The unit was perfectly equipped, clean and comfortable for our family of four. We loved the lanai and fully opening doors. The property was well maintained spacious and the beach was excellent for walking and swimming. This was our second time in Maui and we are so glad we found this gem! Everything was brand new and super clean! The view was amazing! The room was big enough for our family of 4. We have 2 kids and they just loved it also.. We spent the majority of our time at the pool and beach within walking distance.. We are coming back again and we will definately stay here! The only thing I would suggest is to supply a griddle for making pancakes :)Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

There were no surprises with the unit, basically as presented online and through photos. Nice unit, newer building and grounds, unit was clean. We have been staying the last few years at the Westin Resort, slightly south of the Honui Kai,and we were renting a similar style 1 bedroom room unit,...minus the den. This is our 7th year visiting Maui,...so we are fairly familar with the island, and have stayed at various places both on the Kaanapali end, and also in Kehei/Weilea. I don't have any big complaints,....but some small annoying features. I think the cookware in the kitchen should be updated. They are stainless pans, and everything sticks, and makes it hard to cook, and difficult to clean. After two weeks in the unit, this got old. The design of the kitchen is small and doesn't allow for much storage or cupboard space. Not a big issue for shorter stays, but with 2 weeks it was a challenge. There is no garbage disposal. I would guess this may be throughtout the complex (?), and perhaps was some code issue due to newer construction. However, was somewhat inconvenient always cleaning out the sink of items you would normally put in your disposal,...felt kinda old school. The room is located next to the elevator, and that makes for quick access. However, you can hear the elevator go up and down while laying in bed. Not a huge noise issue, but is noticeable. Also, the lenai doesn't ever get any direct sunlight,.....at least not during the time of our stay. Also not a big issue, but just in case you wanted to sit out in the sun, I would not plan on that with this unit. Overall function of the room is fine, the grounds are well maintained and the underground parking is very nice, makes for easy in/out of unit. Personally I would return to the Westin, room design is slightly better, and layout of the grounds is more functional, especially if it is windy, which it was alot during our trip. Pricing for the rooms in my experience was very similar. All that said,...no real glaring issues, and we certainly enjoyed our stay and property management was on time and friendly, no complaints with them! I wouldn't hesistate to recommend the unit,...however, I might advise a friend to also check a few of the other surrounding properties as well, as they would present good options.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a great stay here with our 8-month-old son. The condo is immaculate and the kitchen is very well-equipped. We appreciated having a TV in the bedroom (in addition to the living room) when trapped inside with a sleeping baby at night. Wonderful soaking tub and huge bathroom. The condo is at the end of a hall, so has neighbors on only one side, and we didn't hear any noise the entire time. (Also, conveniently, as the baby was sleeping next to a hallway, I didn't have to worry as much about disturbing others when he woke up crying in the middle of the night.) Great lanai with a big dining table as well as two extra chairs for lounging with a drink and a book. Pools are fantastic and the beach is lovely. Also enjoyed Duke's restaurant, which has a great oceanside setting. Grocery store is huge, well stocked, and right across the street. There's also a nice health food store half a mile up the road with organic and specialty items. Two things worth mentioning for prospective renters: 1) While the attached den does provide extra sleeping space, it does NOT have any door separating it from the main living area - just an open doorway. This was a surprise as we had sprung for a condo with a den so that we could spend time in the living area and kitchen while our son was sleeping, and still have a private bedroom for ourselves. We ended up having to tiptoe around with the lights off during naps and after bedtime. This is important to know for anyone who is planning on using the den as a separate sleeping space. 2) The lanai does have some view of the ocean, but it mostly faces a parking lot and other large condo buildings. Most nights there was loud live music coming from one of the adjacent complexes. Not unpleasant, and we couldn't hear it inside with the doors shut, but don't expect the sound of the ocean if you're hanging out on the lanai at night . This may be less of a concern if you're spending evenings out and coming back late, but for parents with small children asleep at an early hour, it's worth knowing. Overall a lovely place to stay on Maui. The kitchen and laundry amenities, as well as the nearby pool and beach make it particularly nice for famlies.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

