My husband and I were married on Kauai the week before our arrival, and stayed inland in the country and were looking forward to the oceanfront home. We were not disappointed. We stayed from 10/8/11-10/16/11. Linda met us there and showed us around. She was very friendly and helpful! The home had everything we needed and more. The ocean waves crashing were music to our ears after a long day of hiking, and the jacuzzi was very nice to have for sore muscles and aching feet. Very quiet, private and relaxing. The beds were very comfortable. We slept with the screen doors open each night and enjoyed the breeze and ocean. The tide was higher while we were there, so the beach was not accessible directly in front, but we actually preferred this and just walked a few houses down and saw turtles, snorkeled, or drove a mile down the road. There are beaches everywhere! (Lanikai beach, on the southeast shore was gorgeous...our favorite!) We didn't spend much time on the upper deck, although it does have a pretty good view (has a pull down ladder in the patio, and I am not a fan of heights). The kitchen was spacious, with lots of counter space, clean and had more supplies than I do at home. The screened in porch was lovely, we spent a lot of time there in the morning having coffee or in the evening at the end of our day. The living room had comfortable couches and chairs, extra blankets and cable TV. We did not spend too much time here, as we were out and about most of the day. DO read some of the guest books...there are some great suggestions in there. The laundry room was huge and a huge welcome convenience after our humid week in Kauai, where we had limited hours for laundry. This was also stocked with snorkel gear, a few beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, cooler and more than enough beach towels....pretty much all you would need for a day at the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for making the rest of our honeymoon so wonderful, inviting and comfortable. The only thing I would really complain about was the musty smell throughout the house. More so as you moved towards the back of the home (bedrooms). I assume this is from when the home is closed up after use, since it is near water etc. There was an exhaust fan in the living room, which we turned on and it did clear up some after the home was opened, but does not go away entirely. All in all, I would stay here again. Julie & Tony De Rigo

Mahalo for sharing your lovely home! Two families coming together to cure a little cabin fever (from Cleveland, Ohio to Eagle River, Alaska). Your piece of paradise did just the trick. Our first morning greeted us with whales breaching on the horizon and turtles snacking just beyond the sea wall. The kids – ages 13, 11, 11 and 9 – had a wonderful time looking for geckos, body surfing, snorkeling, and playing football in the sand. Nuis Thai Food truck across from the old sugar mill provided several delicious meals along with several “shrimp truck” visits. The surf changed daily and gave us huge breakers and calm waters for a variety of activities. Haliewa Ali Park provided great “boogie-boarding” and lots of turtles playing along the rocks (20 in one count). Hang loose and enjoy! Thank you guys

Evening breeze, pushed by the moon’s glow; Beautifully landscaped, is this home. Filled with laughter, clothed with cheer; Happiness has brought us all here. Breathtaking sunrises, sunsets so serene; You have to be here, to know what I mean. The sun’s gentle slow, kisses white capped waves Seaweed foods turtles, the food that they crave. 10 women first strangers, when this journey begins; Each gives a treasure, the gift of new found friends. Thanks so much for the use of your home. We loved the beds! They were so comfortable. It is amazing that you can be on the N. Shore, which has the feel of Kauai, then go to Waikiki, which is like Las Vegas on the beach. We found a great place for surfing lessons in Waikiki… Beats any other on the island. It is Faith Surf School run by Tony Moniz (famous big wave surfer) and his wife Tammy. They worked the whole family and got great photos of us all. They are at the Marriott. The shave ice recommendation for Motsomotos was right on. Mmmmm. If you want to see turtles on the beach go to (get this) Turtle Beach, it was true to its name and we saw whales outside the reef. We took a drive to the west shore and found a great beach with great waves and sun!!! It is called Makaha Beach. Great right break and beautiful blue water. We also loved using the kayaks and checking out the turtles out back. Mahalo

Our family had an absolutely wonderful time in Oahu! We had 3 houses in a row for a family reunion. We loved staying in both of your homes. They are both outstanding and beautiful. The kids loved the spa and outside shower. Everyone enjoyed the kayaks, seeing the turtles in the morning started our days perfectly! Thanks for providing them. Here are some activities we loved: snorkeling was amazing at Sharks Cove, Pearl Harbor tour, Polynesian Cultural Center (especially the night show), Shark Encounter, and our top favorite was skydiving and seeing the parachutes in the front yard. The caretaker was great to work with. We appreciate the help!!! Hope to stay again soon! PS. Our 20 month old learned how to say “shave ice!” We love Aokis, it’s the best!

