This quaint, cozy redwood cottage is located 2 miles north of the city of Fort Bragg, Ca. It is on a small country lane that borders MacKerricher State Park. It has a unique architectural style reminiscent of a Dutch-like cottage with a high vaulted ceiling. You will find your way up to the loft bedroom by way of a beautiful wooden spiral staircase. The bedroom has a queen-size bed, full dresser, and a large closet. There are opening skylights to let in the fresh ocean breeze. Downstairs you will find a living room that features a woodburning stove (for heat on those cool nights), a 32-inch flat screen Toshiba TV with Blueray DVD player and a stereo HI/FI system. It has a full bath, additional closet space and a stack washer/dryer. The futon couch allows for more sleeping area, opening up into a double bed. The kitchenette area is large and fully amended. The Quail Cottage is ideal for those looking to enjoy a romantic getaway.
When you venture out the backdoor, you will find a private redwood deck with Hot tub, BBQ, and additional seating, both around the deck and by the firepit area. (Fire wood is provided for the evening campfire.) The grounds are nicely landscaped and maintained.
Directly across form this quaint cottage there is a path that leads to a State Park trail which circles beautiful Cleone Lake. The lake is stocked with trout, bass, and who knows what else. This provides access to the black sandy beaches at MacKerricher State Park, as well as an old logging road which allows the visitor to walk north to the expansive sand dunes of Ten Mile Beach, or south to the town of Fort Bragg. Along the way, you can reach many of the great tide-pooling spots and ultimately end up at Glass Beach, a favorite destination for many who come to the beautiful Mendocino Coast.

I really enjoyed my stay at Quail Cottage- hot tub, trail to beach that I love, horseback ridding next door, Mendo Bistro for dinner after tasting wine at Pacific Star's oceanfront winery. My only question is "when can I come back?"Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It is wonderful celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary here! Beautiful cottage and area. We love the beach and were able to venture out visiting Mendocino & all around. Thank you for a beautiful time! We love the wood stove; brought back memories of Alaska when we were first married! Love to you both,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This place is beautiful...already seen the sun go down and moon come out. Sat in the hot tub; enjoyed the fresh air, heard the ocean crashing against the rocks...Can't get enough...still two more days left. Thanks for such a beautiful setting and comfortable cottage! The walk down from cottage to ocean is beautiful. The waves were huge! Hope to be here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Quail Cottage is a sweet little jewel in Mendo. I came exhausted...needing solitude and recovery....Boy, did I get it! - all the attention to detail made me feel special and cared for...the fireplace and hottub helped relax me and the sound of the ocean lulled me to sleep... Babe, my dog, was welcomed and she relaxed ...special as she is...a companion. As a musician, this renewel will bring back my creativity, I am sure. Thank you for a magical stay and rest.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a special treat to stay in this charming cottage. Each night we were lulled to sleep by cool breezes and the sound of the ocean in our "ship-bed". Each morning we were treated to a beautiful view & birdsong. Everything was perfect. Thank you so much, it is etched in our memories. We will be back!Did you find this review helpful? From the first step inside this quaint cottage, we were mesmerized by the inviting atmosphere within. The faint sound of music welcomed us in, as we took in the magic of Quail Cottage. From the unique craftsmanship and design, to the amenities hidden within, Quail Cottage is the perfect balance between a secret get away, and home sweet home. The hot tub in the back yard is constantly whispering an invitation to enjoy it's warmth, both day and night. ( We even enjoyed our morning coffee in it on our last day!) A short walk from the cottage are the crashing waves of the ocean and Mackerricher State Park. Adventure around Lake Cleone, and weave your way along a planked path down to the beach. At night, the stars are surrounding the cottage as you can sit around the fire pit in the back. At Quail Cottage, your never far from town or home amenities, or the complete opposite, nature and solitude. We so enjoyed our short stay, and will no doubt return. The cottage has a special place in our hearts and Quails, have an all new... special meaning to us!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: The owner is an an active walker and enjoys sewing and crafts. She loves to garden, and enjoys the small town community of the north coast. Husband is a retired railroad employee, and also has been an avid sailor and surfer. Together, we also enjoy traveling the U.S. with our dog.
Why the Owner Chose Fort Bragg:
The property is in the most divine location...adjacent to the Cleone lake and the beach at MacKerricher State Park. The Quail Cottage is so adorable that it just has to be shared...a one of a kind, cozy space that just lent itself to being a vacation rental... a primary reason for having purchased here. We both enjoy the natural beauty of the woods and the ocean and love it's changes through the seasons.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
There is an easy and delightful walk to the beach, that goes through the woods and around the lake. It's a nature lovers dream come true...wildlife and gorgeous sunsets. The landscaping is beautiful at all times of the year and when the row of 20 or more rhododendrons bloom in early spring, it's a feast for the eyes. The quiet of the country setting is washed with the sounds of ocean waves.
