Our time spent at Hale Kulani truly was a dream vacation. Our family of 9 spent 8 wonderful nights and days on Maui in this lovely property! The gorgeous pictures on the website are exactly what you see when you are there in person! While the home is beautifully decorated, the best seat is outside on the lanai! Our mornings were spent drinking coffee and enjoying the amazing views from this viewpoint. My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in a renewal ceremony with the gorgeous views as a backdrop! Melissa, the owner, graciously helped in instrumenting this a memorable occasion by putting me in contact with fantastic local vendors (caterer, photographer, wedding/renewal coordinator). While the island of Maui offers incredible experiences and activities, Hale Kulani made our time even more special and unforgettable. I can honestly say that you will not be disappointed in selecting this property! It has all the components to ensure a dream vacation!

I rented this house for myself, my finance, my son and his family and my brother and sister-in-law for a family vacation in Maui. We were not disappointed. The house is equipped with everything you can possibly need. The furnishings and linens are beautiful. Our greeters were very informative and the owner called to see if everything was in order and we were enjoying our stay. During our stay my finance and I were married on the beach at sunset which was fabulous. We used the pool house as our "honeymoon suite". The pool and spa were wonderful and kept my two grandsons entertained. The view is beautiful as was laying by the pool at night looking at the stars. Yes there are insects, lizards and rodents but that is to be expected in a tropical location and they were not a problem. I loved waking every morning to the birds singing and picking fruit from the many fruit and citrus trees. Fresh mango's, banana's and limes, what more can you ask for! After eight nights we felt so at home we did not want to leave. I highly recommend this home for a relaxing vacation.

We just spent a week here celebrating our 40th anniversary with our two son's and daughters-in-love. What an amazing home this is-exactly as presented on the website but more beautiful and delightful than we anticipated. We loved relaxing in the spa and around the pool with the most lovely landscaping and mountain peaks surrounding us. The large, gourmet kitchen made mealtime prep fun with three couples able to cook, set up, bbq, dine and clean up with everything at our fingertips. Each room was so well-appointed that we lacked for nothing. We loved the outdoor showers and the lovely decor. The garage had beach chairs, mats, coolers, boogie boards to take on beach jaunts. We loved every minute and will always remember our time here in this beautiful home.

My siblings and our significant others stayed here for 6 days 5 nights. House was very clean, nice decor, clean linen, plenty of beach supplies in garage, and kitchen was well stock with everything you need. Close to the beach. Went for a run one morning all the way down to beach and struggled greatly coming back up. I recommend everyone going on the same run. It's a good experience. Anyways not too much complaints here except for AC. We called and mentioned to greeter many times regarding AC not coming on. We were advised to close all window and doors and AC should kick on automatically. That wasn't the case. One of the sliding doors to the bedroom could not shut completely and that could have been the caused. We mention that also and it was taken care of. Called back and left message. Never received return call. We would have like to enjoyed some AC during the late evening but I guess it's too bad. That was one of our main reasons for staying here besides other places. Nice home but if you stay here because of AC please make sure it turns on first while gretter is there.

Owner response: Thank you for your reveiw, unfortunately the prior guests dismantled the ac sensor and it was kicked under the couch. As soon as it was found by the housekeepers was replaced immediately.

We chose this house after a great deal of research and we could not have been happier with our selection. The pool area is perfect. The owner keeps the property well stocked with bath and beach towels. The outdoor showers were a neat change. The view from the house is beautiful. My toddler son could not get enough of the pool, swinging outdoor bed, and taking afternoon naps in the big cushie chair in the living room. There are lots of places at this house to quietly read a book or just relax. The owner was quite easy to work with and her assistant was very nice and accommodating. I strongly encourage anyone planning a trip to Maui to rent this house.

The house was set up perfectly for my family - one family in the main bedroom and in the twin room in the house, and the other room had its own separate entrance. Kitchen had everything you could need to make wonderful lunches and dinners and the living space was very comfortable. We loved the pool and the bed swing, and having the refrigerator in the pool house was very handy. Heard people in nearby houses (kids in pools) during the day and they probably heard us too, but at night it was peaceful and quiet. The only con was the ants in the kitchen, but it was fine once we sprayed (owner had left spray under the sink) and kept any food off the counter and sealed up. The welcome basket was really lovely, as we got in late the night before and it had coffee and some nibbles for us. We loved this house and it only made our vacation better.

