- Minimum stay:2-3 nights

- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
4Volcanoes Lodge is a stylish, one-of-a kind, custom-built home with amazing 7,596 sqft of living space. The villa is perfect for families, romantic luxury breaks and retreats.
The setting and scenery of the villa are spectacular: Sitting on six acres private land and in a green valley of the dramatic Andes mountains, right at beautiful lake San Pablo, this is the only private villa in South America recommended by Conde Nast Johansens luxury guidebook. The care we offer at 4Volcanoes Lodge by our bilingual staff puts it in a class by itself compared with other casual, family-friendly homes.
Relax in the unique, open concept home with stylish (yet child friendly!) interior design. Enjoy our private super size Jacuzzi in an orchid filled patio, the ample living room with comfy couch and spectacular view over the valley, savor home cooked meals with freshly picked herbs, or sip a fabulous fresh fruit juice in the hammock while enjoying the equatorial sun.
The adobe and stone build villa is an ideal getaway for families with children, gatherings, outdoor enthusiasts, or those who are looking for a quiet place to write, paint or learn Spanish. Whether you would like to retreat and rest or climb the volcanoes and have an active stay, the exceptional beauty, texture and light of our home will caress your senses.
The Lodge is an ecological place with a biodynamic plant and bee sanctuary. We use organic cleaning supplies and natural materials. Textures, natural colors, a constant dance of light and shadow and the respectful use of local resources makes this house a perfect stage for your Holy-Days.
The area is a must see: Vivid indigenous culture, 350 days of sun, amazing nature for outdoor activities, authentic rural villages for crafts/ antique shopping. 90min to Quito airport. Our unique home is nestled into corn fields and surrounded by a professionally landscaped garden, with walkable labyrinth and lots of room for your children. There are amazing views from every corner of the house. Look to the north for an immediate, unobstructed view of Imbabura volcano, it is literally a stone through away. To the South enjoy green fields, huge eucalyptus trees, the center piece of our garden and the ever changing shadow play at Mojanda mountain. To the West you let your sight explore a long distance of the valley, the lake, and Cotacachi peak in the distance. And towards the East gaze into the lush green triangle of Cusin crater, decorated by the rural San Pablo village and its church towers.
There is staff available for cleaning, cooking, child care, activities and whatever else you might need, but we will always respect your privacy. We – the german owners family – live in our own house at one end of the property and will be happy to assist during your stay – just as much as you like. Of course you may also stay completely private.
Your house is standing free in a two acre landscaped perennial garden with a big outdoor playground, labyrinth, organic horticulture, BBQ area, and a toy room with entrance from the garden. Furthermore and attached at the back of the garden, we have 4 acres pasture land, where we run a Natural Horsemanship & Equine Therapy Center and the bee sanctuary. The Center has a riding ring, play pens and a paddock paradise Trail.
Not two people have the same needs and expectations. That's why we like tailored service packages. Please email us with your ideas of a perfect holiday - and we help you to make it happen. Almost anything is possible, from absolute privacy and self catering, up to a luxury service deal with breakfast and chauffeur. No matter if you are traveling as a couple and need just one bedroom or if you come with children and nanny. We are flexible! Just talk to us, and we figure out our best deal.
The area is quiet, and the house has a soothing and relaxing energy. Its perfect for retreats! In the bathrooms you will find spa-amenities and eco-luxury bamboo towels.
The extremely spacious, sunlight Mojanda master bedroom suite has a king size bed, windows to three sides, a French door to the orchid patio & Jacuzzi, ample bathroom with all natural materials, rainfall shower and separate tub, a fireplace, big desk and antique storage furniture. The Imbabura bedroom, also with windows to three sides and a French door access to the patio, has a queen size bed with extremely confortable down duvets, anti allergic pillows and high treat count sheets. A closet, glass desk, two dark-green leather chairs and fluffy white alpaca rugs will make you feel right at home. The bathroom with stone shower, separate tub and big mirrors is very spacious. The library, usually a second living room, can be turned into an extra bedroom for children, with lots of shelf space, large windows and sliding doors to the terrace. Downstairs, on the garden level, we have two more bedrooms with private bathrooms. They are decorated with more alpaca rugs and natural materials, and the paintings of our friend and renowned Ecuadorian painter Marco Vasquez add a colorful touch of native art.
