I stayed at Villa Satori with my two sons (8 &4) for one week. Ketut's brother picked us up from the airport and was on time. This is one of the best vacations I have ever had. To start off, Indonesia is already a relaxing location but this home took it to the next level. The house is beautiful and feels like you're living in fairy tale. Breakfast every morning was great. I loved the banana pancakes but my sons preferred plain pancakes. Siting on the patio every morning during breakfast was a great way to start your vacation mornings. Wayan and Ketut are so friendly and helpful. I used Wayan twice to babysit my children and my youngest did not want her to leave. Wayan also cooked for us once, fried rice. The pool was great and refreshing and enjoyed by kids. I can not wait to visit Ubud again in two years and we will defiantly stay at Villa Satori again. Next time I will be more books to read and more wine to drink on the lovely patios. FYI: 1. The walk from the house to the main area of Ubud involves a nice size hill. I had a 4 y/o that I had to carry at times which did not make the hill easy and I am in pretty decent shape. 2. Bring mosquito repellant. Mosquitos were not a problem for me but some people had awful looking legs because of bites.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this wonderful, thoughtful review, and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Villa Satori in 2015! Thank you also for the FYI's: Ketut and Wayan are always available to bring guests up the hill if need be on their motorbikes. Though there are mosquitoes in some parts of Bali, we are very lucky here at Villa Satori to not have any problems with them. To make make absolutely certain and for the guests' peace of mind, we have four electronic bug zappers in the villa, as well as curtain sheers and mosquito netting. Terima kasih banyak and sampai jumpa lagi from Kasey, Ketut, and Wayan

If you are going to stay in Bali, there is no place better than Villa Satori. Just barely outside the bustling town of Ubud, (less than a lovely 10 minute walk) you will have the epitome of Bali hospitality. Set in emerald green rice paddies, it is easy to feel captured by the beauty, peace, and service all around you at Villa Satori. The house and guesthouse are immaculate, and the art, gardens, and food embody an authentic Bali experience. Everything at Villa Satori is fresh, tasteful, and inspired. The outstanding staff at Villa Satori are beyond description—they are gracious and at your service without any intrusion on your stay. I was lucky enough to stay at Villa Satori for 10 days this past March—and I loved every moment. Imagine waking up to banana pancakes, a papaya smoothie, and fresh fruit. As you eat, you will gaze over the gardens with exotic flowers, or watch bright colored tropical birds. Or imagine taking a breathtaking walk through the rice paddies from your front door and meeting local Balinese folks who are going about their day. Or just walk out the front door and have some coconut water served to you in a coconut by lovely Balinese folks. As you decide to explore Ubud, a warm and inviting town, the owner of Villa Satori, Kasey, will give you all the information you need to eat, visit temples, see more of the countryside, and shop for lovely handmade art and fabric. Kasey’s advice is founded on many years of experience living in Bali, and you cannot go wrong with any of her suggestions and guidance. She loves when people enjoy Villa Satori, and is open to helping you customize your experience and vacation. Some folks might want to relax at the luxurious Villa Satori, while others might want to venture out into the beautiful ravines and foothills of this extraordinary place. On the other hand, most likely, everyone will enjoy both relaxing at the villa, taking a swim to cool off, and explore this gentle island. There are many choices of where to stay while you are in Bali. I saw several places, but truly cannot imagine a more charming place to enjoy Bali. The owners of Villa Satori are building three exquisite villas just down the path from Villa Satori and I can safely say, they will be of the same quality—great beauty, tremendous service, close to town, but also a peaceful and magical place to gather. Villa Satori is great for couples, groups of friends, and families. You will have elegance, enchantment, and beauty above you, below youRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Bonnie, What a thoughtful review, and all of us at Villa Satori are very pleased to have been able to make your first visit to Bali such a special one! Bali, and especially the Ubud area, has so many hidden gems to discover; as a former travel agent, it gives me great pleasure to share all my insider knowledge with our guests. Villa Satori's location, just a 10 minute easy walk into the heart of Ubud, is ideal for first time visitors or repeat guests to enjoy all the area has to offer. Thank you for staying with us, and we hope to welcome you again soon!