We had a great time at this home. The home was very nice and was laid out very well for 4 seperate couples, giving us all our own space. The grounds and view were also beautiful. The house was outfitted well, it was just like being at home, but in paradise. If I had to say anything negative about the property, is that it is in a residenital neighborhood and the neighbors are very sensitive about noise, we had one day from about 4pm to 6pm, where we were a little to loud playing in the pool and the neighbors got upset, we quieted down and everything was great. Just remember voices carry in paradise. We would totally go back. Thank you "Hale Kulani" for a great trip.

Our family of 10 thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home and property are beautiful and private and provide a wonderful variety of options for a group. Our group ranged in age from 9 to 55 with some one in each age decade. The pool and hot tub were favourites, of course. We took turns utilizing the fabulous kitchen and making wonderful meals and sitting out on the lanai enjoying the view -- morning and night. We happened to hit a week with not the greatest weather, but this location provided us with many options and opportunities. We were there during the Humpback Whale migration in the Hawaiian waters. With binoculars, you could see the whales surfacing from the property. This wonderful home, on the outskirts of Lahaina, was the key point to enjoying our trip to Maui. Thank you Melissa and Shannon. Mahalo!

From the moment we stepped onto the property we were breathless. Every room in this amazing space was decorated to perfection. We felt at home immediately. Everything from the professional kitchen to the pool was perfect with picture perfect views of the ocean and country side. Great location very close to Lahaina and all of the shops and sights. We had an amazing time bbq'ing on the Lanai with our close friends and family. We have been blessed to find this special place to share with our family, we will never stay anyplace else as this is truely paradise.

This is a wonderful property in a great location. Imagine looking out your kitchen window at a towering volcanic mountain and then turning around to look out the kitchen door at a stunning water and island view. The scenery was simply staggering. We constantly found ourselves sitting in the lanai area just admiring the view and enjoying the warm temperatures. The grounds are well designed, expertly landscaped and meticulously maintained. It really does feel like a slice of paradise. The house design was perfect for our group as it allowed privacy for both sets of adults and the five teenagers. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was even a second refrigerator in the garage for storing excess food. This was the best stocked rental property in terms of dishes, pots and pans, utensils, and appliances that I have ever stayed in. The living room was a spacious and popular meeting spot for the kids. We especially appreciated having the NHL network as part of the cable package. It was also nice that all of the sleeping areas had separate decent sized televisions. The neighbourhood is very quiet and peaceful. This is not the spot to go if you are heavy duty partiers but it is perfect if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place to relax and chill out. We especially liked being able to take advantage of the extensive walking trails and hiking paths in the area. We had some great early morning hikes with the kids. The pool was not heated during our stay as the solar panels had been damaged. That was a concern as we are more pool people than beach people. To the owner's credit she did get new solar panels installed over the Christmas period when getting anything done is difficult. Unfortunately they did not work out. That was disappointing. We all loved the hanging bed by the poolhouse. That was a very nice touch. In fact, the whole pool area was a nice little oasis to retreat to and a comfortable space to be in. The Christmas tree that the owner had decorated for us was a very nice welcoming touch. It set the tone of a comfortable home-like space right from the start. I guess that is the best way to describe the property overall ... it just felt comfortable.

House was super nice! Older son loved staying in the room by the pool. Pool was beautiful with a beautiful view. Owner was very helpful and gave us lots of ideas of things to do. This was our first time to Maui and we discovered that Lahaina was pretty much in the middle of everything. Good location! The kitchen was great with everything you'd need to make your meals. We didn't utilize the outdoor BBQ's because we mostly ate out at night but the set up would be perfect for an outdoor dinner. I would not hesitate recomending this home to anyone or even staying there again. Was sad to leave.

Staying at the property as a family member who has been there before was amazing. It looked better than ever. The landscaping has grown in so well, there is a feeling of privacy that you just can't get through going to a resort. I brought five friends with me, married and single, and all were blown away by the amount of private space everyone had. One person said it was like showing up at one of the houses featured on a reality show! And there is so many different areas for entertaining and mingling. The pool and spa were the perfect temperature night and day. We had people with us that had never been to Hawaii before and were blown away with it just from being at the property. The owner is more than accomodating and a wonderful hostess. We call dibs for next Halloween!

This house gives you the true feeling of Hawaii!! My family was able to enjoy our time together as well as enjoy beautiful Maui. You will never have this in a hotel, although a hotel may be a little cheaper. But I was looking for beautiful memories spent in a beautiful place with my beautiful family. And that's exactly what we got. The sunrise and sunsets you see as well as the view from the house is breath taking, the pictures don't do it justice. If you decide to stay here you won't be disappointed and you won't be able to get it out of your mind when you get back home.

