Guanaja cabin description
VISIT US at wilmontbayretreat dot com
This is our family's retreat from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. It is a place to enjoy seclusion and peace. There are no roads on our side of Guanaja, only trails and boats. Our 'front yard' is the Caribbean. Reefs surround us on both sides and the barrier reef is about a kilometer away.
The scenic beauty is breathtaking. The reefs teem with life - tropical fish, eels, rays, sea turtles and nurse shark. The waters are clear, blue and pristine. One simply grabs a mask and snorkel and heads out -- no long boat rides to get there. The serenity and peaceful seclusion extends beyond the beach to include the surrounding trails.
Since we are located on the west side of Guanaja, we are blessed with some spectacular sunsets. Come join us.

One Of A Kind Vacation
One Of A Kind Vacation
If you're looking for a relaxing, peaceful retreat with amazing views, but also looking for some adventure, you're in luck! By far the best vacation I've ever been on. The adventure begins as soon as the small plane takes off from Roatan to take you to Guanaja. When you land, you'll be greeted by a boat that will take you to Wilmont Bay, as there are no cars on the islands. The food was amazing, the sights were amazing, and it is the perfect spot for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life (cars, technology, work). Although I stayed as a guest of the owner, I can assure you that the other reviews are spot-on! Like most of the guests, we went diving, fishing, snorkeling, and took the boat ride to "Town" to get groceries. The different wildlife around the cabins are pretty cool too! They have three green parrots that fly around the property and you can hear them chattering and talking. It is really exciting just to sit on the porch with a cold drink and watch the sun go down. Last but not least, Cindy is really an exceptional host! She will make sure you have an awesome experience! Enjoy!

Relaxing Remote Getaway at Wilmont Bay
Relaxing Remote Getaway at Wilmont Bay
We spent 2 weeks at Wilmont Bay during our honeymoon and were not disappointed! The adventure of getting to the island and then to the lovely bay (by air, by boat) added to the allure of this idyllic Caribbean spot. We received tremendous hospitality from our hostess, Cindy, and throughout our stay she went out of her way to ensure we had a wonderful trip, from helping arrange diving and hiking, to pre-stocking the fridge in our well-appointed, clean, & comfortable cabin with necessary goodies, and introducing us to the addictive Zambo's plantain chips. The animals on the property, particularly the chickens, geese, parrots, and "grobos" add to the classic Caribbean Island feel. Snorkeling was definitely a highlight, which we did every day right from the beach, spotting everything from brightly coloured reef fish and gorgeous healthy corals and gorgonians, to moray eels, squid, octopus, and even nurse sharks! We also couldn't get enough of the fresh fruits, both from market day on Bonacca (which was a very cool experience) and the gardens on the property (loved the fresh apple bananas and pineapple). We caught a few fish, both trolling and bottom-fishing with a neighbour, although we are told October is the best month for fishing. Bo's Island House is worth a visit for a local lunch, as is the waterfall not too far from his property. Overall, a fantastic trip. We highly recommend this retreat!

Best Honeymoon Spot
Best Honeymoon Spot
My husband and I decided on Wilmont Bay, Guanaja for our honeymoon. It was the best choice we could've made! We were blown away by the natural beauty from the minute we saw the island from our descent on the airplane. The clear blue waters and rich green terrain highlighted Guanaja’s beautiful landscape and peacefulness. Once arriving at Wilmont Bay, we couldn’t believe our eyes! The bay was pristine, and nestled behind the rich vegetation were a couple cabins for guests. After being greeted by Cindy, we instantly felt welcomed and comfortable. She showed us to our cabin, which was perfect for a couple. The kitchen was stocked with food we’d requested, which was so nice to make it to our final destination and instantly begin to unwind. The next few days on the island were some of the most enjoyable moments of our lives. We spent the mornings cooking and drinking coffee on the porch, in the afternoons we’d go snorkeling or kayaking, and in the evenings we spent time with Cindy. She was a wonderful host and quite an amazing cook too! It was fun to hear about her family’s stories of the island over the past 20 years. We felt comforted in knowing we were staying with someone who was very knowledgeable about Guanaja as well. It was like having our own tour guide who showed us the best places to kayak, snorkel, and also took us out on her boat for a trip into town and to a nearby key for lunch. She also helped us with our plane tickets, travel routes and money exchanges throughout the trip. We would recommend Wilmont Bay to anyone wanting to relax and “getaway” from the stress and fast-paced environment so many of us live in. The only regret we have is not staying longer! We already miss the island, but we look forward to our next trip to Guanaja sometime soon!

