Our family spent a very peaceful and fun week in this house last summer. We really liked the location of the house which was close to everything, but you'd never know it when you're sitting out back on the deck enjoying the beautiful views of Mt. Elmore and the peace and quiet of the surrounding woods and fields. The yard and garden are beautiful and very well kept. We have young children that had so much fun on the hammock, playing soccer in the yard, and visiting the horses across the street. The house is well stocked and very comfortable. The owners, who were a so kind and accommodating, have made sure that their guests want for nothing while staying at their house! The kitchen had everything you could need to prepare meals at home, there were beach towels, board games, maps of local hikes, and a great family room in the basement with toys that provided the kids with lots to keep them occupied. We were having such a nice time that we asked if we could extend our week by two days! We love Vermont in the summer and look forward to coming back to stay at this lovely house in the future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This place was a great place to stay just within a half hour of many things we wanted to do in Vermont. The house was nice and on a huge plot of land so we were able to listen to music and play ping-pong and not worry about disturbing neighbors. Ellen and Larry were extemely easy to deal with and knowledgeable about the area and were able to give us suggestions on places to eat and which mountains were the best. If I ever go back to Stowe I will definately stay here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Our family had a wonderful stay in this house. Ellen and Larry were wonderful to work with, and the home was just what we were looking for. A short drive to the slopes, but tucked away in a beautiful location that really made you feel like you were getting away from it all. The house had everything that you could need and then some. From the ping pong table to the gas fireplace to the stocked kitchen to the snow covered field next door for sledding, this house really has it all. We will definitely consider returning.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We just got back from our stay at your home. There was lots of space for the four of us and it was clean and comfortable. We love the gas fireplace! The ktchen was fully stocked; we made breakfast every morning and brought our lunches to the mountain, which was a huge savings. We skied/boarded at Stowe, Smuggs, and Jay Peak which were all under an hour drive. So convenient! It was a pleasure working with Larry and Ellen and hope to return. Ellen, my daughter loved UVM, so there's a good chance we'll be back! Thanks for everything!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children.

We found the Hyde Park property belonging to Larry & Ellen Gibs to be a delight. The main floor great room is a comfortable space for eating and lounging and connects to the deck which over looks a spacious yard. Flowers abound, as do birds. The view of distant mountains is glorious, whether highlighted by the sun rising in the morning or the moon at night; even on cloudy or rainy days, nature is shown off to great advantage. It's very peaceful here! The Gibses are pleasant and accommodating hosts. We've been here 3 times and plan to return again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Owner info

About the owner: We are a professional couple who live in Massachusetts, but decided to buy a home in VT. We spend as much time as we can in the home that we love. In the spring and summer we are avid gardeners and spend as much time as we can working in the garden. When we are not gardening we love to have family and friends visit to go kayaking on the Green River Reservoir only minutes from the house or hiking in the mountains. A summer would not be complete without concerts in the meadow or at Shelburne Farms. In the winter we ski and snow shoe. We have two married sons and two granddaughters. They spend hours in the car from Brooklyn because they love VT. It is always difficult for them to leave when they need to go home. The girls talk about going to VT as soon as they get home. If we ever get to retire this is where we hope to live.
Why the Owner Chose Stowe:
We chose Hyde Park because we wanted the feel of a small community, but we wanted the advantages of being close to Stowe and all the activities that a resort town offers. We can be at any activity winter or summer in less than an hour. That includes skiing, swimming, music, boating or fishing or First Night in Burlington.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our home is cool in summer and snug in winter. We love to relax on the deck, listen to the birds and enjoy the views. In the winter it feels like a cozy cocoon, snug and warm. A snug place to read a book, cook a gourmet meal or warm up after a trip to the slopes or out our back yard to snow shoe.