Oh where do I begin! This house truly was a home in the heavens. My 9 family members (including two teenagers) and myself stayed at this property to celebrate my Grandmother's 85th birthday and had a truly amazing time. We were incredibly pleased with the amount of space to relax and enjoy the ocean view and gorgeous landscaping! Many special meals were shared together around the huge dining table on the beautiful lanai. We did have a few hiccups with some of the kitchen appliances (mainly the dishwasher) but it was very minor and did not disrupt our wonderful stay. The pool and spa were perfect and we did not mind the pool vacuum cleaner - a tiny price to pay for having a sparkling clean saline pool! Lastly, I cannot say enough kind words about the owner and caretaker of this property - the hospitality was outstanding. I cannot imagine going back to Maui and staying anywhere else but HERE! We cannot wait to return!!!

We rented in July 2011 to celebrate our 30th anniversary. The home and property are beautiful! The dining room is outside on the patio. The kitchen is beautiful and there are 2 outdoor showers that were quite a treat to use But one never had hot water. The greeter Liz, was very nice! Those are some of the positives.Unfortunately things were breaking down from the 1st day! Some were taken care of after repeated calls, and some weren't. 1st day, a leak in a water filtering system under the kitchen sink leaked water all over the floor in front of the sink, The dishwasher wouldn't work for us even though we followed the instructions to a T. It ran partway then the cycle stopped and never finish. Every time there was standing water in the bottom of it, and the dishes weren't clean. We finally gave up and washed by hand. The coffee machine in the kitchen wouldn't work and when we told the owner she yelled at me! The espresso machine wouldn't work either, and one of the burners on the stove didn't work. The freezer was set too low, and all our ice cream, steaks and prawns thawed! At arrival, the greeter told us that this a tropical climate and there are pests, insects and rodents native, but the owner doesn't want to spray anything; she wants to be "green." Every single evening we had geckos crawling IN the kitchen on counters and IN the cabinets! We kept it very clean, counters scrubbed after every meal, and floors swept 2 x a day, but also had ants in the kitchen and even on wrapped food, and had to throw a lot out! There are a lot of cockroaches outside where we ate and on EVERY sitting area outside! Some inside. There were mice, scorpions, centipedes and biting red ants. You just felt like you were always needing to be on alert to what was crawling around. There's a LOT more I could write, but I'm limited on space here. The WORST part, without a doubt, is when I called the owner to discuss things, and she SCREAMED at me so loud, I was holding the phone a foot away from my ear! She accused us of breaking things, and told me I'm lucky she's letting us stay in a 2 million dollar home! Uh, excuse me, but we weren't staying free! We paid a lot! When she came down to "see what we were doing to her home" (as she put it!)she saw we kept it immaculate, and apologized. If you can overlook all that, this might be the place for your dream vacation. But just be forewarned that if you have to call the owner, your dream vacation can turn into a nightmare! We'll look elsewhere next time.

What a great home!! We stayed here for 8 days w/ 8 adults and a one year old. It was great to have so much personal space for everyone (love that everyone had their own bathroom). The kitchen was stocked, the outdoor living amazing, and we spent a ton of time poolside. This house is AMAZING!! Absolutely perfect for families or small groups. The views were breath-taking, the home wonderful (beautifully decorated) and the owners were so great to work with. All in all it was nothing but a great experience. We hope to return someday! Accommodations are perfect for up to 8 adults and the location is best for access to the whole island. We enjoyed the layout of the house, the well-supplied kitchen and the pool and spa were excellent. Access to the beach is down the hill and you can enjoy Wailea to Kapalua with easy driving. Running and hiking trails begin at the door and the stars shine bright at night. Planning for next year already!

Would not recommend. Large white vacuum present in pool...interferes w swimming and enjoying pool. Pool was very cold and did not feel usable to us. Most of the tiki torches were empty upon our arrival and we found the common living area very small. The grounds are nice and other then the pool, they are in line with the pictures. But def. would not recommend this to other travels as it did not meet our expectations.

Owner response: The pool is a saline pool that is solar heated. The vacuum acts as a filtration system to keep the pool clean and sanitized. Our guests and our family prefer this type of pool over chlorinated. The vacuum should not prevent the enjoyment of the pool. The tiki torches are filled on request as the fuel will evaporate quickly from the sun. The pool temp. is always between 75-86 degrees depending on the sunshine.

