Fresh Creek house boat description
Sunset Point Houseboat is a favourite spot for those who seek peaceful relaxation and fishing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, kayaking, birding with the great feeling of being away from it all. In reality far from the madding crowd!
The houseboat has three bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate six persons.
This unique wooden two storey houseboat has two ensuite bedrooms upstairs, a king sized ensuite studio bedroom downstairs, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge, breakfast bar, dining and social area. The houseboat has decks on three sides, providing space for easy lounging, fishing, sunbathing, shade seeking, sunset admiring and midnight star gazing.
The studio bedroom is a large room sitting above high tide, it has a king size bed, with crisp cotton sheets and sliding glass windows overlooking the creek. Through one windows in the studio is a private screened in porch with sturdy wooden adirondack styled chairs, and the other double glass window opens onto the large deck which runs the length of the house and contains loungers, chairs, and a picnic table, this is a great outdoor spot to enjoy the beauty of the view, go fishing and watch the spectacular sunsets.
Also downstairs in the houseboat is the lounge and kitchen, both of which have the large double glass windows which allow the breeze to cool the house and provide maximum views of the creek. The lounge has a couch and a table with chairs. The room opens onto a deck where, in the afternoon, the shade is deep and the breezes constant.
A long breakfast bar separates the lounge from the kitchen / dining area and the easy bar style stools provide a classic spot to work or play with nothing but beauty all around.
The kitchen is well equipped with stove, fridge, water cooler, pots, pans, cutlery and dishes, it has a table with chairs, and a couch for relaxing by the beautiful creekside. The kitchen has a large double glass sliding window and a glass door leading to the deck. Here you will be able to prepare your meals and enjoy the view of the creek at the same time. The fishermen can provide the fresh fish straight from the creek to the plate.
The long deck is the perfect spot to sunbathe, and a great place to securely moor a boat. Here steps lead down into the creek so that you can quickly immerse yourself in the soothing healing tidal waters of Fresh Creek. The old folks of Andros say that bathing in the out going tide is the best remedy for taking away the aches and pains of life and revitalizing the body in the mineral rich out going tide which draws the tiredness from the body. Swimming from the houseboat is refreshing and snorkeling will reveal the critters who inhabit this area. Under the houseboat it is possible to spend a happy time watching the amazing array of reef fishes who live beneath the house.
A spiral staircase curls upstairs where there are two large bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms and creekside views. The Master bedroom has a king sized bed and sliding glass doors with a private balcony to sit on while watching out for incoming fish, this vantage view of the creek allows the watcher to help the fisherman cast in the right direction.
The second upstairs bedroom has twin beds, an ensuite bathroom, creekside views and is safe for children.
The houseboat was named Sunset Point due to the spectacular sunsets we get in this part of the world, amazingly every one is different and the view of the sunsetting against the water with a myriad of colours ranging from pinks to oranges to deep blues to rich black silhouetted trees along the coastlines are inspriing to behold.
The house is decorated in the lovely island prints of Androsia a local batik factory, the bedding is 100 % cotton, there is a barbecue grill located on the adjacent land.
Sunset Point Houseboat is the perfect island getaway from it all spot.

We spent almost 4 weeks on the Houseboat, three weeks by myself, with my girlfriend coming to enjoy the last week. Not only can I say I have zero complaints, it will go down as to this point my most enjoyable stay anywhere. All the reviews that I read giving high ratings are accurate, but it is almost impossible to describe the beauty of Fresh Creek in a review. I highly recommend spending as much time talking with Gabrielle and Peter as you can, as Peter's knowledge of the island, the Bahamas in general, and Fresh Creek specifically is no less than amazing. My only regrets were not ordering off the menu Peter and Gabrielle provide earlier, as I waited until my girlfriend came, which was a mistake, as Peter is also an amazing cook. I would suggest letting him pick the dinner if you do, it will not disappoint. The bonefishing is excellent, and available right off the deck if you want, with wadeable and poleable flats less than 200 yards away across the creek. The amount of sea life in around and under the Houseboat is stunning, you can snorkel 2 steps from your bedroom. I rented a boat and a car for my entire stay, if I had to choose only one it would have been the boat, as you can explore the miles of the blue waters of the creek, be out to the reef in the ocean in 10 minutes, or tie up to Hank's place for dinner and a beer and be back at the Houseboat in 5 minutes. One of the most secluded and beautiful beaches is a short ride via bicycle, as is the town of Fresh Creek. Anything you need, whether car rentals, kayak rentals, directions, etc. is easily arranged through Gabrielle. The island itself is so large and so sparsely populated that you could spend months and not see everything. Like almost every other out island the grocery shopping can be a bit tricky, but I never had any trouble getting what I needed. Furthermore, being able to have Gabrielle or Peter help you find what you need is invaluable. I can not say enough how much I enjoyed my time here, and what amazing hosts Peter, Gabrielle, and their whole family were.

