We came from Norway and fell in love with the place. We have built a home for us and our friends with our standard for cleanliness and comfort. The house is made to live in, to enjoy and to relax. So is the garden with avocado trees, banana trees and flowers and a big barbecue. It is also a nice house for children.
The apartment is nice and easy to live in. You will feel at ease, comfortable and unstressed.
Cruze is our groundskeeper, and looks after the house and the garden. He speaks Spanish and is our wonderful helper.
Maria comes once a week to clean the house the towels and the bedclothes. She also speaks Spanish.
If you want some to cook for you, we can recommend another Maria to you, we also can give you telephone numbers to our other good helpers, as the fish dealer (coming one day a week if you ask him) a nice taxi driver. Just ask.
Our good friend who runs:” Los Elementos Adventure Center” can help you plan your holiday activities before you arrive. He can also offer help in arranging transportation from the airport and if you want, arrange someone to meet you in Panajachel for grocery shopping prior to traveling to the house.
You get more information when you contact us. Please remember the time difference when you wait for our reply. (N Y time + 6 hours).
The house is on the lake, and perfect for swimming. A nice path with cobblestone leads to the dock where you can get the boat to Panajachel or other small towns around the lake. Just at the dock you also find some hotels, a place to do yoga, to get massage, a center for high altitude deep diving, a Spanish school, internet café and a little shop. From there you can also take a pickup to the village, or you can walk. In the opposite direction you find a Yoga center, a little further on an Ecohotel, high standard.
You can take many beautiful walks. You can hire a kayak; you can hire a boat with a boatman and make a tour on the lake. You can take a high altitude deep diving certificate, use the place as a center for your exploring of the nearby villages, climb the volcanoes or just relax. All the time you are in this beautiful scenery and the very nice climate.

We stayed in the top floor apartment of this comfortable house. The owners are very responsive and attentive to one's needs and the apartment is quite livable and well designed. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds comfortable and the view is gorgeous. Santa Cruz is a friendly, safe and interesting place with lots to do. We recommend this rental highly.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My friend & I spent a week here in October. It is even more beautiful than the description & the pictures. The place is very well maintained, very clean, everything you need for comfort. Cruz is around if you need him, doesn't bother you if you don't. The owner was responsive to all my questions & very easy to work with. The fresh fish we bought was great. We enjoyed not hearing any car noise...it is just so peaceful. Very close to the lake with lovely views of the lake & volcanoes. And magnificent flowers all around the lawn, totally fenced in with a locking gate, so very secure, not that I think that is ever a problem here. We enjoyed the walk up to the village of Santa Cruz, though steep, good exercise (there are tuk-tuks if you prefer), & loved visiting with the librarian (they could use some more Spanish books if you have any) & at the CEPAC school. We brought most of our groceries with us, but were able to pick up a few fruits & veggies at the little tiendas in the village. We also met wonderful people at the Iguana Pérdida hotel nearby. We took a private launch to get there, due to carrying the groceries,the captain carried my supplies up for us; other than that we used the public ones. My friend loved kayaking on the lake. I enjoyed a book, in English, that the owners had in their library. I have previously stayed in San Pedro & San Marcos, but this is by far the most peaceful of the villages. From here you can also walk over to the Villa Sumaya yoga retreat, arrange with them to have a meal there...awesome! I have been going to Guatemala for 10 years now, mostly to either the capital or Antigua. After starting to spend some of my time at the lake for relaxation, it makes my trip so much more special. And finding this place makes it perfect! I certainly hope to go back next year. My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week spent at this amazing home. It has all modern amenities with a wonderful kitchen that is well stocked. Very large and clean bathroom that has modern septic system as well. Very comfortable home over all and a very nice balcony with amazing view of Lake. Beautiful Garden with huge avocado trees are a big plus! We made many nice meals with the avocadoes! Place is a bit difficult to find because there are no addresses but ask locals and they can point you there. Be sure to eat at Jacaranda Bistro, the closest and only restaurant to the house. He can tell you how to find the house as well.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We highly recommend this rental based on our visit. The house is new and all the furnishing are new and are of first-class quality. The owners put a lot of attention to details that make a big different in this rental. Access to the lake is easy and the views are outstanding. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, and has lots of privacy. The gardens and the yard are perfect for families with young children. We relaxed into the slow pace of life so quickly, and had the best nights sleep in years.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

About the owner: We have had our vacation in St. Cruz every year since 1999, and build our house in 2008. We live in Norway and spend 3 months in the upper apartment every year. We rent out the bottom-apartment the whole year, see the description above.

Short way to the lake. There is no roads, so you have to walk all the time. I hike to the Maya village is a good exercise and a great experience. The Maya people in the village are very friendly.
