WHEN GUESTS drive down our road and take in the view they all exclaim, 'Wow!' When they open the front door and enter our home they all exclaim, 'Wow'!
In Glendree we found a peaceful and picturesque location, and working with an existing traditional house and farm buildings we extended, restored and renovated to create our dream family home centred around a huge, open-plan room with a grand design. A room in a home to share, full of light and warmth, beauty and comfort, and interesting things reflecting our own interests and travels.
When we’re home we like to spend some of our time with family and friends – walking, talking, cooking, dining,touring and exploring, and other times quietly reading, listening to music and watching movies in comfort . . . and our high spec cook’s kitchen, big tables, wall of books, fireplaces, superior underfloor heating system, wifi internet, several ipod docking stations, and sofa and reclining chairs in front of the big screen . . . all help!
Our home really is the best of the old and the new. A complete renovation of the main house was undertaken in 2008, the conversion and connection of the old dairy in 2009 and, adding charm and character, the original 300 year old cottage stands proudly next to the old piggery and coach house ... unrestored ... our next projects!
The property sits peacefully in idyllic, Irish countryside, halfway up the mountain side of Slieve Aughty and overlooking the valley to the Slieve Bearna mountain range. The view is stunning - green, rolling hills, hedge lined lanes and fields, and old stone walls and cottages – all made for quiet, contemplative walking or if you feel like it - more active hiking, cycling, fishing, biking and exploring. It is all here!
Our home was designed to bring the best of the outside inside. A run of French doors open onto an elegant and large terrace which wraps around the living areas and provides an ideal area to quietly gaze at the view, sit by the firepit or BBQ and entertain. From this terrace you can hear the fall of our stream only 50 yards away, and on a clear night the Milky Way can be viewed arcing across the sky. Our large, south-facing conservatory is full of healthy plants and houses our favorite overstuffed sofa in which to recline with wine or a book, and is also set up for sunny, picturesque dining. Large expanses of double glazing and multiple skylights throughout the house all serve to capture the view, solar heat and light - all bringing the best of the outside inside.
We find many of our guests, despite the best touring plans and our proximity to major tourist attractions, simply relax and stay close, enjoying our home and close environs ...as we do whenever we can.

We are back home and settled after an amazing trip. We had never visited Ireland before and our family feels like we found a place in heaven staying in your home. I have 2 teenagers, and an 11 and 10 year old, and they were all as enthralled as my husband and I. In fact, it was an effort to get them to want to leave to explore other sites once we landed..... We are very grateful for the memories and the time spent at Glendree. Although we did not get to meet you, I feel as though I got to know you a bit from chatting with Bernie. She was wonderful and could not have made us feel more welcomed. And as a side note, I love Modigliani, and have a piece hanging in my bathroom. I felt right at home. The pictures and description of this home are lovely, but what they cannot capture is the charm of Ireland, or of Glendree itself, or of its people. From Bernie, who greeted us with coffee and cookies, to the home itself which allowed us to relax after a long flight. Then there was Trix who allowed my daughter to ride a horse while she and I chatted comfortably. There is something magical about this home and its location. It is perfectly located for traveling both locally and nationally to beautiful attractions. But is it also quietly nestled in a remote spot perfect for relaxation. Do not hesitate to rent this home. Out family of nine, including four members over 70, had a great time in this beautiful house. The setting was stunning and close to the village (Feakle) where three family members' grandfather was born. It was wonderful to come home to the house and relax after a long day of touring the area--our destinations included the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Galway, Clonmacnoise and Portumna, and Dingle. The house is quite large and we were able to fit with room to spare. The kitchen was well appointed and we used it for breakfasts and some dinners. Dealing with the owner, Fran, and her local caretaker, Bernie, was terrific. We all had a super time! If you go, definitely check out the Irish music sessions at Peppers, a local pub in Feakle. The owner will even come and pick up your party in his van to transport you to and from the pub.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

