  This was our second time staying in this suite at Honua Kai. This visit was every bit as enjoyable as the first. This suite is perfect for a diverse group of travellers. The first time we stayed with one other couple, and brought our kids and young grandchild for our second. The layout and amenities were perfect in both situations. Entering the suite, you walk into a large, fully-equipped kitchen open to the living area. You are able to make all your meals while still feeling a part of your vacation group. This living space extends onto a spacious lanai. We walked past a number of hotels and noted that our lanai space was definitely the nicest of them all. We had the large glass-paneled doors open for the majority of our stay - feels like you are living in the outdoors. Most of our meals were enjoyed in this space - space to accommodate a large group. Our grandson loved the fact that he could watch many different varieties of birds from the deck. Two bedrooms and two baths extend off of the main living space. My daughter and son-in-law used one while we used the other. They had more than enough space to have their two-year-old sleep in the king-size bed with them, but were pleasantly surprised to find a playpen in the closet. More than enough closet/storage space to allow you to avoid "living out of a suitcase". LARGE bathrooms. The lawn chairs and snorkel gear provided were put to good use and we were able to see some beautiful fish, coral, and a number of turtles at our beach. The pool space was amazing, with several different areas - hot tubs, large pools, water slide, kiddie pool, waterfalls. We could have just spent the entire week around the pool. Tons of friendly guests willing to recommend different spots and restaurants to visit, all easily accessible from the hotel. We had Mother's Day brunch at Duke's and the service and food were great. You can walk along the beach path past Black Rock and Whaler's Village. Fun to go and eat at the Hula Grill and enjoy the crowds in the village at night. We will be back!

  The condo was better than expected. The layout is perfect with 2 bedroom suites and a main room in the middle. The lanai was large and had a nice partial view of the ocean...actually it's better than just partial view. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms huge. Overall a great value.

  We stayed at Honua Kai this November and had a lovely experience. The condo contains everything you could want to enjoy beach and pool. The lanai was a favorite spot for eating and relaxing. We used the kitchen extensively and it had every tool we needed (it didn't have oil or salt though, as some fully-equipped places do). The market in the lobby supplied us with some of the items we needed, including lots of gluten-free and specialty items. The nearby supermarket proved indispensable with a wide range of foods including organic products. We made frequent use of the pools. The nearby beach was great for our small kids with gentle waves. For bigger waves we traveled south. We were hit with pretty strong tradewinds for the first half of our visit, which I hear is typical for November. Luckily those died down after a couple of days so we could enjoy the most of the Hawaiian sunshine. One weirdly annoying thing was that the alarms on the dryer and dishwasher don't shut off by themselves. The first night we started the dishwasher when we headed off to bed. An hour later we had to get back up to turn it off. So, don't make our mistake!

  The condo at Honua Kai that my girlfriend and I rented in September of 2012 was beautiful. We arrived and were greeted by bell staff who took our things to our condo on the second floor. We had already been texted our key entry code by the property manager which made our access quick and easy. We opened the door to a beauiful, immaculate two bedroom condo with all the amenities. We immediately felt at home with a great kitchen, living room, very large lanai and wonderful bedrooms and bathrooms. The beds are so lush and comfy!. The condo is very quiet and peaceful and offered us a great place to relax and unwind for a wonderful 8 days. We so appreciated the "fun closet" and took advantage of the snorkel equipment and beach chairs. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed Duke's restaurant and bar for great food and drink, the great swimming pools and the beach. So great watching the sun set from the beach. All in all I can't say enough about how great the condo was. We can't wait to go back!.

  We had a fantastic time in Maui, made even more pleasant by arriving and being able to check-in as planned to a condo that was very accurately represented through the listing on VRBO and my email exchanges with the Shotwells. Their unit is clean, conveniently stocked with all you would need in the way of kitchen items, linens, beach items, etc. The wi-fi, TVs, a/c and fans worked great. The bathrooms were modern, clean, and spacious for a condo. We would definitely recommend this rental to anyone else going to the island. Thanks for a great stay!

