True Family "Serenity" Thanksgiving

Guest: Susan (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 11/22/11 Review Submitted: 11/28/11

My family met to spend Thanksgiving week at Serenity on Cedar. It was absolutely FABULOUS!. It was layed out perfectly for my family and having 2 kitchens really worked well with all of our Thanksgiving fixings. The cabin is very well equipped, immaculate and so very cozy. The views are absolutely breath taking. It is such a peaceful spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday busy lives. Our famiily really enjoyed using the boats for recreation and fishing. Also, the owner Carol was very accomodating. She called to check on us several times and when we discovered we did not have ESPN to watch football she immediately had it added for us. It served as a big slice of serenity and fellowship for my family. We will definitely be going back....my kid's are already asking if we can go back this summer. The only negative I have is the road getting down into the cabin is VERY steep and trecherous so proceed down VERY carefully and then enjoy!

This cabin has to be the most beautiful one my family and I have ever stayed at. Great vista, great rate, great location. Perfect spot for friends, family or honeymooners.

WOW!!! Not even sure where to start. "Serenity on Cedar" is just as the name implies. The vista is majestic. I spent a week with family & friends and as I write these nostalgia is setting in. We never wanted to leave. (we even thought about calling Carol to put in an offer on the cabin-LOL) If you have a large group or just the 2 of you, "Serenity on Cedar" is the place to stay. We can not wait to go back next year. Be sure to check out the beautiful hand made pottery they offer too. the prices are great for beautiful one of a kind peices of art. "Serenity on Cedar" will be in my families memories forever.

The cabin was more than we expected. The different levels made it very private for the family to be together. Everything was provided for cooking and they had a lot of board games for enjoyment. The cabin was very clean and lake was beautiful. I will go back and try it out in the summer months as well!

Owner response:Dear Lee Ann, Thanks for your positive comments on your visit to Serenity on Cedar. We're looking forward to having you return this summer. With kind regards, Carol

Serenity On Cedar is a great place to relax with family and friends. The photos on the website do not do the cabin or the scenery justice. You have to be there to appreciate how beautiful the cabin is; the mountains and lake are just picture perfect. The cabin is not only nicely decorated, but it is well equipped with kitchenware. There are also lots of games that you can play with your family when you want to stay indoors. The cabin is very close to the lake for easy access. The lake is barely occupied so you can feel safe to do any kind of water sports. Our family just could not have had a better time anywhere else! The Romagnolis and Zions

We were a party of ten people and we had an incredible time during our one week stay. The cabin surpassed all of our expectations. It is reminiscent of the kind of "dream home" which we would all imagine to own one day. This cabin is extremely remote and secluded on a lakefront hillside and there is virtually no sign of human kind when you look out over the magnificent green hills. The cabin has two outdoor decks overlooking the lake which have eating tables, bench swings and a hammock. If you're an early riser you can see the mist coming off of the water and hear the owls calling to one another. The cabin was immaculate and beautifully landscaped with colorful flowers abundant in the entryway and the internet access allowed us to check our emails and surf the net during our stay. Our teens loved the family barbeques, DVDs, board games, swimming, fishing and kayaking. On one day, we drove to see the nearby Biltmore Estate, and on another, we went shopping in nearby Cashiers...although it was difficult leaving such an extraordinary cabin. I would be truthful also in saying our hostess was very helpful and gracious and we will always treasure the time we spent there. Sarah Calcagno & Family

The cabin was beautiful. It was so very clean and peaceful. The lake was beautiful -to cold to get in but beautiful to look at. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. We rode the polar express train while visiting. Overall a very nice relaxing trip. And the owners were so nice and helpful. Thanks.

If you love beauty and peace and quiet, you will not be disappointed. This cabin looks out on a gorgeous lake with beautiful deck views on 2 levels. We were there for 4 days and only saw 2 boats go by. AND we couldn't see any houses until we went out on those great kayaks and the canoe - absolutely blissful. We finally saw a few houses as we rowed, but they were high above us. We were there with longtime friends and felt no need to go to the nearby restaurants, which had great reviews. There are two kitchens and a grill, much more than we needed. We can't wait to come back.

Serenity on Cedar could not be more perfectly named. This was a beautiful, completely comfortable cabin in a peaceful setting with a gorgeous view. The owner has provided a well-equipped vacation home in a lovely corner of the NC mountains. The lake is such a relaxing place for swimming, boating, and fishing. The web site provides an absolutely accurate description. Peace, comfort, beauty, and rest are all available at this beautiful home -- and if you get restless, there's local shopping for the ladies and golf for the guys.

"Serenity on Cedar" is a great place for a family vacation or to get away from it all. Carol has supplied everything you will need from the boats, well supplied kitchen, games for the kids and adults, life vest and cushions for the boats, not to mention the hammock! You feel like you are the only ones living on the lake. We took the boats and found three diffenet water falls, cuaght fish off the dock and in the boats. I caught rainbow trout in the Tuckasegee River. You are 15 miles from both Sylva and Cashiers for shopping and great resturants. My family of 7 had a great vacation and hope to return to "Serenity on Cedar". Thank You Carol for sharing your cabin.

