Seaside, the only town named on both Frommer’s list of Top 12 Destinations of the World for 2010 and Travel+Leisure Magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Trips.
Share a truly memorable experience in this character filled and yet highly practical Seaside home, which boasts flexible accommodations for as few as two to as many as sixteen people by adding and subtracting bedrooms (and pricing). Natchez House combines high-brow Charleston style with informal gulf coast vernacular to create a rejuvenating and yet relaxing escape from the daily grind. Whether a family on vacation, a couple on a private getaway, a group on a gig (Arrowsmith stayed here) or a company or group on conference retreat, Natchez is the perfect destination. Directly across from the Westside Pool Natchez has a large outdoor table (seats 18), which begs families or groups to have long lingering dinners or stimulating conference discussions in the fresh air. This cottage, furnished head to toe with antiques, has a living room with flat screen TV, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, hall bath and queen bedroom with private bath on the first floor. The second floor has a bedroom with a queen bed and private bath, a bedroom with three twin beds and a bedroom with a set of bunk beds that share a full bath. The furnished open porches are shared with the rest of the complex (see below) and provide great places to rest, catch up, cocktails, meet casual passersby, and take in the sunset.
Connected by full length double decker porches are additional bedrooms and living space, Oak Creek Annie, which is surmounted by the 3rd-story 'cat-bird' bedroom, High Rustler. Bedrooms can be added or deleted for flexible renting and pricing to accommodate everyone from a single person or couple, to a large group, wedding party, company retreat, or extended family get together. The furnished open porches can be shared by the whole complex or used privately by each bedroom guest.
The rich decor of Oakcreek Annie's speaks of rustic times and folklore. The first floor has a queen bedroom with private bath and jacuzzi tub. The second floor is where you'll find the living area with flat screen TV, kitchenette, a double bed loft with star gazing skylight, and a full bath.
High Rustler, a third floor walk-up, is a unique Seaside experience with a small but cozy one bedroom and bath. There's a fireplace, flat screen TV and efficiency amenities which include a coffee maker nestled in a corner. This cottage offers a queen bed and the bath is shower only. What it lacks in elbow room, it more than makes up for in an unobstructed view of the Gulf! The crash of waves on the beach drowns out downtown gaiety while lulling one to sound and relaxing sleep - bathing one in a truly refreshing and intimate experience.

Oh my goodness! We loved it! Thank you so much for the privilege of staying in your wonderful Seaside home. It was perfect for our family. The cousins had a week of bonding they'll never forget, I'm sure, and the adults enjoyed the beach in the day, the restaurants at night and the house to come home to. We grilled out and spent lots of mornings drinking coffee on the porch just relaxing and planning our days. For our family it was just the right amount of space and the layout matched up with our children. I'd love to bring my side of the family perhaps next summer. Mark and I could see ourselves living on the beach one day and reminiscing about our time there.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful time. The house, as you know, is great. We have stayed in many cottages which we have liked, but yours is so unique, which is much appreciated. We have talked with several couples about making a trip to Seaside sometime and Natchez would really be perfect for multiple couples, with the guesthouses, etc. We really would love to return at some point.Did you find this review helpful? We had a delightful visit at your Seaside House last week - weather was beautiful and the fellowship sweet with our Mother/Daughter Trip. There were 3 of us older sisters and all of our daughters, 1 daughter-in-law and 1 granddaughter. It was perfect for our family - we used all of the big house and the Tower Bedroom.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I'm a former Town Architect of Seaside, I've stayed in Oak Creek Annie, High Rustler and the main house, and I think they're all among the best at Seaside, with excellent design and very pleasant decor and decoration. High Rustler is small but ingeniously designed, with a great view from the balcony and the lowest price in town. Oak Creek Annie is a two-story unit that's also very well designed, with beautiful paneling and a bed nook at the top of a ladder. The main house has a comfortable and beautiful Great Room and kitchen that can be used with the whole house or just the ground floor with the master bedroom and bath.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

Hi Robert & Carol, Just want to let you know how much we enjoyed our 'ladies getaway' at Natchez house! The weather was cold, but your warm and charming cottage more than made up for it. Thanks again for everything. Everyone wants to come back again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Robert and Carol, Thank you again for sharing your home with us. We had a wonderful trip. It was too short of a trip but we packed quite a bit into two days. We even squeezed in a few college football games during our beach breaks. The children enjoyed every aspect of the house and it's charming character. Our boys claimed the bunk room and the girls shared the two bedrooms with friends. They had the doors open and beach music on every morning by 7:00 am. Why can't I get them to wake up like that at home.? We loved the house and are looking at our schedule to see how soon we can come again. We had several friends visit us from Destin for dinner and they may be calling soon too. They have never stayed in Seaside either. I think your house sold them.Did you find this review helpful? Hi Robert, Your home was absolutely wonderful. I wanted to stay longer, just so I could explore all the nooks and crannies. The details were amazing, the wrought iron handle for the staircase, the tongue-and-groove woodwork - loved the hidden doors with the shower and bathroom upstairs. Loved the wood detail on the loft - gorgeous. I slept up there one night with the window open underneath the stars. Loved, loved, loved the hooks along the walls. We have a rental on Tybee Island/Savannah - I'm going to steal that idea. Loved the blue-washed wood. I could go on and on. It is a beautiful cottage and the culmination of all the detail - makes it looks like it was built 100 years ago. We will definitely come back. PS. You are free to use my comments and name, if needed. Thanks much!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1989
About the owner: Robert Orr, FAIA, LEED® is a Seaside original. He is an award-winning architect, Smart Growth planner and one of the originators of New Urbanism, which aims to create walk able, mixed-use, and mixed-income neighborhoods. His collaboration with Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk at Seaside, Florida in 1982 was honored by Time Magazine as '...the most astonishing design achievement of its era and one might hope the most influential.' Robert received his MArch from Yale and his BA from the University of Vermont. A practitioner, professor, lecturer, and writer, Robert lives with his wife and four children in New Haven, Connecticut.
Why the Owner Chose Seaside:
Seaside is the 'historic district' of all the subsequent new towns (Watercolor, Rosemary Beach, Water Sound, Alys Beach) on the Gulf Coast. After taking part in Seaside's 1982 creation, and then witnessing tremendous success after each new street, it was only natural to dive in and become an owner. Seaside never fails to surprise with the constant evolution of the town. It's always a fresh experience, no matter how many times I return.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We often come with other families, sharing our house all together. One such family announced it was the first time they ever felt they were on vacation with children. Seaside's so safe and child friendly that you feel comfortable giving them bikes to explore on their own. The stress of being a parent on vacation just melts away.