First of all, the Kaanapali Resort property (management company, located across the street) did a wonderful job; quick responses and nice concierge service. The units have plenty paper goods, dish/laundry soaps, and some water toys (we left a large sand bucket and goza mats, for the future guests.) The kitchen was beautiful, but not too practical to me (I love cooking.) I often had a trouble with the right-front side stove, fluctuated too much. The frying pan was very small for family, but I understand that there is not much space for the storage. However, there are plenty kitchen-wares. The unit is clean and stylish! Oh, don't forget to swim and soak in the spa at night; beautiful sight with that many torches around. The location is on the dividing line for the weather (Left side sunny and right side rain here and there.) Also the place is quite windy in the evening. The resort front beach is little bit rough for small kids; walk to the left for better section. Honolua Bay is excellent for snorkeling which is only 10-15 minutes drive. Fresh local fish? "Fish Market Maui" is 3 mins away; I felt that this is the freshest fish you can get in the area. We saw a local pick-up truck dropping Mahi-mahi etc at the parking lot. "Farmers Market" was not too impressive compared to markets in Hana. But the coconut water was really good. Hana won for the pink-papaya. Also, I recommend Ululani's shaved ice in Lahaina. There are 2 locations, but ocean side's owner is a Japanese. (BTW, Hawaiian Shaved ice is Japanese "Kakigoori" Did I mention that I am from Japan?) He served green-tea flavor (not on the menu); not perfect, but close. However, coconut flavor (not easy to find in Japan) was excellent--marriage between Hawaii and Japan!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I have recently returned from my vacation at the Honua Kai resort on Maui and have nothing but great things to remember about the vacation. The resort was fabulous! Nicely kept with all the amenities you could need for a family vacation. Upon reflection, I couldn't come up with any negatives about the resort. The room was beautiful! It had all the amenities that you would expect from a high end resort and then some. Very clean and tastefully decorated with a great view. The management company (Kaanapali Beach Rentals) were great. I had a lost key and was able to get one from their office located across the road on Christmas eve. Only complaint is that we didn't stay longer. I will definitely be back to Honua Kai and would stay in this suite again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

That I didn't get to stay here longer! We so thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week vacation, and have no hesitation giving this five stars. Not only did the condominium live up to its advertisement, the owner was wonderful to deal with. Everthing was very welcoming and how nice to be supplied with items that we'd never use up in 2 weeks (ie detergents, paper towel). I have found in my travels that furniture can be so uncomfortable and that doesn't apply here. With so much to do, we were out a lot but it sure was nice to be able to truly relax when we wanted to stay in. Stocked kitchen, quality beach-towels and as mentioned, very handy being so close to the elevator to get to the grounds and/or parking. 10/10 to the staff, beautiful property, clean pools and convenient having the bar/restaurant on site. Nice size lanai for meals or relaxing, lovely and quiet at every time of the day/night, minimal wind on that side and did I mention a car would fit in the bathroom? Great water pressure and first-class all around. Location Location. Mall across the street has a great grocery store and we never had to bother with Safeway or Costco for anything. Didn't even have to rent a car the first week as everything was in walking distance. Got my nails done (best I've ever had) in the same mall and you really should check out Java Jazz for a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the sun come up. The beach out front has great snorkelling but you'll want aquashoes at the shoreline if you're going out for a swim. Lovely boardwalk in front of the resort going parallel with the beach and the ambience at night definitely speaks of romance. My brightest star goes to the cleanliness of the unit, and I'm told I'm beyond picky. The air cond. was on for us upon arrival and I must mention that the property mgmt. (right across the street) were fantastic to deal with. Having free long-distance calls to the mainland was a real plus and I would stay again in a heartbeat, and plan on doing just that. I've been to Hawaii many many times and I've never had a more lovely condo. Mahalo and see you next year......Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I had our best trip yet to Maui (8/20/11 - 8/31/11) because this unit was perfect in fit and form. We would normally stay at the Hyatt Regency, but wanted more space and a kitchen. This unit was absolutely perfect for me, my wife, my 12-year old son and 8-year old daughter and the resort is perfect for families with children. The unit is very spacious, impeccably clean, very well stocked and very quiet. Additionally, the unit’s proximity to an elevator and the underground parking is a huge plus. We normally have to walk a long distance from our car to the room (this was a very nice and unexpected bonus). The rental experience with the owners and property management company was a breeze and the price was more than fair. We definitely plan on returning in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

About the owner: My husband and I and our three children love vacationing in Maui and now we can return over and over again to our own little place in paradise. We are very excited to share our new home with you and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a retired physician (UCLA School of Medicine)/stay-at-home/real estate agent. My husband works in finance. Our family loves the outdoors and we particularly enjoy skiing/snowboarding, hiking, biking, boating as a family as well as tennis, volleyball, basketball, wakeboarding, windsurfing, outrigger canoeing, kayaking and scuba diving.
Why the Owner Chose Honua Kai:
When we found out that a new oceanfront resort with full-ownership luxury condominiums was being built on this stretch of Kaanapali North Beach, we looked forward to the opportunity to buy what we had always dreamed about - a family vacation home in Maui.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Maui is a beautiful place and we particularly love the Kaanapali area with its gorgeous beaches, spectacular sunsets, and colorful rainbows. There are so many fun things to do here and it can get very hectic trying to do it all, but we also enjoy just sunbathing by the pool, walking along the beach and relaxing on our lanai.