Today is Ed's birthday and we could not have found a better place to spend it than right here at "Serenity on Cedar". I had either forgotten or possibly never heard what it is like to experience stillness, calmness, quiet time like we have here. "Serenity" is a perfect way to describe the feeling that we experienced. I loved waking up and seeing the fog over the mountains cross the lake. We watched the wind blow across the water and enjoyed the sounds of the water running down the creekbed beside of the cabin. For several years I have wanted to spend a weekend away in a log cabin in the mountains, but the opportunity never presented itself until now. This has been a wonderful place and time beyond what I had imagined. Normally when we travel, we drive around and check out all the local sites. Staying here at Serenity on Cedar leaves me with no desire to look any place further. There just cannot possibly be anything better or more to see than is right here. We thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us.

"Serenity on Cedar" - what a perfect name! The whole Turner family, from the 8 month old to the 70 year old, loved it. We felt like we had our private hide-away here, complete with our very own lake. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. The perfect compliment is that everyone said "Let's do it again next year!"

Well, I can't sleep! Why? Because, I got engaged about 5 hours ago! My boyfriend (now fiancee) brought me up to this beautiful place for a birthday present. Little did I know that he was going to "pop the question" as well! He got down on one knee out on the deck while we were watching the sunset and starting to see the stars come out. The utopia that is the place, now became perfection. Although we couldn't see it too well through all our tears of happiness! I already knew that Serenity on Cedar was/is fabulous...but I had no idea that it was going to be to this degree! Wendy What a great weekend! It seems that I have gotten more rest than Wendy has. It also seems that we will be coming back. I know we will be coming back! What a wonderful weekend we had! The weather, which was supposed to be rainy, was beautiful and sunny. We got to go kayaking, which was great fun. We found the beautiful waterfall and got to feed the fish. We got to go swimming, too! We relaxed and talked and dreamed of our future together. We both love it here so much, especially now that it has such a special meaning! We will definitely be back. Thank you so much Carol! David

We had a wonderful time at "Serenity". The weather and scenery were beautiful for our Xmas vacation. There were 3 generations of Champagnes, most travelling from Houma, LA and some from Raleigh. We all came together to celebrate one of the grandaughter's graduation from UNC-CH, as well as for Xmas. Go Tarheels! We went skiing and snowboarding for the first time (LA doesn't get too much snow). We had a great time and have the bruises and hillanous video footage to show for it. We also went canoeing and kayaking and managed to not fall in, but not without a few close calls. Being out on the lake on a perfect sunny day defines the serenity of this place. The trip would not have been complete without annual Champagne viewing of "Lord of the Rings". It was the perfect conclusion to the trilogy, but I think we're all a little sad to see it end. Thanks you so much for letting us use your cabin. Our family doesn't all get together very often...your cabin provided the perfect setting to do this. (We could all enjoy each other's company with enough space to move comfortably and not kill each other.) Our big (sometimes loud) family truly tested the serenity in "Serenity on Cedar". If it could prove serene for us, it could be serene for anyone! Thanks again. The Martins - Raleigh, The Champagnes, The Reynolds and The Grems - Houma,LA

Thanks for a wonderful stay at "Serenity on Cedar". There is something about the snow on the branches, the leafless trees and the lake that amplifies the winter season and transforms into it into "Winter Wonderland". Listening to seasonal music on Channel 982 with a fire in the fireplace brought forth the joy and peace of the season.

We once again have made many memories at Serenity on Cedar. Four generations of our family reunioned at your wonderful cabin. Last year Susan was expecting and this year we had a little boy to share this wonderful vacation with. He played all over and absolutely loved the high chair. He took his first rowboat ride and we saw a beautiful waterfall. Thomas caught "Big John" a 19" large mouth bass right around the dam. We had a wonderful time exploring the area expecially all the beautiful waterfalls. We got very wet under "Dry Falls". Thanks to Carol for your hospitality. We'll see you again next year.

Dear Carol, Thank you for sharing you wonderful cabin in the North Carolina hills. We explored the area, golfed, canoed and hiked, but mainly we enjoyed your wonderful decks. We have been meeting at least once a year for 30 years - Alabama, Ohio, Texas - catching up on family and events. A lot of time was spent in early morning talks and late evening visits. The weather was great and not a thing was lacking in the cabin. The Burnes (Texas),The Roensches (Alabama), The Gunnings (Ohio)

Serenity on Cedar was just what the Doctor ordered for our family! A great week of relaxing, fishing, hiking, sightseeing and just being together. Three generations of Gilmores come to this lovely home, and we all had a great time - just being together, sitting on the deck, taking in all the fresh air and beauty. It was good for the soul. We will definitely put this family vacation at the top of the list as a great place to be together. Thanks, Carol, for letting us stay here and we hope to see you again. Best regards, The Gilmores

There are really no words to truly express the sheer magnificence of Serenity. This, my third year of being able to experience the beauty and inner peace wrought by Serenity, was even more special than ever as it was my first opportunity to share it with my now-grown son Sherrod. The memories will never be forgotten. Thank you Carol - Thank you Will and thanks to Jim for his dreams.
