Everything was as promised, comfortable and clean and fabulous views. There are a lot of stairs, so consider that if you have any trouble climbing, and the driveway is very steep so we preferred to park at the bottom and do those steps too. Would definitely rent here again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Pros: good location, average cost, fantastic view Cons: a bit worn, loft stairs probably do not meet code and quite honestly would be terrifying to navigate after a couple of beers on a dark night, bbq did not work and was advised by Owner it would take until Oct to fix...it is a bbq, the burner is probably corroded and it would take 1/2hr to fix, street light shines into main bedroom window, dishwasher soap dispenser is broken, you have to make your own bed when you arrive...and empty the dishwasher (after 10 years of twice year rentals in Hood River and the Oregeon coast this was a first), stairs were long after a day on the water.....but that comes with the territory. This is definitely not a property for anyone with mobility challenges! General comments: we were on the coast to kitesurf, windsurf and SUP. Oceanside is a good location as a base (you travel north and south for wind) and have been a number of times before (actually Netarts), house is conviently located but more worn than most we have rented, it really is a cabin/beach house compared to many other nicer properties on the coast, bathroom layout could be a problem if you had a lot of people, loft stairs don't meet code, kitchen appliances and hardware are old and worn, pantry supplies are essentially non existent, furnishings are fair, view is fantastic. Oceanside was, as always, quiet. Next trip will probably stay at Manzanita, services are better and it is also a very pretty town, even though not quite so scenic...it is also often windier for anyone that cares.Owner response: To my future renters: I feel I needed to address this post as the owner of the Edelweiss we try to accommodate all of our guests and keep our rental house to the highest standards which include cleanliness, attention to details, comfort and safety. Whew we had a busy season, this means our house was booked solid from June through September and most weekends on the other months. With all this said, it is always a challenge to maintain a property with heavy seasonal use and make sure things are running smoothly. It requires good communication from our cleaning staff and guests. We live in another town and sometimes our guests don't let us know if a need is required. To resolve and clarify the posting of concerns from this guest we have commented on the following: Street light- Oceanside is a small town with not much lighting we pay for the street light on our 1/3 acre property to help with guests being able to see at night going up and down stairs and to provide a safe environment. We have replaced the master bedroom blinds since this posting and feel that a minimal amount of light enters the bedroom at night. BBQ-Everything at the beach rusts! We were able to replace the entire BBQ, but it did take us a bit of time to load the large item and install it at the location. Works fine, just had some wonderful BBQ steal head on the grill last week. Loft stairs: Whatever code was required when the house was built in the 70's sufficed for the stairs, yes they are steep, but we installed a stair railing and would hope the guests not be intoxicated to the point that they could not go up or down. The house meets all the county rental requirements and was inspected for this certification. Dishwasher: Soap dispenser works fine, I went to stay and found one of the guests had taken out the bottom rack of the dishwasher and installed it backwards. I finally figured it out and turned it around. When it was in backwards it didn't allow the function of the soap dish to open. Works fine. Appliances: Microwave is new, Toaster is new, Oven is 6 years old, but in perfect working order, large oven, with warming drawer and 4 flat burners. The fridge is the oldest appliance but works perfect so no need to replace it at this point. Beds: We have the guests make their own beds as it is impossible to monitor linens. This way we know they are clean and folded in the drawers and ready for our guests to enjoy a comfortable nights sleep. Michelle

When we arrived at Edelweiss we thought OMG how could this be. This great place so close to the water and all ours for the week. It is exactly how we saw it on the web site and more. The cabin was clean and fresh. The boys could not get up the stairs fast enough to check out the loft, then quickly change to get down to the ocean. The home was so warm and the scenery inviting. Every window you look out of you saw the beautiful ocean. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and the beds were great for a good nights sleep. We even lit a fire on 2 nights as the evening air got a little cool. The town folks were friendly and the coffee and lunch at Rosanne's was yummy. We walked the coast to Netarts to see seals sunning themselves in the bay. The boys tried crabbing in Netarts bay and they caught more then their share of females. Overall it was fantastic and we can't wait to return. Thanks MichelleRecommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

Our family visited this wonderful house for my husband's birthday and what a fantastic week it was! The home was so clean, fully stocked, and the views were breathtaking. The town was quiet and friendly and there were so many things to do and see within a short drive. Tillamook is just minutes away for everything we would need, so we got the quiet retreat feel at the house with nearby conveniences. Our kids loved the loft and the hammock, but we spent a lot of time down at the beach and exploring nearby. Sand dollars galore!! The tunnel to the tidepools at Maxwell Point was wonderful and a lot of fun. We could have sat on the beach all day and been completely content. We would definitely come back for another trip -- and hope to!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I can't say enough good comments about this place. First of all, the beach house was great. Michelle was great to work with - very quick to respond when we had questions. The house had everything we needed and was quite comfortable. The views from the house are wonderful. A note - this wouldn't be a good place for someone who has trouble with stairs. There are several stairs into the home, but also a steep set of stairs to the loft. It would make me nervous with toddlers. Our family was fine though. And Oceanside - wow. I think it must be one of Oregon's best kept secrets. It is a little way off the 101, so it didn't have all the crowds and tourism that so many of the other coastal cities had when we visited them. If you want quiet, no crowds, and a beautiful place to visit, this is the place to be. We had dinner at Rosannas too - it was great. The service was fine for us - we went twice. Tillamook is a short drive away (I love their ice cream!). Cape Mears, with a light house, is just a short drive north (a few miles) and very pretty. My favorite part was the beach through the tunnel at the north end of the beach. We didn't see all the starfish (we must have missed the right timing) but I got amazing sunset photos, and there is a whole different view once you get on the other side of that tunnel. We had a very relaxing trip, and we will definitely come back here again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

