We spent a week at this beautiful, truly secluded, idyllic home in the remote East End. However much I would rather give a horrible review, in order to dissuade future vacationers to crowd this area, I cannot. Stoney Bay Beach house was perfect. The only requirement; is to have a 4X4 and terrific sense of adventure. Oh, and a bathing suit. Many thanks to the homeowner for the opportunity of an unforgettable experience. We would recommend and return here over and over again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

It's hard to believe that in this era, a place like this exists, and better yet, that it's accessable to regular folks like us. The view of Treasure Island and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore does not get old, even after hours and days of gazing from the cozy hammock on the porch. There is not another structure in sight! Unbelievable! The house is lovely, right on the beach and completely secluded. It's well maintained and well equipped. My husband especially appreciated the A.C. in the bedroom. Bob is a gem, very easy to work with and accomodating. If you are looking for a true escape and the ideal place to decompress, do not hesitate to stay here. You will not want to leave. I know we didn't! Just be sure to load up on groceries in Cruz Bay after you pick up a four wheel drive rental, preferably a Jeep Wrangler (you'll want this for the driveway, driving in St. John is thrilling).Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We spent the week of our 25th Anniversary at this wonderful cottage overlooking Privateer Bay -- it was the perfect getaway. The front porch alone, overlooking our own private beach, was enough to stoke the fires of romance, but the cottage and its location offer so much more. We snorkeled different beaches every day, with some of the best adventures right in front of the cottage. The pictures on the listing don't do justice to the comfortable, yet tasteful decor, and the thoughtful amenities -- including snorkel gear, beach chairs, coolers, beach towels, and more -- made our stay hassle free. The reliable internet service allowed us to quickly take care of business without having to hunt for a connection. We miss the cottage already and can't wait for another opportunity to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

If you are looking for privacy and the sound of surf washing up on rocks then I cannot imagine a better spot on St. John. We have stayed in many houses on the island but returned to few. All three of us can't wait to get back to Stoney Bay Beach House. No problems with the driveway at all and we only used 4wd when it was raining. The constant wind from the east makes being on the covered deck of this villa a pleasure, so nice it was hard to leave.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed for a week on our honeymoon. IDEAL for a couple, newlywed or celebrating a 30th wedding anniversary. Shear perfection. The house, land, and surroundings provided an absolutely stunning piece of paradise. Bob M. is a genuine guy, and Bob and Betsy are ideal caretakers. We never wanted for anything; all questions that came up were answered immediately. The adventuresome driving is really no big deal...just be sure to rent a 4WD Jeep! The house and the land that surrounds it could not be more comfortable or private or pristine. Be sure to visit Vie's Snack Shack for a taste of native cuisine. We cannot thank Bob, Bob and Betsy enough for their guidance and generosity, and we highly recommend this rental. For us it was truly a dream vacation and a trip-of-a-lifetime. Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and our daughter spent ten days at Stoney Bay Beach House and had the time of our lives. The house and the setting was exactly as described, only even more beautiful. I did an enormous amount of research and due diligence before selecting this house, and it did not disappoint--it was just what I was looking for. The place is practically brand new and was spotless, and the best equipped rental I have ever stayed in. The view is spectacular--not another structure in sight; you feel like you are on your own private island. We spent each morning enjoying beach combing on our own private beach, and snorkeled a different beach every afternoon. Bob was very easy to deal with, and very responsive to my endless queries. Bob and Betsy, the local caretakers, were both delightful and respectful of our privacy. If you are looking for the perfect place on the quiet side of the island, this is it. Rent a Jeep; the driveway is not for the faint of heart, but the view is worth it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My wife and i stayed in the Stoney bay beach house for 8 wonderful days.We felt as if we were on our own private island. The most intense snorkeling experience in my life.Coral was huge, water was crystal clear and the fish were awesome.St. John is such a beautiful island and the house was located in the most private and non touristy location possible.Bob and Betsy were wonderful help. They left us alone and only helped us when we needed them.Felt like our own home.Cant wait to visit again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

If you are looking for a private, peaceful, beautiful St. John spot this is it. Comfortable and perfect if you want to spend the day lazing at the house and snorkeling out front or a great launch from which to explore the island. Sound of the surf, sunrises and sunsets. Rent a jeep and you will be all set. My only note is that the driveway is very steep with some tricky turns. Not impossible but I chose to park my car at the top and walk the driveway. The property managers, Bob and Betsy were terrific and were a part of what made it such a great place to rent. I want very much to return to this house. I see no reason to stay anywhere else.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

I cannot express how perfect this vacation rental was. We stayed for 2 weeks in Feb./Mar. 2011 and had our best vacation ever. You will love working with Bob. He made everything totally easy and thoroughly enjoyable. If you enjoy sunrises and warm breezes overlooking your own private cove, you will love this home. My husband and I plus our two teenage children are all in agreement: let's go back next year for three weeks!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Our first two days on St. John this February we explored other parts of the island, visiting the places highlighted in the guidebooks. Then we realized everything we wanted was right here. So we stayed put. Ideal for anyone who truly wants to be in a remote spot, away from it all, with nothing to disturb you other than the sound of the surf washing up on the stony beach.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