Magical Journey Back to the Island!
Magical Journey Back to the Island!
Sunset Point Houseboat is one of the most magical places on earth! Having had the good fortune of living on Andros in the late 80’s early 90’s my connection to the houseboat and it’s wonderful owners began many years ago. When their family lived in the houseboat, the last home to the west up the beautiful tidal creek, Fresh Creek, they often invited me for dinner and conversation over the most incredibly colorful and tranquil sunsets I have ever experienced. We also enjoyed observing the abundant wildlife that inhabits the creek...dolphins frolicking in the tides, bonefish tailing on the flats and birds in flight returning to their nearby mangrove roosts. Over the years the owners have lovingly cared for the houseboat renovating it, after moving into their new home, with great thought to preserve its charm while best accommodating guests. They have also worked diligently to protect the island’s precious natural resources by gathering supporters at the grass-roots level and establishing a non-profit conservation organization. In partnership with other conservation organizations they were instrumental in the government's designation of 5 national parks on Andros, the country’s largest protected area. Andros, the largest of the Bahamian islands yet the least developed, remains one of the most pristine marine and terrestrial habitats in the world. I recently returned to Andros with friends from the states. We stayed in the lovely houseboat and the delightful owners were so good to us...making sure we were settled in with everything we needed to begin our holiday. It was very peaceful with plenty of time to relax on the creek, yet filled with exciting adventures. We fished up the creek, snorkeled on the reef and explored the cays bringing home stories to share over the amazing sunsets. Visiting the local batik factory to see the artisans creating the beautiful fabrics and shopping the boutique for handmade gifts was a treat. We took great pleasure in the sweet Bahamian people and their delicious fresh seafood fare. Cycling to picnic and walk low tide when the white sand beach reaches far into the vibrant, blue green sea was special too. Our most significant discovery was the treasured conservation headquarters where we became contributing members to help protect the island. We hope to journey back to the island and stay at the houseboat for a magical holiday every year!

This was our first visit to the Andros Islands and one of the best vacations we experienced. The houseboat was loaded with all the necessities but above all, very clean and well maintained. We were greeted by the homeowners who were welcoming and accommodating to any requests. The houseboat is surrounded by beautiful blue water and the best sunset you will ever experience. Fishing, snorkeling, diving or just relaxing on the panaromic floating home was the perfect vacation for us. I would recommend this piece of paradise to everyone. Oh, and yes, we are returning again this year. Loretta Reiss Wildwood Crest, NJ

Out Island Paradise
Out Island Paradise
My family of 4 (kids 10 and 12) have been to Eleuthera, Exuma, Cat, Long and of course Grand and Nassau. Our favorite out island was Eleuthera but it is starting to get crowded for an out island. Eleuthera is still an amazing island but Andros is even better. If you like fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, sunbathing, star gazing right off the deck of your house, this is the place for you. There is no one around so we had many of the beaches and the blue hole all to ourselves. Groceries are limited but you'll still eat. Order dinner from Pete, you won't be disappointed. My husband is a bonefisherman and he nailed them out on the Joulters Cayes. The next day the entire family went and the kids caught over 20 fish. Keith R out of North Andros is the best guide ever, seriously. We have spent money on many guides in the Bahamas and elsewhere and he is superb. The Joulters Cayes are not to be missed as well. Definitely rent a car so you can explore the island. Gabrielle can arrange it for you. My kids only complaint is the the bathroom water does have a sulfur smell to it. They got used to it and exclaimed we'll just bring air freshner next time! If you're an all-inclusive big hotel type of person, this house and island is not for you. Go for the solitude, beauty and adventure.

About the owner: Peter and Gabrielle Douglas have been running Sunset Point Houseboat since 2006. 'It is a great little business for the island as it allows us to meet interesting people from all over the globe while providing them with a wonderful vacation.' Peter operates the 'Outside kitchen', a restaurant which delivers right to the Houseboat. The menu is all about fresh sea food and delicious is one word which describes the qualtiy and taste.
Why the Owner Chose Fresh Creek:
The houseboat used to be located in the Miami River, Florida and came to Andros in 1969. It is reported that the last time the metal swing of the Fresh Creek bridge was opened was when they allowed the houseboat to go through and then the key was lost.
The Unique Benefits at this House Boat:
Peter and Gabrielle bought this houseboat in 1989 and lived here for 14 years, raising their family. When the time to move out came around we knew that this was a great opportunity to share this remarkable wooden houseboat with the world, we know what an amazing place this is and how peaceful one can feel listening to the unceasingly gentle sounds of the ocean.
