Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Carl and Larisa got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. Larisa moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each had prior roots in WV and longed to return. They now live in Elkins just 20 minutes from the "All Get Out" riverside vacation rental.

Why the Owner Chose Elkins

The location is ideal -- just far enough out to be immersed in the natural surroundings, but only 25 minutes from a full-service grocery store, movie theater, Davis and Elkins College, Randolph County Community Arts Center, antique shopping, and a YMCA. It is an hour from highly-rated golf or skiing. Spring and summer bring wonderful fishing, swimming, floating, and boating in the river; winter is great for cross-country skiing on the property or nearby, and alpine skiing is less than an hour's drive. Fall's foliage is not to be missed as the house is engulfed in trees and adjacent to the 1 million acre Monogahela National Forest, wonderful for hiking right out your door. Don't miss nearby Elkins to dine at a variety of restaurants, enjoy free exhibits at the Community Arts Center, and ride the scenic trains on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad. Davis and Elkins College is just 20 minutes away where you can enjoy live music and Appalachian arts at the internationally renowned 5-week long Augusta Festival. The Forest Festival every fall is a big draw, with carnival rides and almost two weeks of activities.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The property that this house sits on has been in Larisa's family since 1967. In 1995 Larisa decided to start construction on the property. She designed the house from the ground up and expressed her love of wood, light, warmth, and airiness into the architecture. The windows, decks, sunroom, and porch are situated for maximum enjoyment of the surrounding views of mountains, river, woods, and fields. The ventable skylights in the living room and loft provide sunlight and the lovely sound of rainfall. You can hear the river flow many nights when the windows are open.

Great New Year's Retreat

Guest: Katie (Washington, DC)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

We had a delightful new year's trip to Woodland and would highly recommend the property to others. We were a group of 8 and the space was spacious, yet cozy. Wonderful fireplace in the living room with a big screen TV for curling up and watching movies. The kitchen is awesome and has plenty of counter space and all of the necessary kitchen items. The property is ideal for large groups.

What a treat, more than we ever expected!

The view of the house is from the back and my wife thought we had to bring all our stuff in that way. The front door is at ground level and we had all our stuff unloaded in five minutes. The open design is wonderful, roomy and family friendly. I fell in love with the kitchen, 6 burner gas stove with a convection oven plus regular oven. A large fridge, and there was an extra fridge in the garage. The marble topped island is huge and since we had dinner and meals cafeteria style it worked out wonderfully. The bedrooms are well designed and had dressers for all your things. Plenty of bathrooms of course, loved the hot tub. Elkins is only a few miles away, they have a big Wal-Mart, gas stations and restaurants and an art community. The mountains all around, with the river right behind the house and white tail deer were all over, couldn't have been more relaxing. The dining table had seating for ten and the extra stools provided, let us all eat together. We all had a grest rest and are booking again for next year. Larisa was a joy to work with and really thought of everything to make us comfortable, thank you again!

Far Exceeded Our Expectations!

Guest: relaxed (Macedonia, OH)
Date of Stay: 09/08/11 Review Submitted: 09/16/11

Property owner has done a fantastic job with this property. Clean, upscale, comfortable, very well equipped, and friendly/accomodating owner. Little things made a big difference (i.e. firewood cut and stacked, wi-fi, decor, kitchen utensils/appliances, etc.) Have already recommended this property to several people, and hope to be back ourselves. Would suggest for any type of group from 2-10. Very secluded as we had hoped, but a short (10-15 min) drive to town for groceries, supplies, restaurants, etc. Walked the river both directions and this property is the best situated of all the riverfront properties we saw; with excellent river access, swimming, and fishing right from the property's shore (property itself is about 70 yards from the river with lighted access down to the river). If going to fish for smallmouth/trout, would suggest bringing a canoe and floating from bridge by "Cheat River Inn" to the property banks. Highly confident that you'll truly enjoy the property.

Beautiful place! Quiet, relaxing get-away

Guest: Michelle (Industry, PA)
Date of Stay: 06/22/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

I surprised my husband with an anniversary get-away in late June. The weather was not great, but the hot tub helped ease the lack of sunshine! The pics do not do justice to the beauty of the interior of the house. The home was also very well stocked- kitchen items, nice grill, linens, even robes. Larisa was very responsive, easy to work with & considerate. We will definitely be returning to "All Get Out." Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place with us!

We had a great time - it is so peaceful there and your house is beautiful. I don't know what I would have done on Thanksgiving without your fabulous kitchen.

Great location for skiers!!

Guest: Mike (Westerville, OH)
Date of Stay: 12/26/10 Review Submitted: 01/02/11

What attracted us to this property was its proximity to Canaan and Snowshoe ski areas. Canaan is a little under one hour and Snowshoe a little over one hour drive. Once we arrived at the property we knew it was a great selection. The kitchen and family rooms are beautiful and very modern. The outside hot tub was great after a day of skiing and the bedrooms very comfortable. You can go into Elkins in about 15 minutes for groceries, a movie, restaurant, etc.

Columbus Day Weekend Stay

Guest: Dan (Arlington, VA)
Date of Stay: 10/07/10 Review Submitted: 10/12/10

Two families (4 adults, 3 girls ages 6-8 and one dog) spent four nights (10/7/10 – 10/10/10) at this listing. The house was new, tasteful, modern, clean and luxurious. Girls had fun in the game room when not outside while the adults liked the fireplace, brazier and deck. Didn’t use the river but it looked fishable, and in warmer weather, swimmable. Numerous hiking opportunities. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this house to anyone desiring an upscale get away.

Family Retreat

Guest: Jolene (Vienna, VA)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 09/20/10

My family and I stayed at the house in August for a small family get away. We had fun fishing in the stream and were impressed by the many amenities of the house. The location is a bit far back in the woods, but it was perfect for our relaxing family fishing weekend.

Perfect Getaway Spot

Guest: Rob (Oakton, VA)
Date of Stay: 09/09/10 Review Submitted: 09/20/10

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed renting the property for a week to unplug from our hectic life. The house and property gave us the peace and quiet we needed to recharge the batteries. Nothing like enjoying a cup of coffee early in the morning down by the river or roasting marshmellows around the outdoor firepit or just sitting on the deck and enjoying a blanket of stars w/a glass of wine. The screened porch was great especially for breakfast. Easy access to the town of Elkins which has some great little restaurants and shops. The kitchen was extremely well appointed and had every imaginable utensil. Solitude w/an espresso machine - doesn't get any better than that.