This is our second stay at lovely Villa Satori, and it was even better this time (we didn't think that was possible!) The gardens and orchids have grown so much, the outdoor living areas are lush and tropical, and the pictures do not do the villa justice. We loved falling asleep to the chorus of crickets and frogs, and we could rave forever about Wayan's cooking-especially the poached eggs on a bed of arugula with crispy shallots for breakfast. The rice field walk was our favorite thing to do, and especially enjoyed getting fresh coconuts from the friendly farmer at the little coconut stand across the path. We also had a chance to see the 3 new villas being built further down the path by the same owners. They appear to be of the same high standard as Villa Satori, and we plan to return and stay there with our entire family for a reunion next year. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Jerry! Lovely to welcome you back, and thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review. Wayan has now added your lemongrass tea to her most-requested list of drinks! We look forward to seeing you again next year, and all the best to you both.

We loved Villa Santori! Everything about it was perfect. The building, garden, pool, and setting are SPECTACULAR. The staff made our stay and transition between the villa and the airport effortless. Wayan made us a delicious breakfast each morning and kept everything immaculate. The kids enjoyed the TV set and internet access. One could not ask for a better location in Ubud. We highly recommend Villa Satori!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Julie! We were so happy to be able to take such good care of your needs (but it was a pleasure!) We look forward to welcoming you again in the near future. thanks!

My family of four (kids age 5 and 8) lived at Villa Satori for the first half of 2012. We got to know the house, ketut and wayan and ubud quite well and we felt blessed to have found Villa Satori. It was a fabulous base for our time living abroad. We could easily walk into town and yet when we came up the hill to the villa, we felt miles and miles away from the hustle and bustle of ubud. Watching the different seasons of the rice fields and getting to know the neighbors was a real treat and something we cherish. I still regularly think about Nyoman, the coconut man across the lane and wish I could get a fresh coconut or yearn for the cooking of Wayan. Ketut and Wayan took very good care of us and the house and my boys miss them both quite a lot. Having the guesthouse was great for friends and family coming to visit us. The house is very comfortable and beautiful. It is rare to find a house in Bali that is built and designed to this standard. The kitchen is up to western standards and the furniture is tasteful and comfortable (not always easy to find in Bali) We appreciated the high quality of linens, the fresh flowers, the gardens and statues, and the care and attention that has been given to making Villa Satori a real oasis. You will not be sorry if you choose Villa Satori. Please say hello to Wayan and Ketut from Rebecca and Tom.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your lovely review, and for calling Villa Satori home for 6 months. We are so happy to be a part of your lasting Bali memories. Your family made quite an impact on our local neighbors and Wayan and Ketut, and everyone sends their best. We look forward to welcoming you all back to your Bali home!

We came here for the first leg of our honeymoon. Walking up through town to the villa was the first hint there was something special. We were taken from the busy ubud town through narrow roads that opened into a gorgeous field of rice paddies. The villa is just off the road, very convenient. It's immaculate and perfect in every way. Walking upstairs to see the view of the fields, and then the rose petals with chocolate covering the bed brought me to tears(my husband videotaped it!) It was so overwhelmingly beautiful. The deck, the hammock, the yoga mats, the pool, all were used daily. The breakfasts were wonderful, wayan's dinner was great. And best of all, the massages we had on the deck were the best of our lives(and I certainly have many by which to compare). I felt more relaxed at this home than any I can remember visiting. Kasey was a delight to work with and I would love to come back, even bring friends or my family as there is enough space for several more to enjoy the beauty of this homeRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: What a lovely review, and I am so glad we were able to help create special memories on the first stop of your Honeymoon! We all wish you both the very best life has to offer, and hope you will bring your family on your next visit. Thank you for choosing Villa Satori!