The house and grounds are beautiful, but that's where it ends. The pictures don't show you the ugly vacuum that you are required to leave in the pool at all times, the "WiFi" is sketchy at best, and mostly unusable. The tiki torches were almost all void of fuel upon check-in. We had to check in a half hour late due to the cleaning crew still working on the house. The home was advertised as having outdoor speakers, but I can't imagine that anyone could ever use them, since we never turned them on, but still had immediate noise complaints when we turned on a small speaker connected to an ipod. The neighbors are extremely close, and there is no privacy to speak of. There is also no air conditioning in all but two of the sleeping areas. I definitely would not recommend this home, and this is without even going into the issues that actually caused us to ask to leave the home prematurely, and attempt to recoup any costs that we could. This home was supposed to be part of a dream vacation, but it turned out to be a nightmare.

Owner response: Aloha Disappointed, You have a right to review us here on vrbo and we respect the right to free speech in the good old USA. We also have that right. IF your review gets posted, then we feel that our response to vrbo about your review should be posted in association with it. Below is the exact wording of our 1,000 word limited response to the vrbo website. To all those interested in renting this estate, this is the first complaint we have ever had and this is a high end, quiet neighborhood, filled with "gentleman's estates". We hope you forgive us this public defense of our good name and reputation. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to remain silent in matters like this, as our silence would convey agreement to the above review and its nastiness. We take pride in everything we do and the reputation it brings us. You will not be disappointed in this private home or private estate on Maui. Mahalo Nui Loa, M In response to the malicious review of vrbo # 317399, that I found this morning(Review Title : 1276819 - "Wouldn't recommend") I must tell vrbo that guests had repeated contract violations from the day they showed up. They were a group of 20 and 30 somethings that came here for nothing more than to party. The property is 1.25 acres, so there is privacy from neighbors. The home manager and owner were on site 3 or 4 times within the first 3 days. The guests had 5 or more cars on property when the contract states no more than 3. They had local unregistered guests with a local unregistered dog staying at the house. Contract says no pets. More cars parked on the street for the parties they had. Excessive noise all day long and into the night. This home is represented as an estate in a quiet neighborhood. Misrepresented their intentions from day one. Police were called. We asked them to leave, not the other way around. Refunded unused time. Please remove or contact me.

Our family spent a magical week here. The compound allowed space and privacy for grandparents, adults and kids, in the most beautiful setting. Private, spacious, clean and just perfect for our family. The house was stocked with everything: from toys to pots and pans, stacks of fresh towels, and enormouse collection of CDs. The kids ran around the lawn in easy view of us adults as we lounged at the pool or on the lanai. Best part were family dinners every night on the lanai... cooked by private chef, Linda Domenico. She created delicious dinners, tailored to our varied tastes and needs, allowing us to sit back and enjoy the sunsets. Linda shopped, organized everything, and stocked the house with lunch, breakfast and snack supplies. Overall, we'd love to come back, and we highly recommend both the house and our lifesaver chef, Linda Domenico. Badoo in CT.

We normally do not write reviews but felt compelled to respond to the negative response from others. We were looking for availability dates for a possible trip this year and noticed the reviews and wanted to share our experiences. Our family vacationed at the estate beginning 29 October 2010. We had 7 adults - our daughter and son in law, son and his girl friend, and other son plus my husband and myself. The estate was so wonderful and everything that we wanted and more than we expected. The owner even stopped by to give us a tour and loan us her juicer and help us pick the fruit from the property. If we had any issues they were addressed immediately. I can say without a doubt that we have traveled as a family extensively and this was truely one of our favorite experiences. The property is lovely and the home is very well maintained. Our adult children said that this was the best vacation that we have ever experienced. Austin Texas K and A

We had a great time at this wonderful house. The property is beautiful, very private with breathtaking views. The house is immaculate and very well appointed. We loved the privacy of the pool, hot tub and pool house. Many hours were spent relaxing on the outdoor swinging daybed. The owner and staff were very helpful and recommended many different activities to make this a very special trip. The location of the house is perfect with easy access to the beach and a short drive into Lahaina. Thank you for sharing this fantastic home with us. We will be back next year!!

We absolutely enjoyed this GORGEOUS estate! Loved everything about the property! Let me tell you, the views are breathtaking and we had fresh bananas every morning hanging off the trees! This was our little Heaven on Earth. We HIGHLY recommend this immaculate vacation paradise to anyone and everyone. Our favorite part of the home was watching the sunset and laying on the swinging outdoor bed, poolside and drinking wine...then the proposal! We got engaged here! Looking forward to our vacation back again with friends next year!
