The cabin was more than we expected. The different levels made it very private for the family to be together. Everything was provided for cooking and they had a lot of board games for enjoyment. The cabin was very clean and lake was beautiful. I will go back and try it out in the summer months as well!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Lee Ann, Thanks for your positive comments on your visit to Serenity on Cedar. We're looking forward to having you return this summer. With kind regards, Carol

Our family of 10 loved Serenity on Cedar. What a fabulous cabin home with absolutely gorgeous river and mountain views! We usually vacation in Western NC every summer and I have to say that this by far has been our favorite vacation home. We loved the lake, fishing, kayaks, swimming and canoes. This cabin has something for everyone. The cabin was fully furnished, clean and comfortable. I would recommend this property to everyone. We also felt as though it was convenient to other activities including tubing, hiking, Tuckasegee outfitters, Dillsboro, Deep Creek etc. We were just sorry that our vacation week was over. We will definitely stay at this beautiful Lakefront cabin again.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

We stayed at SOC over the Christmas and New Year holiday with my husband and two young boys and our friends and their two girls. It was perfect for the 8 of us with plenty of privacy and places to gather as a group. Loved the lower flore with the foos ball table and it's own kitchen. Kids could wake up early and play down there while the adults slept in a bit! The lake view is spectacular! We went kayaking and saw the waterfalls and some lovely birds. It is so quite and peaceful! We did a lot of hiking, horseback riding, gem mining, etc.... And had a ball! This home is truly lovely and the owners are attentive to your needs without being obtrusive. We hope to return in the summer months!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time at this lovely cabin. It was clean, bug free, and spacious. The views were spectacular. We enjoyed the boating and fishing - caught a total of 4 fish. There was plenty of room for ourselves, our married children, and our granddaughter. Everyone has agreed that a trip back next year is a must! Carol & Ed are attentive owners who make sure your stay is a good one - calling to check on things and making sure all is well. They were a pleasure to deal with. Thanks for sharing your home with us!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My family met to spend Thanksgiving week at Serenity on Cedar. It was absolutely FABULOUS!. It was layed out perfectly for my family and having 2 kitchens really worked well with all of our Thanksgiving fixings. The cabin is very well equipped, immaculate and so very cozy. The views are absolutely breath taking. It is such a peaceful spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday busy lives. Our famiily really enjoyed using the boats for recreation and fishing. Also, the owner Carol was very accomodating. She called to check on us several times and when we discovered we did not have ESPN to watch football she immediately had it added for us. It served as a big slice of serenity and fellowship for my family. We will definitely be going back....my kid's are already asking if we can go back this summer. The only negative I have is the road getting down into the cabin is VERY steep and trecherous so proceed down VERY carefully and then enjoy!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

