Great Cruz Bay villa description
Blue Skies Villa is located in St. John's popular upscale Great Cruz Bay area. It is on a picturesque and quiet estate road with similar rental properties. Access is extremely easy, as it is located within two miles of Cruz Bay, yet you will enjoy total privacy. You can see Blue Skies' distinctive blue roofs as you drive towards to the villa. Pull into the ample parking area, and walk up to the villa on the native Island stone stairs that are lined with bougainvillea and Oleander. You will find the villa to be charming and understated--with an emphasis on ease of living, relaxation, and comfort.
Two structures make up Caribbean Blue Skies – a Main House on the upper level, and a Guest House on the pool deck level (the pool is large by Island standards). Large, wrap-around decks connect the structures, providing plenty of places for sunning and to enjoy the outdoors.
The villa features a bright, airy ambience--with tile floors, skylights, ceiling fans, and cushioned rattan furnishings. The full kitchen has every appliance you could need, including ice-maker (with purified water), blender, microwave, toaster, electric crisper, and, of course, a stove, dishwasher, sink and oven. The two air conditioned king master bed/baths are decorated in Caribbean colors and are appointed with art that was gathered from around the world. Each bedroom has its own private deck area. One master bathroom features fabulous hand-crafted Caribbean stone walls, and a romantic double shower that faces toward the sunset. the other King Master can be made into twin beds if you wish. The bathroom for this bedroom features a double sink and toilet that can be converted into a powder room. A flat screen TV, stereo/DVD, and WIFI is provided.
The Guest House has two more bedrooms, both full of color, and both with double doors that give you immediate access to the wrap-around decks. Each bedroom in the Guest House is a queen, with its own air conditioning and bathroom en suite. One of the bathrooms contains a bathtub for soaking. A kitchenette with a small refrigerator, sink, and microwave makes it easy to enjoy some time away from the other guests.
Enjoy fabulous views in three directions, including two different bays. To the North you can see Great Cruz Bay Harbor and the beach at the Westin Hotel. To the West, you look out over Pillsbury Sound between St. John and St. Thomas, and you will be treated to glamorous sunsets.
You will enjoy St. John at its best when you stay at Blue Skies. The large swimming pool is perfect for an early morning dip. The best breezes on the Island will enhance your enjoyment of the sunset at cocktail time. You will also enjoy the second mini-kitchen on the pool deck where cold drinks can be handy. The gas barbecue grill makes meals at home fun to prepare and with any luck tasty and nourishing.
Dining can be indoors, or make use of the large outdoor teak dining table that seats eight. You can also take a short walk to the Westin Hotel where you are welcome to enjoy any of the restaurants as well as the beach and sport facilities.
The grounds at Caribbean Blue Skies are lush and mature, and full of color. Something is always blooming and fragrant. Walkways extend from the bedroom decks to other areas of the property, or you can just relax outside your bedroom and enjoy nature. We take pride in the natural beauty of Blue Skies.
Every bedroom has double doors that lead to the outdoors. The extra-large wraparound decks afford views in three directions: Sunset view over St. Thomas, sailboats in Great Cruz Bay, and Chocolate Hole. Short stroll to beach, sports, restaurants, and exercise facilities (including tennis) at the Westin Hotel.

The Guest House needs a work
The Guest House needs a work
The main house, the pool, and the views are pretty great. However, there was an good amount of work that needed to be done to the guest house and property in order for it to be safe and inhabitable for the 4 guests staying in the guest house. Upon arrival, our group discovered numerous hornets nests around the pool area and entryways to the guest house. Thankfully, the onsite handyman was there by the end of the day to help remedy that situation, and if that was the only issue, this villa would have received exceptional reviews from me. However, that was not the case. One of the guest rooms needed a great deal of work - the dry wall was peeling off of the wall in the bathroom to the point there were holes in the walls and dust all over the floor and the shower curtain rod had been ripped from the wall so that it was resting on the top of the shower wall and would fall every time we closed the curtain. The shower curtain itself was covered in mildew. The in-wall AC unit did not blow cold air, so there was no real relief from the humidity in the middle of the night other than sleeping with the windows and doors open with the ceiling fan running. Our bath towels had holes in them. Our beach/pool towels were so thin you could see through them. Our linens were dirty so that all of the residents staying in the guest house broke out with a rash on our bodies, particularly my face. This experience was very different than that of my friends staying in the main house, who had plush towels, working AC units, and renovated bathrooms. The other bathroom in the guest house was also renovated. However, the main house did have an ant problem, and the wireless is nonexistent, so please do not plan on working remotely while on the island as I had planned to do. I will say that my fiancé and I got the bad end of the stick when it came to room selection, but I would be weary to stay in this villa again unless I had certain knowledge that the accommodations had been improved.

My family and I stayed at Blue Skies a few weeks ago and found the villa to be exceptional. The fit was perfect for my husband and I, our 4 young adult kids and our son-in-law. It was very clean, in excellent shape, fully outfitted, comfortable and had great views of Great Cruz Bay, St Thomas and the Westin. The grounds were lovely with it's trees, bushes and gardens. My husband and I have stayed at a variety of villas in the Virgin Islands and we always noted that the photos of the villas seldom matched the actual villas. Usually they looked like they had been taken 10 years previous. Blue Skies is the first villa to look as good as its photos! We were able to save some money by cooking breakfast and some suppers at the villa and enjoyed eating on the deck and watching the boats. The breezes kept us cool and we only had to use the bedroom A/C's occasionally. The pool came in very handy after a day snorkeling at the beach and in the evenings for a refreshing dip. The location was convenient to grocery shopping, Cruz Bay and the Westin, where we rented 2 dinghies for a 3 hour tour of the North Shore. The next time we come to St John with the whole family we will definitely be staying at Blue Skies.

