This was our first time to Oahu and we had a great time! This condo is situated on the 5th floor overlooking the surf beach of Makaha! The views were awesome, we were serenaded by crashing waves and really enjoyed watching the locals taking advantage of the continual waves that crash along this area. It is among the locals which we found to be very helpful for any questions that we had. It is away from the bustling city of Honalulu and Waikii area which we did not go to. We have two boys ages 8 & 11 and the surf during our stay was big, we never felt concerned with under tow or wave action, we boogie boarded at several spots! The accommodations sleep 3 comfortably, but we did squeeze 4 in without and problems. The condo was well appointed for our needs as we didn't spend much time there, the heated pool was a welcome sight at the end of our day enjoying the island! We would stay here again without hesitation!

This is a corner unit which allows an excellent vantage point for viewing the beach & surfers from sunrise to sunset. We loved the location away from the crowds of Wiakiki, however if you are looking for everything walking distance & close, this is not for you. While we found the unit had everything we needed and was very comfortable, if you are looking for a fancy resort, again this is not for you. If you are looking for a place to relax and simply enjoy, you will love it. We loved being with the locals and found them to be indifferent or friendly to us. We would certainly come back and recommend this unit to others.

Well I am writing my review while I am still on vacation. It's raining today, so thought it would be a prefect time to write about this great rental. We have stayed on Makaha surfing beach four times before this. We love the area, because it is quiet and the beaches are beautiful. We live a busy life and do not want to go on vacation to be even busier. The condo building is small and everyone in here has been very friendly. Has a nice pool and BBQ area. This condo Is a corner unit, so great view down the beach and all across the ocean. We could just sit on the large lanai all day and watch the whales and surfers. The unit is large and has everything you could possibly need...even an espresso machine. I will absolutely return to this rental. Bob has been great with answering questions prior to my arrival and has a beautiful place here. I know a lot of people worry about coming to the local side, but we have never had a bad experience. You respect them, they respect you. Love, love, love it. Thank you!

We travel to the islands every few weeks and love the amenities this place has to offer. This was a great find! Stayed here because our timeshare was completely booked and was pleasantly surprised. We were literally on the beach with amazing views. Makaha is one of the best snorkeling spots on Oahu. We swam out to the bouy (where others pay for tours to go) and saw plenty of fish and turtles. In fact the next couple days the turtles were close to shore and in the waves. The drive is long for those not familiar with the island or those looking to have all their fun in Waikiki. Also as far as complaints about the area or locals- nobody bothers you, everyone's very pleasant, and not every part of Hawaii is meant to be a resort. This is a town you will be in "the country" as some of the locals call it. We will definitely reccomend this to friends and family as well as stay again if my timeshare isn't available.

If you are looking for a posh resort that caters to your every need then this is not the place for you. If you want to expiercence the real Oahu in a clean condo with the best views on the island and away from the tourist this is the perfect location. We were mainly looking for a place to act as a starting point for our daily excursions but found that we spent a lot of time on the beach right out front. We visited the entire island and found the best places right where we were staying. If you visit in the spring this is a must stay, it rained on most of the island the week we were here but around Makaha beach we received little of the rainfall, it was a perfert oasis. There is a monk seal "Benny" that dropped by the beach twice and lots of sea turtles and fish just yards off shore. The sound of the ocean through the screen doors at night gave us a restfull sleep and watching the early morning surfers catch waves while we sipped our coffee on the lanai started each day on a perfect note. The unit had everything we needed, I recommend getting some 100% Kona coffee beans for the expresso maker. Many thanks to the owner and I hope it is available for our next visit.

One picture is worth a thousand words...and this picture is exactly the view when the northwest swell was pumping during our stay. We kept both sliding glass doors open all day and night and went to sleep with crashing waves. This 5th floor unit gives an awesome 270 degree view that can't be beat! Surfing with the locals was a challenge but most were gracious and sharing (avoid late afternoon surfing with high school drop-in crowd). Makaha had the best surf with a point break and long rights that I didn't find anywhere else on the entire island. Stand-up paddle boarders dominated and rode the 15 ft. waves breaking a quarter mile out. Unit was exactly as depicted and met our needs perfectly! Manager (Kat) was hospitable and great resource for local knowledge. Recommend this unit to all!!!!

My wife and I have just spent another week at the Makaha Surf Condo during our Hawaii vacation. We also stayed at Waikiki. This apartment is in a building called Makaha Shores and is in our opinion the best located vacation rental along the entire west side of the island. It is a great experience and very different from Waikiki. If you want to experience local Hawaii without the tourists Makaha is the place to be. Just going shopping at the nearby supermarket is an experience in itself. The west side of Oahu is predominantly Polynesian and you are likely to be the only haoles (the local non-derogatory term for Caucasians) in the store. Everyone is very friendly and remarkably polite (at least compared to Australian shoppers). This is the second time we have stayed at this spacious apartment. The view from the balcony overlooking everything from the green Makaha valley, the beach, the Makaha surf break and the sunset into the Pacific Ocean has to be seen to be believed. My wife and I both thought that it felt like being on an ocean liner since the building is right on the water’s edge. We could whale watch and look for turtles from the balcony. Being on the leeward side of the island Makaha is very sunny and dry and the beach is beautiful. I am a surfer and I had plenty of excellent waves right there at the world-famous Makaha surf break. I found the local surfers in the water relaxed and friendly. My wife also enjoyed the heated swimming pool. The apartment is well equipped so we didn’t need to bring a lot. It had everything we needed including beach towels, beach chairs and an umbrella to take to the beach. It had good wireless internet connection and an ipod dock plus HD cable TV and DVDs which we never found the time to watch. If you like clean sandy beaches, sunny weather and don’t mind being away from the tourist jungle then I highly recommend this apartment. We will return again next year. We have looked at other apartments in the building but this is the best we have seen by far.