We just returned from the most incredible time at Wilmont Bay. Cindy was a perfect host, always available to accommodate our requests, answer our questions, organize excursions, etc.). We were greeted with fresh coconuts when we arrived, and continued to be delighted by every aspect of our experience. First, and most importantly, the snorkeling around the bay was some of the best we have ever experienced, and we have snorkeled all over the world. The reefs are vibrantly alive and full of color, and there are so many fish it is amazing. We saw an enormous ray as well. The property is immaculate and gorgeous, lush with tropical flowers. There are also the most wonderful animals on the property that gave it so much character...a hilarious parrot that would fly out and spend the afternoons on the dock with us, a sweet cat that loved to nap on our porch, Angel the guardian dog, chickens and geese, and baby chicks everywhere. These animals brought us so many laughs. The house has everything you will need, and was very comfortable. We love to cook and found the kitchen to be well stocked. Cindy took our grocery requests before we arrived, so we showed up to a full fridge, which was such a treat! She also let us join her for a trip to town to get more groceries later in our stay, which was a cultural experience in itself that I would highly recommend! The hiking right off the property is beautiful with panoramic views in all directions. We spent our days lounging on the incredible dock over the water...pinching ourselves because it was so beautiful! We couldn't have picked a better location for our vacation! Thank you Cindy and Wilmont Bay!

Couldn't have planned a better vacation.

Just getting to Wilmont Bay is an adventure in itself. The best way to describe our vacation is visiting old friends we hadn't met yet. During our almost 2 weeks, Cindy and Charles were wonderful hosts. If we desired, we were included in many of their daily routines. Such as visiting other parts of the islands and meeting both ex pats and locals. Just learning about living on this remote island was fascinating. As all the others have said, the cabin is perfect, the amenities are all right out the front door, from fishing off the dock, to snorkeling, beach combing, kayaking, to just reading on your porch. Words can't begin to describe the views. The caretaker, Jorge, took us on a boat ride and hike to the waterfalls, which were beautiful and refreshing. The only downside I can mention is the trash that washes up in some of the beach areas. I personally witnessed a local tossing plastic pop bottles and potato chip bags into the ocean. Cindy and Charles keep Wilmont Bay pristine, unfortunately they can't maintain the entire island and trash in various areas detracted from the scenery. We hope to visit Wilmont Bay again.

"Retreat" is the perfect name!
"Retreat" is the perfect name!
My family and I have been hearing tales of the beauty and peaceful setting in Guanaja for many years but -- even still – we were unprepared for how truly regenerating it is to step back from the world in such a paradise. Far away from the bustle of daily life, the sound of water lapping at the shore is soothing, and a fitting contrast to the teeming action and bright color immediately beneath the surface, on the coral reef. Naming the place a “retreat” is certainly accurate. Adding an air of relaxation to our trip, as well, was the fact that our hostess was very knowledgeable, and totally prepared and helpful in every aspect. Having asked us in advance about our entertainment and food preferences – we found that there were many things prearranged, stocked and waiting for us. There was fresh produce and fresh fish supplied in abundance from the locals – unbelievably flavorful and enjoyable. We also noted that everything we wanted or needed for fun was available – from snorkeling equipment, to the use of a boat and driver for a tour of the local landmarks and miles of beachfront. As we traveled home, we learned from a fellow traveler at the airport, that this was not the case where he had vacationed, so we knew we had been in good hands. We were quite grateful to have been in the care of someone with years of experience and many local friends. And, speaking of friends – the local population was gracious and friendly in every way – and we were treated as guests, not tourists – adding a bit of old-world enjoyment for us, in discovering what is the REAL Caribbean life must be like. We will return!

