My husband & I spent a full week at the cabin and had a wonderful time! The cabin was spotlessly clean and well-stocked, (including spices, sugar, ketchup, tea, mustard, syrup, and many others). The kitchen was very well-stocked with kitchen implements and baking pans for the cook. We very much enjoyed the books on the history of the area as well. We were blessed with beautiful, sunny weather so we sat on the deck in the sun, watching the river, hummingbirds, ducks, deer, etc. We enjoyed the fire pit at night and when we got cold, we utilized the gas fireplace in the cabin and it made it feel so cozy. The bed is extremely comfortable and we loved the claw foot bath tub. While the house is not isolated, it feels private, especially on the deck. The road to the cabin is a full 20 miles but even the gravel portion is well-maintained. The owners are great at giving directions and answering questions but otherwise give guests privacy. I would highly recommend the Little Cabin on the River if you like peace and quiet, with an occasional trip to Golden & Silver Falls or to the beach.

We could not have been more delighted with our recent stay at "Little Cabin on the River". Everything was BEYOND what was expected... we hadn't done a vacation rental before, so this was all new to us...we initially picked this rental because of its proximity to the Gold and Silver Falls State Park, which yes, IS right up the road... a definite "must-see". It was winter, so we expected chilly/rainy weather... having the gas fireplace in the cozy living room was a highlight. The cabin has so many wonderful little attentions to details and is so thoroughly stocked (but not overly so... ), that we were absolutely thrilled to find everything we needed to cook, make cookies even!, BBQ, and enjoy the firepit by the river one evening. The owners have gone over and beyond to make the traveler/guest feel welcomed and comfortable... the bed, well... you just don't want to leave it it's so comfy... the furniture is charming and some has a story, the furnishings are adorable/comfortable/great taste, and there are even books detailing history of the area that are fascinating reading and really give you a feel for the area that you wouldn't have otherwise, which makes exploring the area even more interesting. The cabin itself is on a beautiful drive, upriver from Coos Bay proper, but very do-able for day trips out to go ATV riding on the Dunes (super FUN!!), or drive to one of the relatively nearby coastal attractions/points of interest... the owners gave us wonderful suggestions on things to do in advance of our stay, and even a couple of great restaurant suggestions at our request... which we appreciated and took advantage of their experience. :) The property was spotlessly clean and well-maintained... everything was in perfect working order and the owners did a great job of providing clear information on their expectations (what needs to be done at check-out, etc) and we absolutely would stay here again and give it a glowing recommendation. If you are looking for beauty, relaxation, and seclusion, this is a great place for that!

Owner response: It was such a pleasure having you as our guest for the Valentine's Day weekend, and enjoyed your kind note in our journal. Thank you for taking the time to write it, along with this wonderful review! It was great to know you enjoyed your visit and took advantage of the fun places to visit while here on the Oregon Coast. We hope to see you again!

Our trip to the Little Cabin was wonderful! We enjoyed the quietness, peacefulness, and most of all the privacy of the cabin. In no way was the road difficult, nor a problem. My two twins enjoyed the "rustic bunk beds," and hanging out in the dining room watching the "river" roll by. We saw ducks, kingfishers, deer, and an occasional steelhead swimming by. My kids loved it! The fireplace made the cabin warm and cozy and the big screen TV was great. The Litte Cabin provided several DVD's that are children and family friendly. One of our favorites was "Open Season." We hiked both Golden & Silver Falls and the kids were amazed at the size of the trees. It is indeed an old-growth forest and the falls were incredible. We traveled to Coos Bay and spent time at "The Out-Door Inn" where the kids played while we ate the "best" clam chowder ever! As far as houses "right next door," it was not a problem at all. The location was quiet, clean and very welcoming. Tom and Dee have done a wonderful job of providing a "home-away-from-home" feeling. We definitely will return, perhaps the next time as a "romantic weekend get-away." My husband fully agrees. Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven!

Great cabin with great steelhead fishing. The dryer was a huge plus when dealing with wet January weather. I can't over emphasize the proximity to great steelhead water. Save on gas versus driving from Coos Bay and the price can't be beat. Ended up with a 14lbs Steelhead not 5 minutes from the cabin. I wish I could attach a picture... I'll be staying again for sure!

My wife located this home on the internet and saw the pictures and read the reviews. She then called the owners and discussed what we needed. They were very happy to work with us on such short notice. When we arrived and opened the door, we could see that the residence was clean and felt like home. Anythng that could possibly be needed was supplied which included appliances, dishes and even spices etc. There was even bottles of bath soap and shampoo instead of little bars of soap. The bed was very comfortable and the home was decorated with great taste. We enjoyed the gas fireplace and the fact that the river was right behind the home. We will return and will recommend this to all of our friends.