4Volcanoes Lodge is your base for a year-round adventure to Ecuador. Just a short flight from Miami and with mild climate at any time, you can explore the dramatic Andes mountains, lakes and green valleys of the Imbabura province, colonial haciendas and traditional artisans. The vivid indigenous culture is unique in all South America, how about a cleansing at a local shaman? There are hot springs, famous handicraft markets, rural villages and the UNESCO world heritage sites of colonial Ibarra and Quito. Visit the ruins and earth mounds of pre-inkan cultures or a precious modern museum of famous painter Guayasamin. View stars of BOTH hemispheres, relax at a full body in-room massage, take a yoga class on the roof top or learn about medical plants in the labyrinth. There are several restaurants close by, or get a cooking lesson for our favorite comfort food, the typical potato soup “Locro de queso” with aji hot sauce. We can help organize a trip to the Galapagos islands or a tour to rain forest.
4Volcanoes Lodge near Otavalo can be the home base, beginning or perfect ending of your Ecuador adventure!
When you book 4Volcanoes Lodge you will receive a pre-trip information packet, FAQ document and travel recommendations that will assist you with planning your trip.

Arriving at 4 volcanoes lodge already leaves you breathless. Incredible nature and views, perfect climate for exploring the surroundings like markets, villages, hiking trips - always guided be Thomas, as local as it gets. The lodge is just amazing, perfect architecture in balance with nature and design. You enter and you feel comfortable! Especially when looking at the stars in the jacuzzi after a day of hiking. Don't miss Juanita, the private chef and enjoy Ecuadorean cuisine, comfortably at home, being able to glance over the shoulder and stealing some recipes. After a busy 2 week trip throughout Galapagos and most of Ecuador, spending one week at 4 volcanoes lodge was truely the best decision ever!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

4Volcanoes Lodge is a window into life in Ecuador; the daily rhythms of watching cows go to pasture in the morning and home at night, herded by farmers in their indigenous attire; local food lovingly prepared with a Ecuadorian flair by Juanita; watching Christina working with horses and children from the orphanage with a kind and gentle spirit; and Thomas, the “Indiana Jones” of San Pablo, bouncing daringly along mountain roads in his Defender, delivering guests to their daily activities. We will return. And soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We spent a long weekend at 4 Volcanos with two other families. There 12 in total -6 adults and 6 kids. We loved our stay at would highly highly highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway. The well-equiped kithchen was awesome for cooking and the huge dining table fit us all comfortably. We enjoyed our evenings by the fire or relaxing in the hot tub - mornings were great for sipping coffee while enjoying the 360 degree view of spectacular mountains and countryside. What was best for us is that the kids were totally entertained. Free to run in the garden, soak in the tub or play in a fully stocked playroom they were totally content. Christiana and Thomas were awesome and helpful. We were fortunate (our kiddos) to have the opportunity to take a riiding lesson with Christina; in fact, we are going to return soon to do another. We can't wait to return to 4 Volcanos soon!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have stayed at VRBO properties in a number of locations (Hawaii, Saba, the Canadian Rockies, etc.) and -- without a doubt -- 4Volcanoes is our new benchmark for excellence. The architecture of the house is immaculate (the perfect combination of open space and privacy) and its location is excellent for exploring the Northern Sierra. We did day trips to Intag (cloud forest, coffee), El Angel (high paramo), and hikes to the local volcanoes (Fuya Fuya and Mojanda Lakes are excellent for a simple afternoon, Imbabaru for a challenge, and Cotacachi for full-day endeavor). The owners- Christina and Thomas - are an invaluable source of information, and have taken care of many thoughtful details (prestocked drinks in the fridge, a care package of local treats, a cell phone and help arranging guiding). You will love your stay here!