Enjoyed touring the area the Mayan Ruins, Cockscomb Jaguar preserve, and close proximity to excellent restaurants . The staff was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed waking up in the morning and looking out on to the ocean. Then having coffee and breakfast on the oceanfront patio. A very quiet location. extremely clean, i plan on returning next Fall for a longer period of time.

... perfect spot !
Thank you so much for the house. Hopkins is such an amazing little village and made the perfect spot for our family vacation. We went hiking through the jungle, snorkelling out in the reef, kayaking, and tubing on the river and just longed about on the beach. A few more high lights included Driftwood pizza and Chef Robs, both highly recommended. What a great places. Thanks again.

Loved the house!
Loved the house, it was absolutely gorgeous though we ran into problems with locks and flying ants in the downstairs twin bed room. Anthony took care of everything though. The view is stunning and we enjoyed every minute of it. owners note: we have full time staff and address any issues as soon as we are notified. Ants; yep we live in a jungle country. And spray for ants and bugs while the residence is empty.

16 Thumbs Up for Habaru House!
16 Thumbs Up for Habaru House!
Our family of 8 just returned from Hopkins. Everything was awesome - just as indicated on the listing and all the reviews listed. The house is beautiful - the pictures do not do it justice! The beach, approx 50' from the back door, was very quiet and peaceful. There were only a couple days during our 10 day stay that we saw someone else walking along the beach. The caretakers (more on them in a moment) raked the beach when it was needed, which was about every other day. Our visit was during their "rainy season" which probably equated to more stuff washing up on the beach, but it was never an eyesore or unpleasant. The beach/water was beautiful - shallow, sandy bottom for approximately 100 yards in the water. We especially enjoyed Maya, the wonderful neighborhood dog that likes to fetch coconuts thrown in the water! The caretakers Anthony & Gil, no other description other than awesome! They were around the property each day to take care of any issues we may have had. You will quickly learn that they are very trustworthy and friendly. For example, our daughter had a bag that did not make it on our flight into Belize City. Long story short, later that evening guess who knocked on our door with her bag - Anthony! He got the call from the airline, dropped whatever he was doing & met up with a taxi to pick up her bag. Gil was just as friendly and happy to help with anything. The only thing that was an issue was the golf cart. The 6 pass cart died on us a couple of times. A 2nd cart was given to us, but do not rely on the them to be a reliable source of transportation. These carts are built for a golf course, not Hopkin's roads. Activities our family loved were beachcoming, scuba diving & snorkling was beautiful - Hamansi was awesome to work with. The zipline (short drive) was another awesome experience! Food - groceries were surprisingly expensive. If eating out I would recommend Chef Rob's, Baracuda Grill (a short stroll down the beach), Belizean Dreams & Diversity Cafe. We highly recommend Belizean Dreams and Chef Robs for a Gluten Free meal without any concerns at all. Before our trip, we were in contact quite often with the property manager, Mr. Barber. He promptly answered all of our questions and provided a LOT of very valuable information to help ease any apprehensions that we had. I would highly recommend using Mr. Barber for any vacation to Hopkins! Overall, we give Habaru House 16 thumbs up! We all would go back in a heartbeat!

The house was beautiful, and we enjoyed being right on the beach. This was one of our most relaxing trips ever. The water was warm, the kayaks were great, and Anthony and his wife were truly a blessing. We would definitely recommend staying at the Habaru House and look forward to making the trip again in the future. Chef Rob's, Barracuda Bar & Grill, and Driftwood Beach Bar & Pizza Shack were some of our favorite restaurants. If you have the chance, you simply must have Anthony's wife cook for you. She makes authentic Belizean food. The stewed chicken, homemade tortillas, and beans were wonderful! Thanks for the opportunity to share your house!

May 30, 2013 Dan and Cindy Grand Rapids, Michigan We truly enjoyed our stay here in Hopkins. We kayaked on the Sittee River one day and saw all sorts of cool wildlife including parrots, iguanas, and coatimundi. The food at Barracudas and the dive resort was wonderful. We had a great Belizean meal at Innies also. Anthony and his family were helpful. We look forward to coming back.

May 13, 2013 Dan & Dani Boerne. TX. Had a great week @ Hopkins. The house is better than advertised – totally met all expectations. Monday we drove down from Belize City nice drive, lots to see. Ate at Hot Rocks, very unique and delicious. Tuesday we took it easy, switched rentals cars-(do not rec. Thrifty) and went to jam night at Driftwood pizza – listened to a garifuna drum group. Wednesday – Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve, Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit (Maya), ate at Innies – woke up at 3 violently ill. Thursday – snorkelling on the reef – no wind, flat water & unlimited visibility. In a word – perfection. Visited south water caye on the way home. Dinner with Chef Rob- excellent! Friday – drove to Placencia for a look –nice area – best gelato in Belize at Tutti Fruiti afternoon beach & belikan. Oh yeah! FYI- Placencia has an awesome grocery store. We had dinner at The Barracuda- very good. Try the Cuban bean nachos. Saturday – drove to Mayflower Park and hiked the Antelope Falls trail. It’s very beautiful with waterfall forming a natural swimming pool at the very top. Beware it is fairly strenuous – good shoes and water are a most. Don’t forget your camera and bugs spray. Come home and swam / snorkelled in the water near the house – so tired we went no farther than Barracuda again. Sunday – Biking, swimming, relaxing, trying to figure out how not to go home. Monday –back to Belize City to fly home. Great week .hope to return Anyone driving from Hopkins to the highway….beware of the Sittee River road much better –ever partially paved. Thanks to Gil, Tony & Dana – you guys rock!!!!!!

The house is nice and right on the beach which was very convenient...this was the best part about the area. It is not so close to the town but, the golf cart made it easier however it did break down three times. The basement tenant/caretaker had just moved out the day we arrived and from previous reviews we understood he was very helpful. There were two young men (Antony & Gilbert) that did ground work at the house - clean beach (sort of - they tossed just as much back in the water as they hauled off), rake the sand, etc. but they had no knowledge of how to repair a toilet and we had two go down in the house while we were there. My husband ended up repairing one so we had one working on the main floor. There were other choices to repair the toilet - the one in the empty basement space could have been used or as my husband did use parts of the two broken ones to fix one but, nothing was done and no compensation was offered. For the most part the house was what we expected but, for the price repairs should be done sooner. I understand this is a third world country (we have visited Belize several times and understand the Belizean/Caribbean time - go slow) but, the price was first world and if you are going to charge this then first world expectations should be there. The dogs that hung out at the house were very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed them all. Doug our email contact for the house was apologetic for the toilets and said he gave them instruction about toilet repairs/guests needs for the future. We gave the average score for the reasons listed above.

Owner response: Yes the toilet broke, and parts were not readily available in the Village. We now carry a complete set of replacement parts on site for toilet repair. The golf carts were problematic and have been discontinued, bicycles are now included in the 2013-14 season rentals. We strive to make are guests vacation as carefree as possible.

About the owner: Saltwater fly fishing was the addiction that brought my family to Hopkins, Belize but it was the laid back atmosphere and warm, friendly people of Hopkins that made our decision to build a home an easy one.
Why the Owner Chose Hopkins:
Hopkins was a natural choice for me. The flats are a quick panga ride away and the local restaurants are just down the beach. If you are looking for a relaxed, laid back town, Hopkins fits the bill perfectly.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Habaru House is set on a double lot for added privacy. The huge back deck is a perfect place for your morning coffee or gather with family and friends as you gaze over the Caribbean Sea. Many mornings you will find flocks of Green Parrots in the tree surrounding the house.