My husband, baby and I stayed at Fran's house last summer for almost 2 months. The house is amazing. Warm, comfortable and with beautiful views that we still talk about and dream about. The kitchen was fantastic to cook in, especially after a trip to one of the many farmer's markets around. We often took walks on the roads behind the house and fed the horses we met along the way. The sun room is perfect for reading and afternoon naps. Her friends that helped us get acclimated were wonderful. Everyone in the neighborhood is lovely. We can't wait to return to the house one day for another vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We just returned from a wonderful week in this comfortable, warm, clean and inviting home. From the modern conveniences of the bathrooms, kitchens, appliances to the comfortable furniture and beautiful artwork, not to mention the magnificent views, this house couldn't have been a better choice for our week of touring West Ireland. Fran was wonderful to correspond with, and her friends in the area were most accommodating and helpful. We are two sisters with husbands and we loved our morning walks around the "neighborhood", especially when the local dogs would join us on our adventure. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My sisters and I just spent nine wonderful nights in Fran's truly beautiful home and I don't know where to begin to explain how perfect it was in every way. As much as we loved touring around County Clare , Galway, Limerick and Mayo on our day trips, each one of us said "it's good to be home" when we arrived back to the house at night. Fran has two wonderful friends who looked after all our needs and a neighbor who also does massages! We were in heaven! A beautiful and peaceful location, but within easy reach of surrounding villages and towns. The house itself is welcoming, light and spacious due particularly to the open plan design of the main living area. The kitchen provides lots of scope for cooking and entertaining, and there are eating areas outside weather permitting! We also made use of the friendly local pub where you can eat outside and enjoy more views. We enjoyed exploring the stunning countryside and all the historical, often ancient. landmarks. We had a real sense of the history of Ireland and how it was shaped. This is a a great location for families to be able to relax and absorb all the local sights and culture. "Our family was blown away by this beautiful contemporary Irish home .The home was so country and comfortable , we extended our stay .To be in such a modern home, looking across an ancient countryside was the Ireland we wanted to live .We had days of rest ,tucked away in the tranquil countrysde and then times we engaged beggining with just 3klms away to a wonderful , talented and funfilled pubs around the district. Our Family visited many local attractions in a relaxed time and distance from the home . The local town of Feakle was filled with great pubs and even greater people. .The new photos on the web are very accurate and worthy of the home. The gourmet kitchen was a highlight and the open plan was a pleasure to live in. We have been suggesting to all our friends to book with us on our next trip and would highly recommend this property only to people with impeccable taste and a desire to experience one of this Irish districts, truly amazing homes ." About the owner: We are all Australian born and having lived, worked and studied in several different countries we always found ourselves coming back to Ireland, particularly County Clare which we found authentically beautiful. Our ancestors had originally emigrated from here and we had lots of friends through traditional music, an interest fostered by grandparents. When it came time for our children to enter secondary schooling, we decided County Clare was 'it' - here, in the 'land of saints and scholars' they could have a rural freedom and rigorous education all in the context of a rich cultural heritage and picturesque surroundings. What had been a holiday home for us became our permanent family home. The family is now grown and while we are all, once again, travelling for work . . . this remains our home, heart and hearth.

Only 30 mins drive to Shannon Airport ... and it is beautiful ... on the mountainside between the villages of Tulla and Feakle and ...
10 mins to the village of Tulla, home of the famous Tulla Ceili Band where you will find . . .
a well stocked supermarket with fresh crusty bread baked throughout the day and a decent selection of wines, Flappers award winning restaurant, your choice of half a dozen traditional Irish pubs, an ATM and bank and a Saturday morning Farmers Market in the old Courthouse.
10 minutes in the other direction to Feakle, you will find Peppers Pub with traditional Irish music sessions every Wednesday and Sunday nights, and Shorts (Lena's) Bar with the longest running session in Ireland – every Thursday night for 37 years! Great craic.
