We rented Joyful Passage for three nights as we attended graduation at JMU. The house is very comfortable and is well stocked with kitchen supplies that made for a comfortable stay. The owner was very helpful and house has been well maintained. When in the area, make a trip to Hank's Smokehouse and order the ribs! Yummy!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: So glad you enjoyed yourself :-) We look forward to having you again!

We rented Joyful Passage for the second year in a row and were not disappointed. The house is perfect for our family since our two kids and there three cousins can be downstairs playing Wii while the adults can relax upstairs. It is centrally located between the ski resort and water park and offers a great layout with sizable kitchen and eating area. The owners are great to work with and very attentive to their guests. Highly recommend.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This home was clean and well represented in the photos. The kitchen was fully equipped and user friendly. The beds and sofas were well worn and not especially comfortable. The weather did not cooperate with skiing, but the indoor water park was worth the cost The homeowners were not easy to work with. I would not rent this property again or recommend it to a friend or relative.Owner response: Communication with the renter was fine until I told her I would be keeping a portion of the security deposit to fix the hole in the bedroom wall and a broken table. Please see other reviews for ease of communication with owner. Sorry we did not meet your expectations but thank you for staying with us, and thank you for taking the time to write a review :-)

Just got back from three nights at Joyful Passage and we are ready to go back for more! House was exactly as described and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay- games, gas fireplace, well equipped kitchen, really easy access (loved not having to keep track of keys!), very convenient location just inside the Massanutten gates. We had a great time on the zipline tour and enjoyed the beautiful trip up to Skyline Drive where we took a beautiful waterfall hike. Its not often you get to see autumn leaves and snow on the ground! Easy to get to Luray Caverns, found most everything we forgot but needed in Elkton (and Ciro's- a great little Italian place). Also enjoyed a few evening hours at the Water Park! We loved the floor plan of the house, the extra space added by the downstairs family room, all the brochures and pamphlets of area attractions provided by the owners, extra blankets, full size fridge, crock pots.. they haven't missed a trick! If you're thinking of a hotel, think twice! This house is only a little bit more BUT everybody has their own room, you can do your own meals, have family movie night and watch deer in the woods from the dining room. It couldn't have been a more carefree and pleasant stay.. even the teenagers wanted to stay a little while longer getting back to nature, resting and relaxing. We can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: You don"t know how great this makes me feel!! This is what we shoot for and to know we hit the target does my heart good :-) Looking forward to your return trip !!

Our family spent a three day weekend in JoyfulPassage and loved it. The home is very clean and well appointed. Our kids loved the basement with board games, toys and Wii. The kitchen had all the utensils and cookware we needed. The layout is great because the bedrooms are separated from the main den and there is a full bath for those staying downstairs. The house is very well located being approximately half-way between the ski resort and the water park and the neighborhood is quiet with very little traffic. The owners were great to work with, communicated well and were very concerned that we had what we needed and enjoyed our stay. Will definitely be renting JoyfulPassage again Eric B 1-27-11/1-20-11Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

The birthday party was fun! We really enjoyed your place and it worked great for our group of sisters! She was totally surprised and we had a ball playing Encore and then another sister brought Just Dance II which we played on the Wii. We have wonderful memories of our weekend get-away and will never forget our 70 year mother dancing to “Monster Mash.” Thanks for a lovely, affordable weekend! Did you enjoy your stay at Joyful Passage? Very much! What did you like best about the house? Lots of "hang out" room, close to everything we wanted to do, quiet road. How was the cleanliness of the house? Excellent Is there anything that would have made your stay better?? I was surprised at the lack of "paper products" - low on TP, tissues, paper towels, and only 2 trash bags ( Owner comment : renter is only started out with paper products) What was your favorite part of the mountain? Everything! Probably the water park, though, since even the youngest of us were able to go to that. Would you stay at Joyful Passage again?? Definitely!!!! And we particularly appreciated the owners responsiveness whenever we expressed a need!! Dawn C 12-27/1-2-11Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

About the owner: My husband and I have known each other since we were 13. We both had a secret crush. Our fathers worked together, we lived less than a mile away from each other, rode bikes together and went to baseball games together with our dads. We lost touch with each other over the years, but one day when I was 39 years old, he called me! Long story short, we each lived a full life in that time but we were brought back together again and were married in 2003. We are opposites but balance each other beautifully. We still ride bikes and go to baseball games. The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful life.
Why the Owner Chose Massanutten Resort:
My parents and I have been coming to Massanutten Mountain since 1990. The area has grown so much since that time, but it just keeps getting better! The first time my husband spent time on the mountain he was hooked! We decided this was where we wanted to eventually retire! We bought a house on the mountain and we decided to rent it so others can fall in love with Massanutten Mountain and Virginia's Shenandoah Valley!!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You can do as much or as little as you want. You can either....stay at the house and relax....it's so quiet , surrounded by trees and wildlife or....use the house as home base and go out and explore all day!