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My fiance and I are currently living in Ecuador, and we visited 4 Volcanoes to see if it would work as a venue for our upcoming wedding. What an incredible find!! This property is so unique, comfortable, and beautiful. It is one of the top places we have visited in the country, and its location close to Otavalo makes it even more ideal. It showcases the best of Ecuadorian culture in a level of comfort that is hard to come by here. The rooms are huge, with comfortable beds and top quality linens (even down comforters to keep you toasty warm during the cool nights), the bathrooms have huge tubs and showers, with fantastic European details. There is a fabulously equipped kitchen if you want to do your own cooking - we did, and had a great meal, accompanied by a delicious salad fresh picked from the beautiful garden! The rest of the house is equally comfortable and well laid out for large groups or smaller family vacations. The attention to the grounds is breathtaking. Truly the feather-in-the-cap of 4 Volcanoes...it is so tranquil. We didn't have kids with us, but I can see why the property would be so fun for them - there is a great playset, and plenty of room for running around and exploring! On top of all this, as a guest, you truly feel well taken care of. Christina and Thomas make you comfortable from the first moment, and leave you as much (or as little) space as you need. We asked several questions about the surrounding area, sights, etc., and they were very knowledgeable. The perfect hosts!! The location is great with or without a car. We were traveling without a car, and there was a convenient bus to Otavalo that went right by the front gate. We also took a taxi a couple of times, and it was very inexpensive to get around. All in all, our visit was too short!! We could easily spend WEEKS at 4 Volcanoes!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We were there for a week with six of our granchildren, ages 3 to 11. We are quite picky about our family trips and very demanding. The owners, Christina, Thomas together with their children are a lovely family. We were able to adopt two of their children to our group which enriched us all. Christina and Thomas looked after each and every detail. The activities planned for the children, from hikes, to horsebacriding, storytelling, arts and crafts, picnics, yoga, and a shaman experience exceeded all of our expectations. We had a full staff, nannies, cooks, and cleaning ladies. Terrific staff, lovely people. The home is beautiful, cozy and warm. Wonderful jacuzzi for afternoons with grandfather. We will return, with family, as a couple or with friends. An experience that we all cherish and will stay in our hearts Thank you once again, Christina, Thomas, Noah, Luca and EliasRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We are a family from Germany and live permanently in Ecuador since 2002. With our own Lodge and the Equine therapy facility next door we live our dream close to nature, with cultural experiences and of course sunshine all year round! Our three boys are born in this wonderful country and homeschooled - we truly love our way of life here. As former buisness consultants and managers of the award winning Hacienda Zuleta hotel, we know the hospitality industry quite well - take advantage of our contacts and insights! We also spend our time teaching at the university, coaching alternative schools, learning about shamanism, and volunteering at a local orphanage. We are happy to share, and looking forward to meeting you!
Why the Owner Chose Otavalo:
San Pablo is an authentic village in a quiet rural setting, but only 1 hour from the capital Quito. The climate is convincing too - Sunshine on 350 days!
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The area is perfect for outdoor activities, there are restaurants around and the cultural experience offered is amazing.
A perfect day: get up with the first rays of sun and hike up the Imbabura volcano. Come back, have a late breakfast on the terrace. Watch the horses in training while you check your emails - yes, wifi! Later a trip to Otavalo, some crafts shopping, visit a cultural event or just watch the people at the plaza. Take sun protection, it is hot around noon! Grab some fruit at the market and head for early dinner towards the lake, for a beautiful dining experience with sunset view at the shore. When home, the hot tub is boiling and we count the stars of both hemisperes. And tomorrow we´ll do a trail ride and have tea time at a colonial hacienda. And change our flights - we stay a week longer!
