If you are looking for a place to relax while surrounded with the sights and sounds of nature, come to Fireflies at Riverview Haven. Our cabin is located in Wythe County Virginia along the New River waterfront across from the 57-mile New River Trail State Park. The New River is 350 million years old and retains the pristine beauty of an unspoiled waterway. Enjoy canoeing, tubing, kayaking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, or fishing. Fireflies is situated mid way between Wytheville and the Christainsburg//Blacksburg area both of which offer many dining and entertainment options.
The cabin rests above the water not far from a bend in the river. You can watch the sun come up over the mountain and the mist rise above the river while sitting on one of Fireflies’ two porches. Visit the floating dock and gaze at the river as it travels a never ending journey north. You may be treated to the sight of fish leaping into the air or turtles enjoying the sun. One visit to Fireflies at Riverview Haven and you will find a sanctuary to relax and enjoy the gifts of nature.
A queen size inflatable mattress is available for additional sleeping.

Fireflies is adorable and has an amazing view. It really felt like a home away from home with even the smallest utensils and items easy to find. There was no "making do" with whatever was available and no confusion with light switches labeled. We enjoyed being outdoorsy for once by fishing and using the handy campfire kit to make a fire and smores. We absolutely LOVED this cabin! It was a perfect R&R break for us after 4 weeks of hectic but fun road-tripping around the USA. We had grand plans to hire a canoe and go horseback riding but neither one happened as we were both so happy just spending time together in the cabin. The owners thought of everything when building the cabin and the little extras (cupboard stores, yummy muffins, campfire kit, labels around the home) really made the difference. I'm not quite sure where to begin as there are so many things to thank you for! Fireflies is beautiful in so many ways - the view, the appointments, the cleanliness, the care with which it is maintained...all of this makes Fireflies a fabulous retreat. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed "getting away" and not being on a schedule. We visited Hillsville and Floyd and enjoyed a peaceful drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We loved how you care enough to eliminate all questions with labels on everything making our cabin stay so easy by having all of the basic consumable supplies anyone would need for a short stay. The cabin is perfectly furnished and we were incredibly comfortable here. The view is just fantastic and our four legged companion loved prowling the grounds. The attention to detail in this cabin is amazing! We loved the grounds and so did our dog, "Cool Hand Luke." Everything about this place is beautiful, I can't imagine waking up to this everyday - you are truly blessed. God willing we will find ourselves here again. This was truly a vacation to remember! What an amazing place to spend a quiet weekend with the love of my life! Fireflies is perfect! It is so beautiful and tranquil here. The cabin is amazing. You have thought of everything and the setting is perfect...the mountains and the New River, well, you can't get any better than that! We only live an hour away but it seems like a lifetime away. About the owner: This property is owned by Bill and Kathie Conaway both of whom are retired. Bill and his father built the cabin in 2009-2010. We began to rent the cabin in September, 2010.
Why the Owner Chose Barren Springs:
We are originally from New Jersey. While vacationing in the New River Valley in 2004 we fell in love with the area. We purchased property on the river in 2005. As this was our second home we rented it as a vacation rental for 3 years before our retirement. In 2009 we moved into our home and began to build a small cabin on the property close to the river. The cabin, which we call Fireflies, is now ready to be enjoyed by vacationers looking for a place to relax.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin sits just above the riverbank and has large windows and two porches that have been designed to enable you to enjoy the abundance of nature. It is common place to see the deer in the early morning and again in the evening. Water birds of many varieties fly up and down the river each day and it is not unusual to see a bald eagle.