Thank you for the use of your lovely home. Our family really had a grand time. We felt so comfortable and relaxed. The weather was gorgeous and in the mornings the beach was so nice. The Jacuzzi was a hit with everyone. We had a fun time walking along the shore all the way to the Polo field and went to watch a polo match on Sunday. I would recommend this place for families with children. The screen room was our best times for meals. The caretaker was so helpful and so was her husband. Mahalo from a local resident!

Mahalo for letting us stay in your beautiful home/paradise! We don’t want to leave! Our favorite was the hike to Keana Point right by the house at Sunset. Breathtaking! We also loved sunset whale watching on an intimate catamaran leaving from Haleiwa – saw 20+ whiles and they were jumping! The coolest experience of our trip! We couldn’t beat coming home to your beautiful home to watch the sunset, kayak, sit in the hot tub… the perfect vacation! We enjoyed the expanse of beach to ourselves. What a change from Waikiki. We cooked most of our meals here. I really appreciate the quality cookware! Again, mahalo for allowing us a glimpse into your paradise here at Honu Hale! We hope to come back and visit in the future! This trip brought us all together. Hopefully the turtles will be here again too – what a treat! The geckos near the laundry room were a lot of fun for the kids.

We found the location and general condition of the property, and neighboring, properties much as described. However, on the third (3rd) day of our seven (7) day stay we discovered mice in the house, which essentially we had to contend with by ourselves. Upon contacting the property manager, we were told the exterminating company said there was nothing they could do except to set traps. They didn't even come out. Subsequently, the property manager brought over and set three (3) traps, a package of cheese, and two packages of D-Con cubes. During the remainder of our stay, we (five ladies) ended up chasing one mouse from the kitchen, through the family/living room, through sliding glass doors into the screened atrium, and finally, outside. Then, later that day, upon our return from an outing, we found a dead mouse trapped in the kitchen alongside the refrigerator. We again put in call to the property manager requesting more traps to which she never responded or called back. I found this disappointing. On Sunday, our final full day in the house, another mouse was spotted in the laundry room. Pros *House setting, furniture, televisions, general conveniences, various water gear all as represented **Hot Tub was cleaned and well maintained *Ocean views were fantastic *Grounds and exterior were well maintained *Guests or residents of neighborning properties very nice Cons *Mattresses/some pillows significantly stained - (Had to spray with Lysol to disinfect and then cover) *Residual foodstuffs and crumbs in lower kitchen cabinets (hence, mice) - cabinets, particular lower ones, need thorough cleaning *Window coverings needed in select rooms and connecting shower; window and sliding glass doors facing backyard/ocean are clear see- through glass; (people renting from or dwelling in neighboring/adjoining properties have common access to seawall ladder on Hono Hale I property leading directly down into water and can see directly into main suites and shower) *Screen door locks rusted - unable to secure; laundry room doors also don't lock *Besides water activity, there's little to do or see in the immediate area In closing, may I say our vacation was most enjoyable except for the circumstances described above. Unfortunately, we were unable to fully enjoy the house as planned. However, the only needed is time and attention. It has all the makings of a lovely rental property and should be cared for as such.

I have lived in Hawaii for five years now, but this has definitely been one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had on the island. The house is a little out of the way from the busy surf scene in Haleiwa, adding to its appeal for me. I live in downtown Honolulu, so getting a reprieve from the city traffic was greatly appreciated. I never get tired of looking out to the ocean and seeing so many stars. I loved unwinding in the hot tub and basking in the stars and full moon. I definitely recommend any local cuisine. The shrimp trucks are great and there’s a ton of delicious hole-in-the-wall spots in Haleiwa. For a great time, I highly recommend visiting Pearl Harbor around noon/lunchtime for a minimal wait time. The Polynesian Cultural Center is an excellent way to spend a day. It’s interactive and fun, teaching you a ton about Polynesian Islands. Plus if you do the luau, you won’t be disappointed. They’ve got firedancers, lots of hula, and the food is FANTASTIC! It’s one of the best local food luau’s on the island. Diamond Head and La’ie are great places to hike. Take lots of water and wear good shoes. Most of all I encourage you to enjoy the house itself. A huge part of Hawaiian lifestyle is just hanging loose and relaxing. This house is your opportunity to get away from things for a while… enjoy it. Don’t underestimate hanging out at the house, soaking up some sun, and taking a dip in the ocean. PS. Say hello to the turtles for us! Watching the whales was awesome!
