We couldn't possibly have had a better time or been more comfortable. Five adults and one dog with loads of room to spare. This home is lovely, gracious, comfortable and very private, and extremely large, plus conveniently close to main roads and Silver Lake. Working with the owner was a breeze, and he was amazingly accomodating of our last minute travel plans. We were so thankful to have spent a long, but quiet weekend here with our family. Everyone in the family commented on how comfortable the beds were, which is rare when you travel! Also, we frequently rent homes when we travel and this house was the cleanest we have ever had. In fact the housekeeper met me here and reviewed everything with me to ensure that we had a great time. I would highly recommend this most comfortable home.Did you find this review helpful? The cabin is absolutely gorgeous. The floors are heated slate, the master bathroom has glorious shower, there is even a washer and dryer. My friends and I needed a place for us all to spend New Years together and were lucky enough to stay here. Larry is a very gracious host and even built us a fire in the fire pit outside before he left! I would recommend this place to everyone. There is a general store nearby and the woods around it are fun to explore.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We (my husband, three kids, and mother/father-in-laws) stayed at this home in winter/spring 2011 and had an amazing time. The home is warm, clean and inviting and the website pictures did not do the place justice. It is gorgeous. There was the perfect amount of heat - despite the cold rainy weather outside - and plenty of hot water for warm baths or showers for the kids after skiing. The location is great for visits to Woodstock as well as trips to Killington. It is a very central location but still secluded and quaint. The owner was welcoming and very kind. The kids enjoyed visiting with him when we arrived as well as when he arranged to come by and see how we were doing! I would recommend this home to families or couples.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers.

Stayed at this beautiful cabin will a group of 11 adults and had an AMAZING time. The cabin is fairly new, and beautifuly constructed. We felt very at home in this open layout home with four separate bedrooms. Waking up every morning in the room with all the windows was like a dream. Each room has very nice linens, mattresses, and pillows that are all provided at no extra cost. There is a beautiful claw foot bathtub in the bathroom on the ground floor, and an amazing shower upstairs. The photos of this house don’t do it justice. It is so beautiful, well decorated, and just has an overall sense of feeling cozy. There are loads of windows bringing in lots of natural light, and a panoramic view of the snow and woods surrounding the house. Our group went skiing a few of the days we were here in Okemo, which was about a 50 minute scenic drive away. There are a few other ski resorts that are closer if you don’t want to drive that far, but really it was a nice drive. On the way to the resort we saw people cross country skiing, snow mobiling, snowshoeing, and sledding, that were all close by the house. The house is located in Barnard, which is very small, and the house is very secluded, giving you tons of privacy. The town of Woodstock is very close, and a perfect afternoon trip. The owner of the house is very accomodating and helpful. He welcomed us with freshly baked cookies, and was always ready to answer our questions. I would highly recommend staying in this house for a week, or a long weekend. Our group had a great time relaxing in the living room, hiking through the woods, and cooking meals in the well equipped kitchen.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Great place! You can find almost everything you may come up with, full kitchen, huge dinning room, nice living area, and huge bedroom and study room, even with laundry. The upstairs master bedroom has spectacular view, so does the huge study room on the first floor. My party enjoyed the time, and definitely find a chance to come back next autumn for the foliage season.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We were had a three generation holiday retreat here. House was bright, warm and secure in the brief blizzard we endured. Well equipped kitchen made for happy holiday meals. Would comfortably sleep six adults and various children, or eight adults, a few more in a pinch. Photos don't do the interior justice... warmer and more cozy than it appears. Lovely area. Good winter sports within easy striking distance. Friendly local store and restaurant just up the road in town. We would love to go back to this house for another vacation. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family stayed in this beautiful home the last week of August. My son, daughter in law, infant grandson & dog. It was magnificent! Lovely light, architect designed: slate floors with radiant heat on first floor. Original wood floors on second. Breathtaking natural wood banister, master bath with multiple shower heads, large windows and glass doors open to beautiful views of mountains, gardens and stone patio. All amenities: dishwasher, washer dryer, iron, internet. Bucolic setting- lovely town with amazing country store serving gourmet natural foods. Private, relaxing house & area yet close to Woodstock activities restaurants shops and skiing. Will definitely return. Highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

About the owner: Hi, I'm Larry. My friends call me 'Cisco'. That's Woofy with me in the photo. He really runs the show around here. I run a small company which provides consulting services on large construction projects in New England and throughout the mid-Atlantic region. I designed and built this house myself, from locally harvested renewable/sustainable materials with the intent of creating a warm and beautiful space with a reduced carbon footprint.
Why the Owner Chose Barnard:
Twin Farms (stay there if you prefer to spend $3,000 to $5,000 a night for a place almost as nice as mine!) and Silver Lake State Park attest to the allure of this place.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Something about this place restores my creative energy and zest for life. Sinclair Lewis, Dorothy Thompson, and German playwright Carl Zuckmayer all discovered this long before I did. From the comments of several of my guests, I know that it has had the same effect on others. I invite you to try it for yourself!