Dee and Tom have thought of everything in making this little cabin the perfect place for rest and relaxation. It is extremely well stocked--and being an avid cook I appreciated that. The location on the river is very private--and although it has been quite dry there was still enough water to watch the leaves drift lazily by. We picked blackberries for our morning yogurt--and picked apples another day to bake a pie. Hiked to both Golden and Silver Falls a couple times---and again, even though there wasn't much water going over it was beautiful and peaceful--and one could imagine the majesty in wetter months. Our little shih tzu Gem thoroughly enjoyed lounging in the sunshine on the deck , meeting their little dog Toby--and accompanied us on our hikes in her backpack--on my back! Day trips to Shore Acres and Cape Arago were as wonderful as we remembered from a trip years ago. Also went to Mahaffey Ranch in Allegany for their annual pumpkin festival and picked pumpkins from the field which now look happy on our front deck here at home. Saw deer in the backyard our first morning as they crossed the river--and again on our walks. It was the perfect place to celebrate our retirement, my husband's birthday and our anniversay. Thanks again Dee and Tom!

We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights at The Little Cabin! The location is so private and peaceful. The cabin was immaculate and so well stocked. The kitchen was awesome. I loved the book, magazine and movie collections. I cracked up laughing when I saw "Foul Play" among the movie choices. I knew we had picked the right place. :) We rode our four-wheelers up to the falls, and hiked up for a closer look. The weather was perfect, warmer than down by the ocean. The river was low and so clear. We waded around in there catching and releasing little craw dads. I don't know why, but that is really fun for me. I loved your bathroom. I wanna come back when the weather is colder and enjoy that tub! I can't say enough about how nice you keep that place, definitely cleaner than my own house. And last but not least, loved drinking my red wine out of the "redneck wine glass". We will definitely be back.

We have rented quite a few beach houses in the past, and have found that what you see is not always what you get. So, we expected the same from "The Little Cabin on the River". Nice pictures, but just knew we were going to get there and be disappointed. Quite the opposite.....We were very pleased. Everything was as advertised....Very clean, cozy, well stocked and supplied, but most of all soooo peaceful, What a wonderful way to end our vacation.., It was......perfect......Thank you so much

We stayed at the little cabin for a week. Had a great time. Cabin is very clean and perfect for a couple. A small family would also be very comfortable here. The little bunk room would be really fun for children. Everything was there. I had packed condiments and spice for cooking, however, the fridge and cabinets had everything we needed. The hummingbirds out the back window, were very entertaining. I picked enough blackberries that I made 2 cobblers. We roasted hotdogs in the firepit. I barbequed a couple of times. We drove to and then hiked to the falls. The falls are a few miles up the road. The owners were very accommodating even bringing us firewood for the the pit. Loved, loved, loved this place. Would love to visit again.

We had an awesomely relaxing stay at the Little Cabin on the River! This was truly the only place I've been in several years where one cannot hear in Interstate Highway. The location was idyllic, peaceful and more beautiful than we could have imagined. The cabin is right on the river and very quiet and private. Tom and Dee have thought of every detail and you will want for nothing! We stayed during an eight day trip through Oregon. The LCOTR was just the break we needed in the middle of so much travel. We slept late, did all our laundry, relaxed on the deck and by the fire pit and cooked great meals in the unbelievably well thought out kitchen. The scenery at the (very nearby!) Golden and Silver Falls State Park was breathtaking! We don't have anything that beautiful in Central Texas! We truly enjoyed hiking the park! Tom and Dee have stocked the cabin with everything you will need from fishing poles to umbrellas to corkscrews. We played a little game to see if we could think of anything the cabin might need that we couldn't find already there...we lost! They have done a great job anticipating their guests' needs and making sure they are all met! We even used the pizza cutting wheel - they had one! Overall, it was a great experience and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. We can't wait to come back!

Tom and I are so appreciative of your taking the time to let us know. We wanted so much to have the cabin well stocked so our guests just needed to bring their tooth brushes. Thank you for letting us know we did good!

We enjoyed our short stay in your lovely cabin! It was great to have a fully fenced area for the dogs as well as the large grassy front yard to play fetch! The kitchen was so well stocked....and we used the grill for steaks! We loved drinking our morning coffee on the deck listening to the various birds and watching the hummingbirds jockey for positions on the feeder. In the evening, we sat down in the Adirondack chairs alongside the river and just relaxed. The peace and quiet was refreshing! Our bed was comfortable and the shower was perfect!! The morning we left, it rained and we ate our breakfast looking out over the river. Thank you for sharing your sweet cabin with us.