My partner and I spent one much too short week at Wilmont Bay this past spring. We had been on Roatan for a week prior to our arrival, yet the moment we landed on Guanaja, we knew we were some place very special. Pulling up to the dock we were greeted by two of the sweetest pups who would become our steadfast guardians and playmates for the rest of our stay. The cottage is adorable and perfectly appointed. We cooked delicious meals every night, often using the coconuts, mangoes and breadfruit found on the property. Cindy and her son, Rory, who happened to be visiting, were wonderful, gracious hosts. Rory let us tag along on his trip to "town", showed us around, introduced us to locals, and went diving with my partner. We were invited to join Cindy and Rory for dinner on our first night and were made to feel like old friends. The property is breathtaking as were the coral reefs and the thousands of fish we saw. Just out our front door was the best snorkeling we've ever encountered. We snorkeled for hours on end and were never bored (or cold!). Just off our dock we saw an 8-10 ft nurse shark, spotted eagle rays, turtles, lobster, king crab, grouper ..... the list is never ending. If you dream of white sand, blue waters, lush tropical gardens, solitude, and the road less traveled, then Wilmont Bay is the place for you. We can't wait to book our next trip!

peaceful is the word that i would use to describe wilmont bay retreat. we enjoyed our entire time there. without leaving the property, you can snorkel, swim, kayak, fish and hike. or just relax if you prefer. the cabin porch is a great place to unwind. the simple cabin is well appointed. it is the true meaning of "less is more." the property is beautifully landscaped. the owners are great people. you can pre-arrange a grocery list so that the kitchen will be stocked upon arrival. don't forget to plan a meal of your very own freshly caught fish. cindy was great help with air flights, fishing trips and any other needs and/or wants you may have. the owner's pets offered nice companionship if you start to miss your furry/feathered friends at home. can't wait to return.

Lots of Fun
Lots of Fun
I stayed there for a little over 2 weeks. This place was wonderful; there was never a moment where there were not plenty of fun things to do. The water was clear and there were lots of awesome snorkeling and diving spots. I could have spent the entire time just doing those two things and we could have gone to a new place every day. Also, there were kayaks that you could take out and paddle all over the place on or just play in the waves with. The hiking trails are amazing. Some took you along beautiful beaches and over hills that let you look at the whole island. My personal favorite was one that we went on after a day of diving. It was located further inland. You walked along next to this cute fresh water stream, with lots of awesome trees providing lots of shade. Then the trail ended at this amazing waterfall. Another one of my favorite activities was fishing. We caught tons of tuna but there were all kinds of fishing in the area. The cool thing was at the end of the day we got to have amazing tuna steaks. The house we stayed in was beautiful and the cabin was gorgeous as well, the owner went out of her way all the time to make everyone else happy. She made this amazing coconut pie and took us shopping in the little town. It was a cool experience and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to get off the beaten path and outdoor activities.

My husband and I were guests at this cabin for three weeks. Coming from California, the trip there and back was not exactly quick and easy but that's what makes Guanaja so special, there are hardly any tourists. Our hostess Cindy was adept at assisting with our traveling arrangements then made sure we were comfortable in our simple, cozy cabin. We felt safe and were grateful for her knowledge of the area and willingness to help us see as much of this island as we could. The description in this listing was extremely accurate, we snorkeled every day in Wilmont Bays thriving reef and saw eagle rays, nurse sharks, turtles and spotted eels, and vibrant colorful coral we'd never seen before. Jorge, the caretaker of the property, was also very helpful and became an impromptu and fun tour guide. His wife also makes killer tortillas. Mostly we just relaxed at Wilmont bay, the property is lush and well maintained and has delightful resident animals plus a dock and viewing deck. But must-sees are Michaels Rock, Southwest Cay, Savannah Bight and Mangrove Bight, and of course Bonnaca town. We were sad to leave but have many cherished memories and photos.
