Cricket Lane: Stunning Sunsets, but needs TLC.
Cricket Lane: Stunning Sunsets, but needs TLC.

My family of four recently stayed at this beautiful cabin on the lovely Lake Douglas. Though the cabin was lovely, large, and the SUNSETS were postcard worthy, there were missing details and touches that would have made the stay much more enjoyable. First, the rental company staff was always helpful, polite, and professional on the phone, however, the informative email that guests receive a day or two prior to the stay (after money is paid) is a little on the abrasive side. The email lists (in bold print and all caps) several rules of the house....which is fine...but the tone is that of a bitter renter waving their finger at a dozen wild college kids. My husband and I felt like we were being scolded before we even entered the cabin. Phrases like "don't just start pushing buttons", when referring to the hot tub, were condescending and over the top. The ironic thing is that, though the list of instructions and rules is vast, there is surprisingly zero information on how to operate the home security system...we did not know that we were not allowed to use it during our stay...and the cops showed up after we accidentally set it off...TWICE! Good news, the police get there quickly! But, by far the most annoying issue with the cabin was the dirt and grime. I get it...it's nature...there are bugs and cobwebs and raccoons and blah dee blah...but filthy floors, disgusting windows, and red and black mold growing on 4 of the 4 shower curtains in the house is pitiful. My husband and I seriously considered going to Walmart and donating new shower curtains. A $25 upgrade to make it feel a little less frat-house! There are signs in the house that remind you to use the "starter" products and replace them for the next guests...things like laundry detergent, dish detergent, and condiments are supposedly provided by the home owners for our convenience. No such luck! We got some bleach, an empty container of dish soap, half used salad dressing, and additional cabinet products that might have dated back to the civil war. Gross. I hope you love nature...because you will get plenty of it. Our stay included a beetle that crawled out of the bed sheets as we turned them down for the evening. If you love Christmas...that's good too...because the cabin was still decorated for the season (this was late August). This property/home has the potential to be a gem and a fantastic and convenient getaway. The home is for sale. It feels like the owners have not been back for ages. Needs TLC!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: My husband and I worked for Eastern Airlines. Jack had 35 years with them when they closed and we lost everything-the first Enron. All our stocks were worthless, lifeinsurance gone, we continued with a small dog kennel I had started-Crikett Lane in Walland Tn. After our experience with stocks we decided to invest in property when the time was right. I operated the kennel and a bed and breakfast during the last days of Eastern so we looked to similar interests. We are now retired and renting our home in Dandridge and one at Big South Fork.
Why the Owner Chose Dandridge:
Dandridge is a wonderful old and historic town. Douglas Lake is lots of fun. So here we are looking for a future. In 2007, Douglas Lake had just about dried up, our home creek was dry and our pond at Big South Fork was empty. With rose colored glasses we bought this cabin in Paradise Landing, on Tranquility Trail as a sheer act of faith in the future.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
This cabin is well decorated for the holidays so you can enjoy them with your family. The kitchen is ready to roast your turkey, mash you potatoes with a heavy duty mixer. Shop, see the lights in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg then come home to serenity.
Dandridge, the 2nd oldest town in Tennessee treats it's guests with charm. Halloween special night, Christmas and Santa with all the old stores participating. I love Dandridge!!!!