The House is perfect for four couplesGuest comment entered by owner
The House is perfect for four couples
We are a group of four couples—two from San Diego, CA and two from Reston, VA. The Kageys organized the trip. This is their 5th visit to St. John. This house is perfect for four couples. The kitchen is well stocked. All appliances worked. Landscaping is beautiful and large deck with breathtaking views was well used, as was your library. Thank you for letting us appreciate your art work. The house is close to town, Star market, and Westin. Weather during our stay was 30-40% showers, but we were never rained on. Mostly rain was at night. Winds from North created swells on North facing beaches, but Bays on South side were calm—Lancheshir, Hanlover, Hurrican Hole, etc. for snorkeling. Suggestions for your stay: Breakfast at Maho Bay campground (they stop serving at 9:30 AM) Beautiful deck with view of Maho Bay. Lunch at Skinny Legs. Shipwreck, The Beach Bar. Dinner at Morgan’s Mango, Lime Inn, ZoZo’s. Favorite Snorkeling spots: Little & Greater Lamesur Bays, Jumbie, Oppenheimer, Haul Over, Day sail on “Breath” from Coral Bay to Hurricane Hole and New Found Bay.

Location, location, and views!
Location, location, and views!
Our family had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at Blue Skies Villa. We were there for three weeks and luckily had perfect weather. The house is in a great location with incredible views of the harbor and St . Thomas. We had breakfast each morning on the deck and cocktails and dinner in the evening watching St. Thomas light up like a Christmas tree. The location of the house is perfect as the town is only a ten minute drive and there are two markets very close by. Taxi service to the villa is good so if you are having dinner at one of the great restaurants (we loved Zozo's) you don't need to be concerned about driving the rather dark roads. The house is comfortable and there are decks galore. We truly enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I last stayed at Blue Skies about a year ago. It was our third visit to St. John and our second stay at Blue Skies. We can’t say enough about the Island or the villa. They compliment each other. We think that Blue Skies is the perfect place to stay on St. John. We can’t imagine a better environment to enjoy the natural surroundings and be extremely comfortable at the same time. Blue Skies is close to the Westin so you can easily walk down for a massage at their exercise facility, or you can use their tennis courts and restaurants. There’s a Starbucks bar in the little deli! Look up from the Westin and you can see Blue Skies’ iconic blue roofs nestled in the hills above the hotel. St. John has the best beaches of anywhere we have ever been—and we have traveled quite a bit. We rented a Jeep for our stay and found that there is always some new place to experience and explore on the Island. We’ve decided that our favorite beach is Honeymoon Bay. You get there from Caneel Bay. You can park in the Caneel parking lot (last year they made you pay for the privilege unless you spend money at the hotel, which we did for lunch). You walk on a path by the water for about 10 minutes to get to the beach. It’s worth the walk. Another option is to rent one of those inflatable boats at the Westin and arrive there by boat. We did that and it was worth the price because we packed our chairs in the boat (it was $90 for the four of us). A couple of days we didn’t want to leave the villa. We hung out in the pool all day, had lunch on the pool deck, and relaxed with a good book (the well-stocked library had some interesting options). The villa is simple and elegant. There are magical touches everywhere. It was perfectly clean. Everything we needed to prepare meals at home was there—pots and pans, appliances, toaster oven, electric wall oven, and glass top stove (even an electric crisper). There’s a teak dining table for eight on the deck (looking out to St. Thomas) and there’s a table for six (that can accommodate up to eight) for dining in doors. The fridge has an icemaker (with purified water) so there’s no problem about making mixed drinks. We did buy water to drink, although we were told that the water in the kitchen sink is double filtered. The owners told us that they buy water to drink too. There were flowers for us in every room. What’s more, the flowers were gathered from the beautiful gardens that surround the house. Every bedroom has its own access to the

Year Purchased: 1994
About the owner: We've loved St. John since we first discovered it in 1976. Looking back, there's nowhere we've been that can equal St. John for natural beauty. Our ambition for our villa was to create an atmosphere where we could feel part of nature, but where we and our guests could also feel comfortable. We love Blue Skies and we think you will too. As one guest reported... 'How healing this place is! Only light and breeze and laughter here. How fortunate we were to stay in such a beautiful villa. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. I leave a gentler, happier person.'
Why the Owner Chose Great Cruz Bay:
We had the good luck to come upon Blue Skies in 1994. We were staying at Caneel Bay that year. One day we took a stroll by the water's edge until we got to Cruz Bay. Along the way we talked about how great it would be if we had a place on St. John and we agreed that we probably couldn't afford to buy. We checked with an agent in town and had our fears confirmed. As it happened, the next day we were playing tennis at Caneel and my partner was a real estate agent (she was also the wife of the then manager). She said she could show us lots of houses in our price range and the next day, she did. Our bid was accepted and before we knew it, I was engaged in the renovation of what was then a 17-year-old house built by the previous owner who was in the construction industry. The location of Blue Skies on Great Cruz Bay Road is prime. It has the best views and the best breezes in the area. That's not surprising because the former owner could pick and choose the location for his home. The area was barely developed when he established the residence. It's been a labor of love for us ever since the day we closed the deal to buy the house. We might not have been able to afford a more grand house but we couldn't have found one that had better 'bones' or more potential. To start, I spent most of the year on Island converting the villa into the comfortable residence it is now. There is not one interior wall that remains from the house that we bought. The exterior is entirely changed as well. Of course, we added a pool and created an easy connection between the main house and the guest house. We visit St. John as often as we can - usually four or five times a year. It's where we come to enjoy family occasions as well as down time with our friends. Lester and I also love to travel. Wherever we go, Blue Skies is present in our hearts and minds. You'll find items that seemed appropriate for our Caribbean getaway that were collected from all over the world. Enjoy!
