kitchen garden by the front porch and the family garden in the back and a root cellar to fill, she stays busy. She lives in paradise. 'Living in Sheepscot Village is like living in Brigadoon! You know the real world is only 5 miles away but you can pretend to be living in another century when life was about the art of every day living!'
Why the Owner Chose Alna:
Husband Bill Thompson, former resident architect of Colonial Williamsburg wanted to remain the Historic Sheepscot Village.
The Unique Benefits at this Bed And Breakfast:
'That was an experience!' is the most heard phrase after staying as an overnight guest, a group lunch reservation, or even Afternoon Tea. A house tour finds you a vast collection of antiques that hark back to 1900's when the art of living took up all energy and time. From the antique cookstove, icebox, pie safes, and sink to the cash register, post office and general store collections.....every corner boasts an era gone by. The chickens in the backyard live in the Coop de Ville! The kitchen garden lining the softly curved brick walk into the cottage and the backyard vegetable garden. Homemade jam, eggs from the coop, Joan's homemade bread....breakfast doesn't get any better! Nearby Wiscasset with antiques stores will keep you shopping for days. Joan can recommend any one of many daytrips down peninsulas of Midcoast Maine. The Pemaquid Lighthouse on the Maine quarter, the Maine Botanical Gardens are a must see,....conservation trails, kyaking, even a trip to Freeport for the outlet shopping is enough to keep any and all busy. Rent Sheepscot River Suite at Wabi Sabi Cottage and have exclusive access to Joan's 'girl cave' to enjoy a cup of tea and nap on the bed outside!
