Had a great time
Had a great time
My wife and I stayed at pirate villas from April 29th through May 13th. Jason and Maresha made us feel right at home. The pictures of the villa don't do it justice. It is nice and cozy and has beautiful views of both the reef side and lagoon side of the island. The restaurant/bar they run at the front of the property has great food and the staff are friendly. It's not the fanciest place on the island but is in a great location. For the price considering what you get it has to be one of the best values on the island. I forgot my sunglasses at home and Jason lent me a pair of his when i asked about a place to get some more. David and Naomi that work in the kitchen are awesome cooks and when your food is presented to you it looks as great as it tastes. Jason and Maresha will take care of you and help with things lie getting a golf cart or bikes and even help setup tours if you need it. All around they are both friendly laid back and help you to settle in to the laid back atmosphere of the island. I miss the place already and can't wait to go back. If i only go back for a visit I would definitely stay at pirate villas again. I really hope to relocate down there though because I had such a great time. Oh and Jason tell my buddy Chino I miss him too :)

This property was a nice change of pace from the craziness of town during Easter. The property is over the bridge which requires payment every time, but we received a pass from the owner. We were able to rent the whole property which gave the couple we were traveling with and us some privacy. It's a simple property with basic necessities, which is what we needed. Pirate Villas has a great view of the sunset which we were able to take advantage of almost every night. The owner Jason is very easy going and friendly. A bonus was having a fire ready for us in our very own backyard. We also had access to our own pool on the property. Although further from the action of town,Pirate Villas has its own restaurant with amazing wings and close to other restaurants and beaches. Overall we enjoyed the people at Pirate Villas and appreciated the hospitality. Thanks Jason, Maresha, Ebony and Chino.

The entire Pirate Villas experience was simply amazing!!! From the moment we arrived, Jason and Maresha did everything possible to make us feel at home. We arrived later in the evening, there was bottled water, sodas, and let's not forget cold beer in the fridge! They had a golf cart delivered to our front door and started on gathering information regarding diving the blue hole that very next day. We were given access to the restaurant WiFi and I was able to call back home no problem. The staff was amazing and very friendly, going out of there way and even built us two amazing bonfires :-) Amazing location all s short golf cart ride into town main San Pedro. Jason and Maresha even provided us with a bridge pass to make things easier. Chilled out atmosphere on the north end of the bridge, great breeze, and for those extremely hot days, the A/C kicked in beautifully. On our last day they gave us an island send off that let's just say was extremely rough going the following morning...lol You guys rock!! Thanks for making our vacation so great, showing us the island life and making us feel like family!! Much love and all the best guys. If you're ever up in Montreal don't hesitate to look us up. We'll show you the Montreal way :-) Jon, Jimmy, and Owen Montreal, Canada

We were 2 couples and the house is just perfect for 4. Lots of space, big kitchen, fun pool and super good beds (very important). Everything was clean and functional. Marisha and Jason helped us on everything we needed such as organize day trips or cooking up self catched fish etc. We really enjoyed our stay and the company of all staff at Pirates Treasure Restaurant&Bar, you guys made us feel like family. The Food you guys cook up is the bomb and by far the best on the Island, thanks to Noemi and Marisha. We can recommend the place to everyone who likes to live the real Island life away from any hassle and mass tourism. We'll be back for the yearly sunday night shootout annual :-)

Good and Not
Good and Not
Jason and Mareesha were super nice and friendly. Food was tasty but it seemed like all dishes had pretty much the same flavor, portions small compared to elsewhere. We had what could have been a major injury ( missed it by less than 2mins , the lean to sun shade made of wood fell down and would have seriously injured one of us . We feel that no real concern was given, which also limited what we could have enjoyed around the house.ie deck and up stairs hammocks,Not even a sincere apology. We have waited for some sort of one before writing this, nothing it's been 2weeks