The house was perfect for us, a family of four. We were within 5 minutes walk to the sand. The views from the house make the walk across the street worth it. There was city sewer work happening below us for 3 mornings out of the week. This was annoying, but didn't let it ruin our vacation. Oceanside was wonderful if you are looking for a quiet, lazy beach vacation. We had dinner at Roseanna's Cafe- very good, great desserts, but could have used friendlier service. We loved the lack of commercialism, compared to other beach towns we saw north of there. The best activity we did was going out past the tunnel at low tide to see the starfish and anenomes. This was amazing and so much better than an aquarium for us land dwellers from Colorado! The property was well equipped. Lots of stairs, so we did get our exercise too. We would love to have had binoculars to use, and ended up buying some for ourselves. We definitely recommend this rental and would stay there again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

First and foremost, there is no way to capture the breathtaking view in a photograph. Every hour of the day, you can view 180 degrees of seascape -- punctuated by the Three Arch Rocks -- right from the sofa in the living room. Getting to the beach is easier if you walk about a half block down the street to steps next to Roseanna's Cafe (one of two restaurants here, the other is Brewin' in the Wind across the street -- we enjoyed both, and the corkage is $8). For those who are able to climb around rocks a little, you should venture through the tunnel at the north end of the beach and pass through to a private beach on the other side. Charming little town! About the cottage: it is such a perfect place to relax, read, nap and prepare wonderful meals -- the kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans & cooking utensils, full-size fridge and oven, and there's a large gas grill on the deck. It was quite chilly in the morning (in late July), so we took our coffee (standard drip coffeemaker) slowly with a beautiful fire in the living room in front of the wood stove. There were just two of us, but there was plenty of room for 6-8 people. One bedroom off the kitchen has a queen-sized bed and an adjoining bathroom. Upstairs, there is a loft with a queen futon and another bedroom with two double beds. The bathtub/shower is in its own room between two half baths downstairs. With a dishwasher, microwave, washer & dryer, you really have everything you need. If you want to get out of paradise for a little while, there are two fun activities right in Tillamook -- the Blue Heron for wine-tasting (5 wines for $5), cheese-tasting and sampling a variety of other things. Just a bit further down the road is the famous Tillamook Cheese Factory, which is fun and a self-guided tour means you move along at your own pace. The ice cream is very nice, too, and I highly recommend the rootbeer float. You can do both of these things within an hour or two. One day, we drove up to Cannon Beach, which is about an hour or so, but just an amazingly beautiful drive along the coast. In Cannon beach, there was a fresh market where we purchased fresh cheese, Chinook salmon, fingerling potatoes, tomatoes and fresh bread for dinner back at Edelweiss. There's a great wine store there called the Wine Shack, just next to the theatre. Adorable little town. Also if you take the road that runs up beside the cottage, you will quickly come to a beautiful hiking trail and a lighthouse. In a word, HEAVEN!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We had a terrific time at this lovely little beach house. Everything we needed was provided and the views from the house and the wrap around deck were great. There were 6 of us. 4 adults and two teenagers. We all had a terrific time. The driveway is a bit steep with a lot of stairs. This wasn't a problem for our group, but might be hard for little children and older individuals. Also, the stairs to the loft were steep and not very wide. However, not a problem for our group. The main floor had the master and the bathroom and kitchen and living area. The beach was lovely, with lots of sand and tide pools on the other side of the tunnel. The owner, Michelle, was very responsive and a delight to work with. We hope to come back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: I was fortunate to grow up in the nearby community of Tillamook. My grandfather came from Switzerland in the early 1900's and founded one of the dairy farms in the area which my family still owns. I spent many days lounging on the beaches of Oceanside while I was growing up. My dream was to come back and purchase a home at the beach to feel young again. You will be mesmerized by the beauty of this coastal town. I know the history and area very well and love to share information and my chalet with guests. The photo is me in Switzerland last year where Grandpa was born.
Why the Owner Chose Oceanside:
I chose this beautiful property because I believe Oceanside Oregon is truly one of the most beautiful places in the world.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
My husband I and family love the drive down Hwy 6 to the town of Oceanside along the Wilson River from Portland. Many waterfalls and scenic spots. We settle in unpack and the magic takes over. You pretty much forget the rest of your other world. I love to cook so we venture to the locale fish markets and purchase crab, clams, and fish and really have a feast. I love sitting on the deck watching the boats, whales, sea lions, surfers while soaking up some sun.
