Unique High End Canal House, Newly Renovated, Old Inner-City
- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This canal house on the Prinsengracht (110 square meters more than 1,000 square feed) is completely renovated. We bought the apartment two years ago and everything is new. As our apartment is located at a corner, there are 7 big windows overlooking the cannels which makes the apartment unique!
The apartment contains:
- Spacious master bedroom including bathroom (with bath, shower and toilet)
- Bedroom with new convertible-bed including bathroom (with shower)
- Open kitchen
- Spacious living room including high def. TV
- Separate toilet
- Fireplace
- New beds and furniture
- Wireless unlimited internet
- New modern kitchen with everything you need including American fridge
- Wooden floors
- Double glazed windows (although you you don't need it because it's a quit area)
- Washing machine / dryer
- Towels, sheets, dishes etc.
- Excellent 'Jura' coffee maker
Our apartment is in the centre of Amsterdam on the South part of the canals near the 'Spiegelgracht' where all the art galleries are.
It is located 2 minutes from the 'Leidseplein';
The 'Leidseplein is very crowded both throughout the day and night. When the sun is shining, the terraces quickly become filled. Street performers entertain the public, with acrobatic acts and music. At night the crowd changes: Amsterdammers go out here to celebrate, and to visit the theatres, cinemas and clubs. It is also possible to rent bikes at the Leidseplein, which you can store in our bicycle room.
On February 1, 1999, the Dutch government decided to qualify the inner city, the canals of Amsterdam, as a monument, a protected inner city view. The girdle of canals (ranging from the Singel Canal up to the Prinsengracht Canal) is a historically important part of this region, and it is one of the city's most attractive sights.
The girdle of canals starts at River Amstel and ends at Brouwersgracht. One third of the houses along the canals (grachtenhuizen) were built before 1850. During the 17th Century the city extended its boundaries, and canals were shaped in a girdle around the oldest part of Amsterdam to accommodate wealthy tradesmen and burghers. First the Singel Canal was dug out, then the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and, last of all, Prinsengracht.

We just spend a few days in this marvelous house in Amsterdam. Everything you could wish for a rental house was there; a beautiful view on the canals, beautifully decorated house, perfect location; near every great museum (Rijksmuseum, Vincent van Gogh museum, Anne Frank House) and the shopping area was just around the corner. The apartment was very clean, well equipped and had high quality beds. We were welcomed with fresh flowers and a bottle of wine. This house we will remember if we visit Amsterdam next time! Thank you so much Evelien. Family WilliamsDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The apartment was very nice, we certainly enjoyed it and would go back again. There are a few things the owners could do to make it much better. There was a smell in the master bath that permeated the bedroom; hopefully this will be identified and corrected. There were essentially no hangers which is a small item but a necessary one. A carton of 25 nice hangers at Costco is certainly cheap enough. Similarly, there was very limited dinnerware and especially coffee cups. Why have to run the dishwasher after every meal because there are only 4 coffee cups? Get a full place setting of dinnerware. A basic coffee pot would have been nice as well. I think elderly clients should beware of the very steep and narrow stairs- ( from our first floor to third floor, their ground to second floor). I am relatively young and agile and still had to use great caution. Other than these small items- the house was lovely and the setting was perfect. You could not find a better location is Amsterdam. Tram stops are convenient for longer outings (no car needed) and evening walks to several large plazas were easily done. Enjoy!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear David, Thank you for your feedback. We will buy additional dinner ware (surely coffee cups!) and hangers for clothes. We hope to welcome you again in our apartment soon. With kind regards, Eefje

My husband and I and another couple spent a week in Amsterdam and had a fabulous stay in this wonderful apartment! It's beautifully decorated, clean, has a well equipped kitchen, and is very comfortable for 4 adults. We loved the location and the beautiful canal views! The owners were very responsive and easy to work with. We appreciated the fresh flowers and bottle of wine and they responded quickly to any questions. A great alternative to a hotel. We would definitely stay here again! Thanks so much!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband, son and I traveled from NYC to Amsterdam and stayed in the Canal house for a week. The apartment was lovely. The pictures accurately convey the apartment. The view is spectacular. Unlike other canal houses the house is on a corner which means that there are windows on the face of the house looking at the canal, but also on the side. We drank coffee and admired the view every morning. We frequently rent apartments when we go on vacation and this apartment ranks as one of our favorites. We would highly recommend the apartment. The owners were warm and welcoming and very responsive to any questions. The location is phenomenal. The Rjiksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum, Flower market, easy access to boat/canal rides and multiple other attractions were within walking distance. Easy access to a grocery store and a fully functioning kitchen. We would be pleased to stay at the apartment again. Enjoy!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We rented the apartment for a month. In all aspects it was excellent, and matched the prior reviews and owner's description. It was comfortable and well furnished, big windows looking out on the Prinsengracht canal, canal houses, birds flying by at eye level, boats going by. It was quiet but easy walking distance to most museums and many restaurants and antique shops and the center of town, and easy tram distance everywhere else. Caizijn was responsive the few times we had questions. It felt like a home that the owners were lending to us rather than like a rental. We mostly cooked and ate in the well-equipped apartment, and found great pleasure sitting in the living area looking out. It is on the second floor (up two flights of stairs) but they were not difficult stairs.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband and another couple stayed here for a week in September this year. We loved this apartment and would happily stay again. It was very comfortable for four adults. The beds were comfortable. One couple had to use the bathroom down the hall but it was not a problem. The kitchen was very well equipped. A wonderful coffee maker. We didn't cook but did a lot of heating up with food purchased at a grocery a few blocks away. One flight of stairs is a plus in Amerstdam. This apartment was very clean, had a great location close to public transportation, and had a beautiful view.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

What a great apartment! Beautifully decorated, very comfortable and oh what a view! My husband, 20 year old son and 16 year old daughter stayed here for 3 nights while exploring Amsterdam. This apartment is centrally located, we walked everywhere or else got around by boat on the canals. We made meals, did laundry, watched some soccer and enjoyed the view from the impressive windows looking out over the canal. A+!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We were tempted to spend all our time in Amsterdam just in the apartment! It certainly exceeded our expectations; it's big, nicely appointed, well equipped, quiet, minutes away from the museums (and easy walking distance to most points of interest) and overlooks a canal. What more could you ask for? Cazijn greeted us on our arrival and provided us with all the information and literature required to make our stay memorable. We also enjoyed his hospitality with the bottle of wine left for our enjoyment. If we should ever return to Amsterdam, this would be our first choice for accomodations. Thanks Cazijn!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This was a delightful surprise. So centrally located and easy to get everywhere. Consider getting a Iamsterdam pass - this is especially useful for hopping on and off trains, trams, and buses. So easy to get around. Exceptionally clean and the owner was helpful and gave us several restaurants (one around the corner and down the block that was outstanding and reasonable. Obviously see main attractions like Van Gogh museum and Keukenhoff Gardens but also see FOAM - the photography Museum and the exhibitions at the Old Church. Thanks fore a wonderful stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