Owner response: Sorry that the wooden shade broke down, we couldn't predict that. We apologized in person, said sorry, We don't understand what else you expected, a free meal, which by the way you never tipped our staff a penny and you ate at our restaurant like 3 times. We went and bought your groceries (out of our busy schedule) at no cost just to mention, I guess our time and gas wasn't worth anything. Lent you a fishing rod free of charge. We made phone calls for you, free. You used one of my staff's cell phone, didn't even give her a dollar. I guess the thanks you said to her wasn't sincere like our apology. We also said we would get it fixed the very next day but you did not want, because you wanted your privacy so we cleaned it up immediately and we are currently fixing it. Also there was a hammock on the third floor which you could have used. It's snobby people like you that make us not want to be in the rental business. I believe all this came about because you wanted to shorten your stay the minute you arrived, didn't even step foot in the villa but we wouldn't give you a refund and you decided to stay.
WE LOVED IT!!!
WE LOVED IT!!!
Our experience at Pirate Villas was awesome!!! It is on the very mellow northern side of the island just a short bike ride to the city center of San Pedro. This is one of the few houses that get a terrific breeze. The view from the roof top balcony is spectacular. Very close to all the natural beauty Ambergris Caye has to offer...the lagoon, the carribean, the reef and cool bars and restaurants. Jason and Maresha were awesome hosts! They taught us a lot about the island and culture, they even showed us how to make a coconut husk BBQ for BBQ ribs. We would definitely go back!!! Steve & Katie Gregg Pacifica, CA

"Luxurious - NOT!" Far Below Expectations - Can't recommend.
We had the lower unit for 4 wks. Can't figure why so many great reviews. We're not hard to please but we expect things to be in good repair & of decent quality when paying this price! Arrived early evening - no drinking water, bed sheets in dryer. Jason (J) said he'd get us 5-gal water. Didn't 'til late next day. We made the bed. When booking, asked about internet. J said "in the bodega, but will be in house when you arrive". It wasn't & no apology. This was important to us. We had to sit on an upturned bucket by the bodega, or go to a local bar for access. No toaster or microwave. Cooling/heating functions on water dispenser don't work.Coffee maker works, but not the keep-warm element. Nothing to boil water for tea. Asked J to get us a kettle, he said 'use a cooking pot'. The teflon lining was grease-soaked & made the boiled water taste awful so we bought a kettle. Took it along when we left! Assortment of plates, plastic bowls, etc was minimal & some had big chunks out. Only 3 plastic glasses & 3 mugs. (Don't even think about having a couple of guests for the evening!) Nothing to store leftovers, important due to our long stay & plans to do our own cooking in 'fully equipped kitchen'. Much of the cutlery was rusty! Only 1 decent bread knife. Nothing else with which to cut/chop food. No garlic press. Can opener didn't work (bought 1 of those, too). A shelf missing in the fridge, reduced storage space by 1/3. Cupboard under sink was full of junk, insect poison, pool chemicals & old liquor bottles. Shower grout is heavily mildewed. Curtain is completely rotted away at bottom.Towels are well-used & mis-matched. Bedroom-nowhere to hang clothes, only a sm. plastic drying rack over the dryer. Nowhere other than the floor to put suit cases. Bed's okay. Living room sofa is ridiculously uncomfortable. Wooden, built in place- back at 90 deg. to seat. Cushions so thin it's like sitting on concrete & half are split open. Lighting is awful.Reading & washing dishes is v. difficult after dark. No glass in windows. Everything feels damp and smells musty due to the high humidity.. We had almost a week of cool weather, high wind, and rain.Had to huddle in blankets to keep warm all day. With the shutters closed to keep the wind out it was like a dungeon! No one ever tested the pool chemicals. Just threw stuff in when it looked too green. Tried to vacuum it with little effect. There are 2 hammocks, but no hooks to hang them on lower level. Much more to say - no space left!

