Holiday Bliss! Happy New Year: December, 2010
We travel quite a bit - sometimes stay at resorts and sometimes rent houses. This is the first time we feel compelled to write a review. What a wonderful time we had in Barbados - much of the positive experience was because of the great accommodations and wonderful people at Villa Magna. The house has Mediterranean styling with a great layout. The pictures do not do it justice. It feels like you're in a private oasis when sitting around the pool - the views are breathtaking! The neighbours are great (they told us to say that :)). The Villa owner's parents are one side and on the other is Karen who competently and patiently handled all rental booking details with us. The owner, Roddy, lives two doors down. Karen arranged a van to get us at the airport and groceries for our arrival. Roddy met us at the house and showed us around when we arrived. We had phone problems and the issue was promptly rectified. Housecleaning was done mid-week by two very nice ladies who wouldn't take no for an answer - even after saying not to bother with a few of the chores, they couldn't leave without doing a comprehensive job. Roddy dropped by during the week to make sure everything was OK. Needless to say, the service was as great as the house. Speaking of the house...there are 3 nice bedrooms: a large self contained unit w/ a king bed that has a small kitchenette, private patio and ensuite bathroom; one with a queen bed w/ a private patio, access to the pool and ensuite bathroom; and one with twin beds w/ a small balcony and a bathroom next door. The AC worked like a charm for comfortable sleeping (although the tree frogs are loud!). There are 4 bathrooms – 3 mentioned above and a 2 piece off the living area. We can't comment on the TVs or living space as we spend most waking hours outdoors. We cooked most meals at the house. Our only 'beef' would be the kitchen – it’s a bit small and appliances (fridge, stove top, oven, dishwasher) work well enough but could be upgraded. The dining room sat 6 comfortably and dishes were plentiful. Last, the pool was clean and regular maintenance ensured it stayed that way. The area around the pool is a little snug...would help to change the round patio table to a rectangular one and have seating for six (though we managed to improvise). And finally-did we mention the spectacular views...and watching the fireworks NYE from the upper gazebo was awesome!! Thanks Karen and Roddy - we wish we could have stayed forever!

Why the Owner Chose Maynards:
Villa Magna was bought because of its close proximity to my personal house and the Sugar Cane Club Hotel. Being so close to the Hotel adds a lot of facilities to the villa that make it quite an attractive rental property.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The view! Villa Magna is set atop a hill side over looking a very beautifully forested area on one side, and on the other it over looks over Port St. Charles Marina and the Caribbean Sea. The house is also designed by Ian Morrison, a famous Barbadian Architect! I really like his coziness and unique design style. It is a very Mediterranean/ Spanish styled house that is then furnished like a true Caribbean home with all the amenities you would need on vacation.