The vacation we just spent at the Cabin on the river was wonderful. The cabin is in perfect order and so darn cute. We enjoyed th forest around it so lush, the falls are a must see. The weather was great. The privacy was perfect. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants a comfortable clean and exceptional get away. We took a great deep sea charter with Prowler Charters, they were GREAT. We had the best ever clam chowder at the board walk in Coos Bay. The drives we took through the forest were pricless.

We were not disappointed in the least, the pictures and descriptions made us feel like we had been there before. My husband, grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay. It gave us a chance to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The cabin is set up so well in every way. We went clamming in Charleston and came back to enjoy home-made chowder. It was extremely quiet, and we all slept well. We drove part way up to the Silver and Golden Falls, then walked the rest of the way in. There was so much to see and enjoy. When we asked our grandson what his favorite activity on our trip was, he always said the cabin. It was my husbands and my favorite activity, too. Thanks for providing some good memories. Tom and Dee are wonderful to answer questions and we would recommend this property to other people.

This is a great little cabin right on the river. I arrived on a great afternoon and was able to enjoy the sun on the deck for a little while. It is so quiet and peaceful. Great little fenced yard for the 4-legged guest. The kitchen is great to work in and has everything you need and more. I travelled by myself with my dog Sadie (who also had a great time) and as a lone female traveller felt very comfortable and safe. The owners live just 2 houses away. The area felt very safe.

The cabin is very nice, comfortable and cosy, for a couple. The bunk beds in a very small extra bedroom may be suitable for children. The coffee table is very unique and well worth seeing. I urge the owners put a picture of it on the website. The cabin is very well stocked with good quality supplies and cooking utensils. You don't have to worry if you if you forgot to bring the sugar or oil for your cooking. There was a little snow on the ground when we were there. Just enough to make some of the area picturesque without being a problem on the road. The road is narrow and a bit muddy -- our car needed to go through a carwash after we left -- but our sedan had no trouble at all. You don't need 4-wheel drive. Golden and Silver Falls are only about 2 miles away. They are quite spectacular, especially from the top of Golden Falls. The path up to the top of Golden Falls is mostly an old road (closed in 1958) so the walking is easy. Its wide for a path but would have been narrow for a road. Meeting a logging truck on it must have been an experience. The path has a 200 foot cliff with no guard rails so I wouldn't recommend taking small adventuresome children up there. In the cabin there were several very well done books by Lionel Youst about life in the area in earlier days. Youst knows how to tell stories. Although the cabin is several miles up a one lane gravel road, it is not set off all by itself. There are several houses right next door. The view from the living room windows is of the creek as the pictures show.

Owner response: Thank you for your review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit. One of the exciting parts of visiting Golden & Silver Falls State Park, is that it is a beautiful drive and located in a state forest and working tree farm. The coastal mountains are unique and exploring them is one of the best parts of being on the coast. Our little valley is largely summer homes whose families have been a part of its wonderful history. Thank you again for taking the time to write and for visiting us.

My girlfriend and I drove up the coast on a whim and didn't want to stay in a boring hotel so we called the owner very last minute and were pleasantly surprised when she said she would be happy to have us. The "cabin" is basically a fully stocked small house with everything you could need from pots and pans, fishing poles and WiFi. There is a deck, a fire pit and the best part is the river comes up almost to the back door. We decided to stay there because it was somewhere different but next time I am bringing my fishing pole as we saw most of the locals fishing up and down the river. It is also about ten minutes away from two huge water falls (Gold and Silver falls) that are a must see. I’m sure the owner would love a little more notice but, her willingness to take us last minute meant a lot to us and shows you who you are dealing with. Thanks, we will be back!!!

Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your visit. It is steelhead season right now and since "The Little Cabin" has 80' of private river frontage you have an advantage of not having to share with other fishermen. The Millicoma River is a great place to fish for steelhead, trout, and salmon. There is no fishing in March and April, but there is crabbing and ocean fishing out of Charleston. If fishing is what you want to do while at the cabin, let us know and we'll help make your stay the very best!

My wife and I left behind the kids, the dog, the jobs, our phones, the computers, and anything else remotely connected to our hectic and stressful lives. For two weeks we read, cooked for each other, hiked, sat in the river in a lawn chair and basically enjoyed the neat and tidy Little Cabin. For a change of scenery, Coos Bay has all the amenities, and the surrounding area has lots of diversions, from the amazing Oregon Coast to the Dunes, to the quaint pubs and book shops of town. The Gold and Silver Falls are a must see and the hosts were an absolute pleasure to deal with, and talk to while we were there. We've traveled lots - from Rome to Dublin to Miami and if you want to get away from it all, Little Cabin is your spot. Thanks again for a great vacation It was just what we needed.