Owner response: First off, I am sitting in the bedroom of the villa replying to this comment, on the internet. What I can't seem to figure out is your wife hates the wind as she repeatedly stated and you guys chose to vacation in the Caribbean, on an island half mile infront the world's second largest barrier reef. Secondly, we do not provide drinking water as we do not provide your groceries. The supermarket in five mins walkng distance. Sorry we do not have an iron chef kitchen with garlic press, but I know for sure we have plenty cooking utensils to prepare meals. The toaster is next to the coffee maker that works (thanks for the burn on my finger) which I am sure you could have used to make your tea. Our refigerator has all shelves it came with when purchased brand new. I believe most people keep thier cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink, which you could have used to clean the shower once a week to prevent mildew since you were here for a month & did not want maid service, by the way the grout is black not white turned black. Our lighting is dim for a relaxing mood, you could have atleast ask us to change them for you instead of giving the silent treatment and expect us assume you needed higher lighting or what ever else you are complaining about. Our villa was designed with an island feel, without glass in windows for better air flow. You would have had more space to make more false comments if you would have posted your complaints about the weather on the National Weather Burea's Website. I mean, really, you felt cold here in the tropics and you both had to huddle all day in blankets on your vacation, aren't you from Canada where it gets below zero? Not because a pool test kit is in the villa means we do not have another to use so we do not bother you. Sorry you didn't see us testing it, I am starting to think you guys have visual problems. Our bed is just okay, what do you sleep on? It's not rocket science to put up a hammock without hooks, most guests seem to know how to, or they ask. Once again if you had communicated I guarantee you would have not a word to say especially since EVERYDAY we asked you both is everything okay, or you need anything?? People like you chose to be unhappy and I prefer to not rent my villa to people like you. We live on property, always make our guests feel at home, and always make sure our guests get what they want. Our villa is new and well kept up, we rent 80% booking and this is the second guests of all to leave unhappy.
A GREAT PIECE OF PARADISE
A GREAT PIECE OF PARADISE
Thank you Jason and Maresha. It was a truly nice stay. You guys were welcoming, friendly and went out of your way to make sure we were comfortble. I love the two hammocks on the second floor, its a great place to take a nap as the island breeze sways you to sleep. Your Villa was clean, neat and very comfortable. The plunge pool was bigger in person and a great place to loung with a drink in hand. The towels and linen were top notch and the bedding also. I dont know what the guy below was ranting about. I slept in both beds and can honestly say they were both comfortable. LOL. There were no mosquitos at all! We will be back and i have already shared this great find with friends and family who are interested. In short; The listing was accurat in regards to the location. The photos were accurate. The building appeared exactly as it is portrayed in photos and discription. A+ on the cleanliness of the building. ( I thinK the sand was even raked, becasue that was some perfect looking sand. lol) The owners gave accurate information on surrounding areas and restaurants. I have told everyone about this place. Akbol was great for breakfast and had a swing over the water, Elvis Kitchen had great Tacos and Free Wi-Fi. Cholo's golf cart was very friendly and hospitable.

A Special Place on Ambergris
A Special Place on Ambergris
Well, we've arrived home from our short stay in paradise and are already dreaming of returning to Ambergris Caye. We stayed at Pirate Villas during our Spring Break and it was the perfect set up for two couples! The sunsets from the roof are amazing and the trade winds keep the villa nice and cool. Once you travel across the bridge you find a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere that seems like you are a million miles away from the stress of the states. The highlights of the villa are the plunge pool, the sunsets, the private location, and the bonfire. Oh, and PIRATE. How could anyone forget the playful puppy that lives on the property and visits from time to time? The manager is close enough to provide assistance but far enough to allow you ample privacy. We were lucky enough to eat a BBQ meal prepared by Maresha and Jason and it was fantastic. Ignore the uptight review below. If you want the Four Seasons, stay there. I can't believe that anyone could give this villa a poor rating. You are in Central America. There are mosquitos, lizards and rain. That is what makes it so fun and so special. Get in your cart and explore, the location is the perfect distance from town to feel secluded but still have access to conveniences. Try the local places up and down the road. Ak'bol has very good food and is reasonably priced with great views. Palapa is the a touristy place, but is still a good time and worth visiting. If you are interested in any tours have Maresha set them up for you. She got us an amazing deal! Overall a great time and can't wait to go back.