WOW!!! Not even sure where to start. "Serenity on Cedar" is just as the name implies. The vista is majestic. I spent a week with family & friends and as I write these nostalgia is setting in. We never wanted to leave. (we even thought about calling Carol to put in an offer on the cabin-LOL) If you have a large group or just the 2 of you, "Serenity on Cedar" is the place to stay. We can not wait to go back next year. Be sure to check out the beautiful hand made pottery they offer too. the prices are great for beautiful one of a kind peices of art. "Serenity on Cedar" will be in my families memories forever.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Serenity On Cedar is a great place to relax with family and friends. The photos on the website do not do the cabin or the scenery justice. You have to be there to appreciate how beautiful the cabin is; the mountains and lake are just picture perfect. The cabin is not only nicely decorated, but it is well equipped with kitchenware. There are also lots of games that you can play with your family when you want to stay indoors. The cabin is very close to the lake for easy access. The lake is barely occupied so you can feel safe to do any kind of water sports. Our family just could not have had a better time anywhere else! Important Information for your stay at SERENITY ON CEDAR Cabin Telephone number is: 828-293-0151. Welcome to Cedar Cliff Lake and our log cabin vacation home. We hope you enjoy your stay. We have made every effort to insure that our home will be problem free for you. If anything is out-of-order, please notify Carol Taylor at 507-5923. If I cannot be reached, please call Ed Taylor 507-2965. 1. Items furnished are bath towels, bed linens, pillows, blankets, all dishes, pots and pans, gas grill and some games, a foosball table and books. We also have a high chair and playpen. 2. Items not furnished are toilet tissue, other paper items, soap and personal items. 3. Telephone service is provided for all calls within the continental USA. Due to the lack of cell towers in the mountains, cell phones usually won’t work very well from here. However, we recently installed a Verizon Wireless Cell Phone Extender and if you have this service provider, you should have service within the cabin. 4. For those bringing personal computers, we have wireless broadband internet. The password is 8282930151. Frontier’s number is 1-877-462-8188 if you need help. 5. Four flat screen TV’s with satellite reception, 2 DVD players, a VCR and CD player are available. A movie channel, local Asheville news and sports channels are available. To operate the TV, you must fist turn power on manually using the button on the unit itself. Then, turn on the remote (satellite remote) and push button to activate satellite. Be sure the TV is set on Channel 3. If you have any satellite problems, please call DirecTV at 1-800-824-9081. If they cannot solve the problem, please contact me so that I can arrange for any other required servicing. Please be aware that storms can adversely affect satellite reception and in the event of such an occurrence, the service companies are overwhelmed with calls. I will make every effort to resolve any problems as quickly as possible. 6. There are rock fireplaces on the main and lower levels. The lower level fireplace does not draw as well though and we prefer that you just use the one on the main level only. Please be sure that the damper is open before you build a fire. To open the damper, follow the chain to the handle and push forward and up. Light a piece of paper and hold up near the damper to see that there is a good draft. Then proceed with fire building. To avoid having smoke come back into the cabin, build the fire toward the back of the fireplace and crack a window about 2 inches. We provide kindling and firewood to get you started. If you need more, Wal-Mart is a great place to purchase bundles at a reasonable cost. Remember to close the damper after the fireplace has cooled. 7. No outdoor Campfires on premises or in the common area are permitted. 8. Should a thunderstorm appear, please lower the umbrellas on the upper deck and close any open windows. The lower deck is covered and a great place to watch a storm or enjoy the shade. Please make yourself comfortable on the hammock, swing and rocking chairs. 9. A gas grill is provided for your use. There is a spare gas tank in the outside utility room on the lower level. If you change the tank, please leave the empty tank on the covered porch on the main level, and we’ll arrange for a refill. When finished grilling, please insure that the grill has been properly turned off. 10. Please be aware that mountain homes are on septic systems. Nothing but toilet tissue should be disposed of in the toilets. Should a plumber be needed due to misuse, your security deposit will be charged. 11. Cleaning is only provided between guests except when vacationers stay multiple weeks. In this case, cleaning can be provided weekly. The home has a washer/dryer and some cleaning supplies. Please leave the premises in fairly clean condition, including the yard and boat dock area. NO LITTERING PLEASE!!! 12. Please close all doors when entering and leaving the cabin to prevent wildlife from joining you inside. 13. Please stow your garbage in the outside containers when you depart. 14. Should there be a power outage, you can find a flashlight and/or candles in the kitchen top drawer nearest the refrigerator or on top of it. 15. A canoe, five recreational kayaks and a rowboat are available for your use. The kayaks and canoe are in the boat rack near the boat dock and the rowboat is in a boat slip. Our smaller kayaks (Otters) are geared for children and small to medium size adults. The life jackets, paddles and oars are located on the lower level in an outside utility room as you exit out toward the lake. It may be locked, but you can find a key on the bulletin board next to the telephone on the main level. You will need to secure the boats to the dock each day during your stay and return the paddles, oars and life jackets inside. If you choose to leave the boats in the dock area, be sure they stay in the water and are roped securely to the dock. This is a common dock used by other homeowners and we do not want to monopolize the entire area by leaving kayaks on the walking area. It will be your responsibility to return the boats to their original location prior to departure. If you use the rowboat, please make an effort to remove any excess water in the bottom. THE CANOE AND KAYAKS NEED TO BE PLACED UPSIDE DOWN IN THE BOAT RACK SO THEY WON’T FILL WITH WATER IF IT RAINS. Any other floatation devices down by the dock are our neighbors’ property and are not available for use. 16. The boat dock has four boat slips and the one closest to our cabin (on the right) is for the rowboat. You may dock your own boat in the slip next to it. You will need to take your boat to the boat landing on Shook Cove Road. Go to Hwy 107 and turn left. Shook Cove Road is first left and the boat landing is a few miles down this road. You can launch your boat there and drive it to the boat slip. Your boat trailer can be parked at a boat storage area ½ mile from our cabin. If you bring your own boat, please contact Jeff Frady (828- 293-3819 or828- 399-0477 cell) at Tri-Lake Boat Storage for your boat trailer storage. 17. NEW in the last year, we added a foosball table for entertainment. Also for your enjoyment is our mountain pottery for sale. We have beautiful pottery displayed throughout the cabin. Instructions for purchasing are on the kitchen counter on the lower level. 18. CAUTION!!! As you hike the grounds and trails to the boat dock, please be very careful as rocks and the steep grade can be extremely slippery and treacherous!!! 19. If your vehicle is a 2-wheel drive, when leaving the property be sure to build up some speed prior to ascending the gravel road up to Route 281. 20. Let us know how your stay went. Please write a note in the guest book in the cabin and also in our online guest book at www.vrbo.com/31739. Hope you have a wonderful time!