Villa Satori is simply breathtaking!! Nothing we have ever stayed in at Bali (in 4 visits) could ever compare with this place. Nestled right in the rice paddies, the views all round are spectacular and you can just sit and watch the vista for ages. Wayan is the most beautiful housekeeper, always there but completely subtle. She cooked us lovely breakfasts, and at the end of our long days we would find the villa lit, mosquito nets and doors drawn, and always immaculate. The walk into Ubud takes around 15 minutes, but there is a lovely walk through the rice paddies which is cooler and very pretty. The pool and gardens are beautiful, as was the dinner Wayan prepared for us during our stay. The beds, linens and bathrooms are gorgeous. Our family of 6 were so, so comfortable. I simply did not want to leave, and hope one day to come back to this little gem :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

After a long flight we arrived at Villa Satori late at night, when we woke up the next day the only thing we could say was Wow! The house, the view, the service, the location all first class. Ubud is a lovely place made even more special by Villa Satori. A fantastic experience for all of us including three teenagersRecommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed Ubud and Villa Satori, especially the kids. There are so many great activities for families to do here...including doing absolutely nothing and enjoying our sparkling pool! We look forward to welcoming you on your next Bali adventure.

This lovely home, nestled in the rice fields, was the perfect escape from the bustling village of Ubud (only a 10 minute walk ). The villa itself was spectacular. Beautiful works of art adorned every room, all of which had unobstructed views of the rice fields. Living in the rice fields awakens all of the senses: the green terraced rice paddies are breathtaking. You can see local birds and an occasional farmer working in the fields. You can hear the birds chirping, frogs croaking, and the waterfalls trickling. You can smell the moisture in the air after a fresh rain and the tropical flowers. There were so many places to relax- a comfortable living room, three decks, all with hammocks, and a wonderful backyard with a Buddha waterfall cascading into a very large a refreshing swimming pool. The beds were very comfortable, with luxury linens, and the villa was impeccably maintained. The best part of this home is the hosts. You can tell Kasey has included so many of her personal touches. There were umbrellas when we needed them, and even yoga mats for our use. Wayan and Ketut, our local hosts were so gracious. They had the knack of always being there when we needed something, but affording us total privacy. Wayan is a wonderful cook and it was such a treat to wake up to her banana pancakes or have a home cooked dinner after a day of touring. The villa's location is perfect. You can walk everywhere- shops restaurants, and yoga class. We were busy in Ubud- cycling, hiking, shopping, and bird watching, but I could return to this home every year and just enjoy the property. Don't miss the rice field walks, the fresh coconut water, chopped while you wait, from the tree just outside the villa, or chatting with the local artists along the way. You might just find a piece of Bali to take home with you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Your lovely review is a perfect snapshot of life at Villa Satori, highlighting many things that make it so special. Life in our village moves at such an easy pace, and the serenity of our location is ideal after busy days touring all that Bali has to offer. All the best to you and your family, and thank you for choosing us!

About the owner: My husband and I have been coming to Bali for over 23 years, and got married here in a Traditional Balinese Wedding Ceremony 15 years ago. We travel 5 months a year internationally, and yearn for Bali when we are not here. There is no place else on earth where you can be so submerged in culture and so welcomed, and eat so well. We live in Lake Tahoe (Northern California/Nevada)in the summer. We will be more than happy to assist with any travel needs or recommendations! Enjoy our special place!
Why the Owner Chose Ubud:
For us, in Bali there was never a choice other than Ubud, with all its art and culture, galleries, and sensational restaurants. We fell deeply in love with the Ubud area, got involved in Rotary and working in the community, and finally found a piece of property very walkable to town and all its joys within 10 minutes. Villa Satori is the culmination of our dream and we are thrilled to share it! Should you desire beaches, they are an easy day trip.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The unobstructed views took our breath away the moment we first set foot on the property. We knew immediately that this was our perfect place. Our first night staying in the villa was pure heaven--just the right amount of breeze--and unbelievable sunrises. You can roll out of bed and be at Yoga class in two minutes, or stay home in tranquility and do nothing peacefully. Convenient to all, close enough to walk to everything, but far enough away from crowds that you can just watch Balinese life go by. Be involved as much as you wish...Balinese people are very warm and welcoming and love to share their culture and ceremonies! Sacred Mt. Agung can be seen on a clear day, as well as all 5 other mountains.
