Alta Sierra Kamala Kabin - Your Home Away from Home.
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Alta Sierra Kamala Kabin is just steps from the Sequoia National Forest. The temperature is pleasant in the summer and cold in the winter - there is usually enough snow for sledding. The wrap-around deck is perfect for relaxing as you look right out into the trees (not the trunks!) Watch the sun stream through the trees in the morning and look at the stars at night. Whether you want to relax, feed the blue jays with peanuts we provide, watch movies, play Wii, or hike, boat, fish, and raft, this is your location. In winter, sled and tube at the Alta Sierra Ski and Tubing Park in nearby Shirley Meadows. This quiet, small mountain community is close to the Kern County Desert, the historic town of Kernville, Isabella Lake, and the Trail of 100 Giants. You can be busy every minute, or do nothing but relax. We can accommodate 6 per current Kern County zoning regulations.
Amenities: : You'll be surprised at the well-equipped kitchen - it's just as good as home. We have a milkshake maker, Cuisinart Griddler and Panini Press, Coffee and Espresso maker, blender, smoothie maker - whatever you want! If you don't want to cook, walk to the Greenhorn Grill Thursdays through Sunday, or drive down to Kernville for a burger at Cheryl's Cafe or a fine Italian dinner. It's up to you! We have a toy chest with toddler toys, and extra hats and gloves for winter (we ask that you leave them if you use them). Two wide-screen televisions - one in the living room and one in bedroom four, both with DVDs, let parents watch something different than the kids! We can accommodate 6 per current Kern County zoning regulations.
Why the Owner Chose Alta Sierra: : My husband and I were always trying to figure out how to go live close to nature but at the same time be available for our kids, grand kids, and our aging parents. Then it hit us - buy a vacation cabin close to home so we can get away with our entire family to enjoy nature. You know what people say about some places - like Bakersfield where we live? It's close to everything - beach, big city, mountains, desert. That's why we chose Alta Sierra - because it is so conveniently located to our home in Bakersfield, as well as Isabella Lake where people love to fish, boat, jet ski, etc. It's just 1 1/2 from our house but at 6,200 ft. elevation. And it's minutes from Shirley Meadows where in winter we can ski, tube, and snowboard. The kids love walking out the door of the cabin to sled. I can take day trips to the desert - places like Red Rock Canyon State Park, Fossil Falls or the the Trail of 100 Giants (giant sequoia trees), or I can just sit on the balcony and watch the birds.
Continued Why the Owner Chose Alta Sierra:: Personally, that's my favorite thing to do - relax outdoors. I even plug my laptop in on the balcony so I can work out there. Best of all, it's a small mountain community that has not been commercialized. We get snow in winter, cooler temps in summer - the best of all worlds. We have the occasional 'problems' that come from being in the forest. Sometimes the television or wireless goes out, or even the electricity (that only happened once - on our moving in weekend!) - but it hardly ever happens. It can be hard to park in winter. But that's all part of the experience of getting out of town and into nature and the forest. Going into our third year, we are so glad we purchased a cabin in Alta Sierra.

We have just left Kamala Kabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was an oasis from all the outdoor activities that we did. It was great to be out of the heat and into the relaxing coolness of the cabin in about 20 minutes. Thank you Susan for sharing your lovely cabin with us. My extended family had a wonderful stay! We hope to be back again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Mark and Susan, Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of the earth; the best of both worlds - luxury camping at its finest. My favorite spot is the deck of course. Jonny Jay and I became good friends. What an exquisite joy to watch the grandkids cavort through the woods, paint birdhouses; they wanted to hang them on your deck, then decided it was a better idea to take them home; build a teepee, jet ski, discover the Trail of 100 Giants, and simply listen to the sounds of nature. As my grandkids and adult kids read every photo caption as well as carefully studying each jigsaw puzzle, we had great conversations about places, animals and people. The dinner at the Greenhorn Grill is also appreciated; your welcome basket is a delightful addition. Kamala really is a big slice of paradise and so close to Bakersfield. Thank you for letting us stay in your gorgeous cabin. We enjoyed looking at all the interior decor and traveling the world through the photo gallery. Jojo enjoyed exploring the woods behind the cabin and feeding the blue jays peanuts each morning. We had a blast walking the Trail of 100 Giants, jet skiing at Lake Isabella, and splashing in the water at Kern River Park. Your hospitality is very much appreciated. What a wonderful place to stay. Our family enjoyed our first vacation in one and one half years. What a breath of fresh air to stay here, literally. We enjoyed living in the trees and feeding the blue jays and watching some movies and of course finding some pine cones. We live in Los Angeles and it is wonderful not to have to drive too far to get a little bit of peace and quiet. Love the wind whipping through the trees. Ahh, we hope to be back. Thanks for sharing your home with us. It was perfect. Oh, and we enjoyed our walk to the Greenhorn Grill for dinner, awesome. Thanks, and many blessingsDid you find this review helpful? Hi Susan, Thank you. We very much enjoyed our stay at your cabin. The place was very clean and comfortable. The attention to detail and the love you have for your cabin home did not go unnoticed. It seems that you truly want your guests to be comfortable and have a wonderful experience and we certainly did. If I vacation again in the area I would certainly want to stay there again. And thank you for the gift card to the Greenhorn Grill. We ate there one evening and had a good experience. Best, JoeDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thanks again for letting our family stay at your beautiful cabin. We wanted to see snow again but not our luck this year. It's nice to have fresh air once a year. We will be back next year hopefully to find snow and have a white Christmas. Thanks again for a wonderful time at your place - our "home away from home."Did you find this review helpful? What a wonderful birthday weekend at the cabin. Yay! No snow to speak of but the weather is just perfect. I enjoyed the meteor shower this morning seeing more than 25 falling stars in 45 minutes. Incredible luck to be here for the Lyrid showers. Steve & I enjoyed sitting on the balcony, reading, doing a puzzle and dining at the Greenhorn Grill. I think it's safe to say we will both be back soon. PS We did not know it was "bacon weekend" up here. Hehehe - we ate bacon with every meal!Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: I'm a retired seventh-grade language arts teacher, and now I work as a photographer and artist. (In fact, all the photographs at Kamala are my work.) My husband is semi-retired - he's tried it a few times but keeps going back to work. We've been married 41 years, so we must have done something right. We've got three daughters who have three children each, making nine grandchildren. But our daughter who lives in Colorado has number ten on the way! We're lucky - six of the grandkids live within a mile of us, and my sister, her kids and their families live in Bakersfield also. My parents are still alive, at 92 and 87, and are also here, so life is busy all the time.