  This was my first experience staying in a VRBO property. The thought of staying in a condo in Maui, instead of in a hotel room, was appealing, but I was nervous, never having dealt directly with an owner before. My worries were quickly eased, however, as the owner took the time to answer my many questions. Any emails were answered promptly and courteously. We also appreciated the fact that we were met, upon arrival, in the front lobby of the resort, by the very friendly and helpful property manager. We found the condo to suit our needs perfectly. There was plenty of space for our family of 6! The two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms were wonderful. It was great to be able to close off the bedroom doors if the kids went to bed early, if someone was napping or if some of the family were sleeping in, so that others could hang out in the main living area without fear of disturbing anyone. We also appreciated being able to use the air mattress, so that we could keep the sofa intact for watching TV or DVDs or hanging out and reading. The lanai was wonderful, and we appreciated the privacy it offered. The kitchen was amply stocked, and it certainly allowed us to save money on meals, as we had stocked up on groceries at Costco upon arrival. We also appreciated the washer / dryer, as we could wash clothes as needed. The proximity to the elevator was great, as we had lots of gear along with the 4 kids! The children loved all of the pools and we had an amazing experience one day at the beach in front of the resort when a Monk seal swam up close and then came right up on the beach right near us! That was a thrill for the family! Thank you to the owners for sharing your condo with us. It certainly was a great choice for our family!

  Recently had the pleasure of staying in this unit. We congratulated ourselves for choosing this unit every day of our stay. We found the photos and description of the unit to be very acurate - the unit really is as it appears: spacious and beautifully appointed! A fully equipped kitchen and quality bedding/linens ensured a most comfortable stay. And special mention must be made of the thick beach towels and fantastic variety of beach toys in the unit - all of which added to our enjoyment. Five stars for a first class condo.

  "Absolutely Lovely" i was very satisfied with this property. It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The rooms are quite spacious, and easily accomodated our party of five people. The kitchen was very well stocked with utensils and even things such as spices for cooking. The unit also contained a variety of items such as beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkeling sets for guests to use. Some highlights include the large lanai with a partial ocean view, where we dined, relaxed, and watched some awsome sunsets. The huge bathrooms with separate tubs and showers and double sinks were beautiful. For entertainment the unit has ipods dock, free wi-fi access, high end flat screen TVs in living room and bedrooms. This is a great property for a family or small group. .And may I say, the location is fabulous. This is a great beachfront property. The resort also contained several large swimming pools, a restaurant on site, and a great convenience store in the lobby. A large grocery store is located across the street. The town of Lahina which has lots of restaurants and fun shopping is only a few minutes away by car. Finally, the manager was very friendly and accomodating. I also found the concierge service at the resort to be very helpful in arranging excursions and just giving me advice and suggestions for fun activities. I also spoke several times to the owner, Mr.Shotwell, and he was very courteous and helpful. In fact, the Shotwells seem to have thought of everything to to make their property a complete and and nearly perfect vacation destination. And as always, the island of Maui is simply gorgeous. i highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a spacious high quality vacation rental.

  Hokolani 210 exceeded our expectations. The Shotwells have thought of everything. It is a wonderfully comfortable 2 bedroom/2 bath outward-facing condo. There is a credenza in the sitting area that has a drawer filled with info on the area and another with "beach-reading” books. There is an eating table for 4 and also 3 stools at the kitchen counter. The kitchen is fully equipped. Cupboards and drawers have everything you need (foil, olive oil, steak seasonings etc). The laundry had detergent and dryer sheets. The "fun closet” has everything you could possibly want (beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach pails and swim noodles). The bedrooms are large and the king beds are comfortable (feather mattress pad and down blankets & pillows). There are two big bathrooms with plenty of towels. Each bath had a travel size pineapple-scented shampoo and lotion to get you through the first couple of days. The lanai is possibly the best part of the condo. It faces the Westin Villas (about ½ mile away) and looks down on a walkway that connects to the beach walk (a board walk). Honua Kai has 3 pools (one big pool, a lagoon type pool with a water slide and a lazy river). Although the pools don't open until 8 am, the chairs fill up immediately with "towel -chair savers”. The hotel market has yummy, but pricey treats (4 cupcakes = $20). The hotel restaurant (Duke's) is average. There is an underground parking garage ($10 per day) and also a self-parking lot that is free. There is a local grocery store (reasonable prices) that is about a 10 minute walk from the front of the resort. Thank you Shotwell family for offering the use of your vacation home. It was so nice to have such a comfortable place to stay after a long, lazy day in the sun. Hopefully your condo will be available on our next trip to Maui!
