Thank you to all of our guests for making our award-winning place so popular! We agree with you, 'There is no other place like it in Shawnee.' Winter ski season is here--so book early for the best dates. Shawnee Mt. is just down the road for skiing, tubing, and snow boarding (30% discount available). Guests say they love the cozy and clean 'cabin' feel and relaxing by the fireplace and surrounding amber lite snow trails. Couples may want to go to Pocono Palace (just three miles away) for evening dancing and comedy shows or enjoy the two-person whirlpool tub with two spa robes. Families, for example, may want to visit Budda Popcorn on River Road to see how gourmet popcorn is made or visit the Lakota Wolf Preserve, three miles from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a 70,000-acre park preserve 40 miles along the Delaware River. With fall/winter here, gals and guys get-a-ways mean you could just come to relax and sit by the fireplace or shop at The Crossings Discount Outlets or go gamble at the near-by Mt. Airy Casino or take a brisk hike at Bushkill Falls. It's also time for wildlife viewing, antiquing, or eating. It's nature at its best up here--quiet, rustic, and fun. From the private back deck, enjoy views of the ski mountains. Northslope II guests have access to the indoor pool, spa, and golf discount at the Shawnee Inn, and a discount at Shawnee Ski in the winter. There is also tennis, playground, and outdoor pool to enjoy during the summer at Sun Mountain, our private community recreational area. Northslope II is across from Shawnee Mountain where monthly festivals and concerts take place in the fall and skiing, snow boarding, and snow tubing take place in the winter. Buskhill Falls and Fernwood are a short drive away.
Townhome Description: Let me start by saying that we are asked this all the time: yes, the town home looks like the pictures you see! This upscale, green-built, end-unit town home was decorated by an award-winning designer and featured in New York's 'House Magazine.' The home's charm is created by its cozy fireplace, comfortable Amish and Pennsylvania House furnishings, antiques, whimsical bear art, and rustic cedar accents. The traditional and vintage decor is mixed with many modern features: two-person whirlpool spa room with his-and-her spa robes and linens; 40-inch Sharp 'Aquos' television in the Great Room; WiFi, and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.
Relaxation Details: The Dining Room and Great Room each comfortably seat six people. For those who wish to cook, the fully-equipped kitchen opens to the Dining Room and Great Room, so you can prepare meals, wash dishes, or throw away paper plates while being able to socialize with your guests.
Sleeping Details: There's a new, king-size, extra-high mattress in the second floor Master Suite. Guests seem to really like the mattresses and pillows--conducive for good sleeping. The first floor bedroom has an adjacent full bathroom and two new twin beds with extra-high mattresses that can easily convert to a king bed. Enjoy a queen-size sleeper sofa in the loft; a new, 32-inch Sharp 'Aquos' television; a working desk; and a separate, private entrance to the full bathroom.
Additional Details: Yes, this is perfect for business retreats, college reunions, shopping at the famous Crossings Premium Outlets with the girls, golfing at The Shawnee Inn with the boys, couples Bushkill Falls hiking and birding get-a-ways, wedding guests, honeymoons, and family gatherings.
Miscellaneous Details: For those not familiar with Shawnee, it is a four-season resort--you can enjoy nature at its best, but also experience fine dining, outlet shopping, day spas, golfing, antiquing, fly fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, gambling or just pamper yourself and do nothing! Conveniently located off Route 80 and only 70 miles from NYC, you won't find traffic at Shawnee, and you can easily access all the major attractions. During the winter even if you don't ski, it sure is fun to watch a crackling fireplace, view the amber-lit ski trails filled with snow, see the forest and mountains from the deck, and just return to a more relaxed state of mind.
And finally, the house is always stocked with candy, household supplies, books, music, DVD's, and board games, so come play checkers or have a board game tournament. Since we work very hard to maintain 'Second Chance Cabin' as a unique vacation destination, we think you will find it feels like a home-away-from-home!