Do you like the coastal forest but would like to enjoy sandy beaches? Do you miss the sunset over the ocean horizon, but the kids demand a campfire in a wilderness setting? Would you love to prepare a juicy BBQ in the evening surrounded by mountains and pristine forests, but also have a craving for a wonderful seafood buffet? You can have the cake and eat it too! The Little Cabin makes everything possible at the same time, thanks to its strategic location up the beautiful Millicoma River. The cabin is close enough to Coos Bay and the beaches (or the US101) to enjoy a great sunny day in Sunset Bay or Bullard Beach (you ought to yourself to comb that beach for agates and jaspers!), while retired enough from the crowds to close that very same day with juicy ribs cooked "al carbon" (with charcoal, provided by the kind owners), on your own deck facing the river running slowly in front of your grill... oh yes, if you have children, that is not the closing. There is a firepit right by the river for a wonderful campfire, while you wait for the last sunlight to fade away and open the amazing view of the Milky Way! Meteorites count competition anyone? We could go on and on detailing all the wonders of this rental, but we have to leave something for you to explore and discover. This experience will be full of surprises, all of them great and inspiring. What really makes it exceptional, though, is the owners. You may find another rental with some of the character and amenities that this one offers (although we doubt it), but you won't find a cabin as loved and taken care of as this one. Quoting the owners, "this is our baby", and they make you feel it. Everything is clean, organized, the attention to detail is awe inspiring, the taste in decoration is amazing... if you think you will need something for your vacation, be it 3 days or 15, forget it... everything is there, in the beautiful cozy kitchen, from flour to exotic spices. If you happen to have an exquisite taste for something missing in that kitchen, don't worry: the owners are there for you! And that, in the end, is what makes a perfect vacation idilic: the human touch. The owners provide that, in any way possible. They will make you feel as part of the familiy. They even took our children for a boat ride in the river. Where else can you find such a complete commitment to a rental? Only in the Little Cabin... take it, you won't be dissapointed!

Owner response: Wow! Thank you for letting us know that you enjoyed your visit. Our goal has always been to make our little cabin affordable to families, and our guests to feel welcomed, comfortable and relaxed. It sounds like we did just that. And yes, you are right, the nights here are pretty spectacular. Glad we could share our little piece of heaven with you and your family.

We stayed at The Little Cabin on the River in July, 2011, for almost a week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay thanks to our kind and thoughtful hosts, Dee & Tom! hey were great about offering insight to local places and things to do. It was relaxing, quiet and just what we were looking for in our Coos Bay vacation. The cabin has been tastefully renovated with all of the amenities of home. It was spotless and included a great soaking tub. The view off of the back deck is spectacular. The river is crystal clear and is right behind the cabin. We spent a couple of days hiking around the area and just enjoying nature. There are beautiful waterfalls within two or three miles of the cabin. Additionally, there are other state and county parks on the way to the cabin. We went into Coos Bay a few times to pick up fresh fish (right off the boat downtown), visit the Pre museum and just enjoy the harbor view. One of the day trips was to the dunes north of town. The area is rich in tradition and steeped in hospitality. Everywhere we went people were more than happy to help. Truly, The Little Cabin on the River is a vacation we will always remember.

I rented this cabin for two weeks during December and had a lovely stay. It was nice and quiet, comfortable, a true getaway. It was nice to look out the big windows at the river flowing by and watching salmon swimming in the water. The cabin has a living room (I love the wood coffee table!), full kitchen area with dishes and appliances, a dining area by the big windows overlooking the river, a nice bathroom with separate shower and deep soaking tub, a bedroom with the most comfortable big bed and soft sheets and warm blankets, and a small room off the bedroom with bunk beds. We had a telephone, a television and dvd player with dvds to choose from, and books and magazines to read about the local area and the pacific northwest. Our hosts also left us some additional goodies like popcorn, cookies, and hot chocolate mix. I definitely recommend this cabin as a vacation rental. Though I never personally met the hosts, I spoke with them over the phone and they were wonderful people. I hope to rent this cabin again next time I'm in Coos Bay visiting.

My family and I spent the Thanksgiving holiday here and were pleasantly surprised to find this little cabin so comfortable, very relaxing and quite fun. We sat at the table and played games while watching the river roll by. Listening to the rain on the roof was so peaceful, and the Jackson's made us feel very welcomed. We took walks and watched the fish jump which was very cool. We will definately be back.

Your cabin is very nice. You have done a great job on the remodel! The kitchen is well stocked with spices, etc. and there are plenty of dishes, utensils and tools. The bed was very comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed the books on the local history, very interesting! Enjoyed our stay. Paula & Mack, Roseburg, OR