We really enjoyed our stay in Bear Retreat. Close to the slopes, well equipped with comfy beds and a very relaxed atmosphere. Really appreciated the quick clean up after an overnight snow, where the road and sidewalks were cleared before we left for the slopes.Owner response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay! Come back soon for another fun visit! Nancie

The townhouse was very clean and very well maintained. The kitchen has anything you could possibly need and the beds are super comfortable. We were impressed with all of the little touches like having blankets to use while in the living room and the games. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and we will absolutely be staying again!Owner response: Hi Naomi, We are so glad that you and "the girls" had a wonderful time at our vacation home. We work so hard to make everything even better than staying at a hotel--clean, updated, and inviting. We hope you and the girls will come back again! All the best! Nancie

Fantastic home with thoughtful touches in every nook and cranny. Perfect location for using as a base to do activities in the area or just for getting away and staying in (we did both during our stay). Great communications and competitive pricing. We will definitely be returning next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: We work very hard to keep our vacation home looking perfect for our guests. We have a great housekeeper who works hard to keep everything clean and spend lots of time doing laundry too! We update bedding every season and even decorate for all the holidays to ensure our guests have a fun stay no matter when they decide to spend time with us. Thank you for the positive response! Nancie

All the comforts of home can be found here! Everything from the King size bed to the flat screen Tv's make you feel like you're in a luxury townhouse. Plenty of towels, pillows, blankets and paper products (in case you forget anything!). The furnishings and decorations are wonderful and make you feel like you are in a real cabin! We enjoyed being able to go to the pool too, as it was pretty hot the last couple of days. The wireless internet was a plus, as we were able to bring our small laptop to research places to go and easily get directions and phone numbers. Went to dinner a couple of nights at the Gem & Keystone. Try the wing night (Wednesday) and the burgers! This was our first experience renting thru Vrbo and are very happy that we did. The location was perfect for hiking the nearby waterfalls and canoe rentals. We also went to the Lakota Wolf Preserve, which we would not have know about, had it not been for this listing. Also, thanks to Nancie for help with the alarm when we first got there. She was only a phone call away! A wonderful "home away from home!"Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad you had a great time! Since your stay, we have added a big binder filled with literature describing over 50 different attractions, including the Pocono Environmental Education Center that offers a variety of low-cost activities for families.

Hello Nancie, The only problem we had with the vacation was the fact we did not go out as much as we wished simply because your home was so amazing. From the set up to your brilliant decorations, your home was truly the getaway vacation we were looking for. We had a very hard time leaving and cannot wait to come back. I really want to thank you for letting us stay. We do not have enough words to describe the peacefulness we felt. Thank you once again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

We had a great time! The house was perfect! We have been renting houses for 25 years and you made it really easy, especially with the linens and towels, etc. The key access was great so we had no pressure on when to arrive. We left last night so the kids could get back to college and we could get to work. The weather was perfect for golf every day. Thanks again we look forward to returning.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Thank you so much for allowing my family to stay in your home. We all had so much fun. We have been coming to Shawnee for four years and have stayed in a lot of not so nice condos. When I saw your place on line, I was so excited your home looked so perfect. When we arrived, we immediately felt right at home. We all appreciated the attention to details: games, books, videos, fireplace, etc. I could fill the page with everything you have done to make your guests feel comfortable. Thanks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I love history and the great outdoors, which is why my family purchased a vacation property in Historic Shawnee. The Shawnee Indians lived here; high tea was celebrated on verandas; Jackie Gleason enjoyed his golf at the Shawnee Inn, and let's not forget all the famous people, including artists, who live in Shawnee--a quiet understated place to live, play, and vacation!
Why the Owner Chose Shawnee on Delaware:
Shawnee is surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Range by the Delaware Water Gap to the Shawnee Mountain Ski/Water Park. People are friendly, life is slower, and the different ethnic restaurants are divine. The Shawnee General Store should not be missed as it is a place stepped back in time. If you are looking for bagels--they are not to be found. Instead, try a big country breakfast at the various diners where you will find many of the locals.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
At 'Second Chance Cabin' you will find a five-foot high, hand-carved, wooden bear named Ed who will greet you in the Great Room. He watches over all who visit! Everyone enjoys signing the guest book and leaves lots of good stories. If you really enjoy your stay, photographs of your fun times can be mailed in and put on display in the house so that when you return it will feel like your home-away-from-home. Eating is always the order of the day when in Shawnee and old-fashion penny candy can always be found somewhere in the cabin.
