Out the Back Door - Onto the Slopes - Stemwinder #6
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This is my private, 2 Bedroom, owners lockout apartment. Non Smoking. No Pets. It's 40 steps to the slopes. The unit is cozy, comfortable and well furnished. It accommodates 4 adults well or a family of 5 with someone sleeping on the full size leather sofa (not a pullout). Linens and towels are provided. I would say the unit is kinda like a very over sized, fully equipped two bedroom suite at Hilton's Embassy Suites except my unit sits directly on the slopes, in the most premier Ski In and Ski Out location that Snowshoe has to offer. HOWEVER,
IMPORTANT NOTE....PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
My Owner's apartment is located on the bottom floor of my four bedroom 'Gold Rated' townhouse. The upstairs is rented by Snowshoe. If there are guest upstairs, you'll hear light footsteps or kitchen table chairs being moved around. HOWEVER, SOMETIMES THE RENTERS UPSTAIRS ARE PARTY'ERS WHO LIKE TO THROW DOWN INTO THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING. This type of crowd will make a good nights sleep difficult. It is the exception rather than the rule but occasionally does occur.
Therefore, to compensate for this possible inconvenience, I have priced my two bedroom apartment very competitively for ON THE SLOPE ACCOMMODATIONS.
With that being said, here's some good stuff...
My apartment does not have a stove but if you love to grill (like I do), then you can fire up the Weber gas grill that's outside on the back deck. When I'm at the Shoe, that's what I love to do. Throw it on...hot and fresh, Bacon, Sausage, Eggs, Burgers, Dogs, Chops, Steaks Chicken and Kabobs. And for Stews and Soups, I've got a very nice Crock Pot. This place has everything you'll need for comfort. It has a Frig, Microwave, free standing Commercial table top gas burner for light frying, Coffee Maker, Blender, Toaster and electric can opener. There are plenty of utensils, dishes, cups and wine glasses for Vino. There's also a nice prep area for meals that keeps you in the middle of the conversation.
Here are some tips to get you around the mountain. Go out the back door, turn left and you're on the slopes (Powder Monkey Ski Lift). From here, ski left, and hit the best GREEN groomed cruisers the mountain has to offer. Or ski right and catch great BLUES. And, if you love BLACK DIAMONDS, don't go anywhere. At the top of the Powder Monkey Ski Lift are Snowshoe's famed Cupp Run, a long, groomed 1 1/2 mile Black Diamond Run and Shea's Revenge, a challenging BLACK for those who like to tag moguls. When you get to the bottom, enjoy some Brews and eats at Arbuckles. Slopes open at 9 and close at 4:30.
If you want to have a little R & R after the slopes close, then go out the back door and turn right. Walk about 3 minutes and you're at the Shavers Center. Here you'll find a Food Court and a 15,000 square foot Arcade for the kids. But if you're looking for a little Adult fun, hop into the 'Moonshine Watering Hole'. This is a great little bar where you can drink some beer, grab some bar food and listen to local musicians play. Upstairs, after 9, 'The Connection Night Club' cranks up. It's the perfect place to hook up for drinks, bar games, dancing and live bands.
And, if you're hungry and want to try out some of the mountain's best restaurants, head to Snowshoe Village. It's just a couple of minutes out the door from the Shavers Center. Grab some pizza at 'Cheats', some unique eats at 'The Foxfire Grille', some sushi at the 'Taste of Asia' or steaks, burgers and chops at 'The Junction Restaurant and Saloon'. Afterwards do a little shopping, have a SPA or head to the Split Rock to enjoy the pool and hot tubs.
And when the evening is finished, come on home. You're almost there anyway.
When you arrive at Snowshoe, the apartment is easy to find. It is located at the Stemwinder Two Complex and is accessed through the rear, downstairs entrance of Unit #6. Stemwinder Two is the second complex to the left of the Shavers Center. (Stemwinder One is the first complex to the left.) Stemwinder is best located by finding the The Shavers Center. The Shavers Center is in the middle of the mountain and best identified by having a huge Big Top Circus Tent out front. You can see it from the main road. Turn in at The Shavers Center and you will immediately see gated parking for the Stemwinder Two Complex. Once parked, face the complex and go to the far right hand side of the building. There, find steps, walk down toward the slopes and turn left. The apartment entrance will be the second door on the left. The walk is short and the walkways are lighted.
And since there's nothing better than being around family and friends, I know you'll have a great time. Enjoy your stay.

This unit is in a great location on the mountain! Just steps from the slopes, and only a short walking distance to the village but still completely affordable. We absolutely enjoyed our stay despite a small hiccup that the owner took immediate action to correct. The steep steps pictured have been replaced by much more gradual ones that are easy to navigate even with equipment/luggage. We look forward to staying there again next season. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a place to rest while hitting the slopes. Thank you Bull for a wonderful experience.Did you find this review helpful? The apartment was great, however, people above us very loud, dog barking, children moving furniture, just very inconsiderate people. Loved being able to jump out the door and be on the slopes (away from beginner slope) and loved skiing to basically the door. We could not find a way to open door in apt to store our ski gear. Neither key worked. Overall, great!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

This condo was in the perfect location on the mountain (step off back porch onto the slopes) and very close to all restaurants/bars/ski rental/etc. The property was exactly as described and the owner did a fantastic job describing the location and making sure that we had everything we needed for our stay (including keys a week early). My family would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My friend, 2 brothers and I stayed here for 3 nights w 2 full days of skiing. We are busy business men wanting something close to main slopes but not in the center of the village. This place is great. a 5 minute walk from main village, yet right on, and I mean right on, one of the most popular slopes. Some noise upstairs at rare times but a few ear plugs and never a worry. Price is fantastic for the 3 bed and nice living area. Bathroom is tight but very clean and nice. We are coming back and the owner is a nice guy to do business with throughout.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our reservation; however the owner was easy to work with and provided us a prompt refund on our deposit. Hopefully we will be able to re-schedule our skiing vacation and will certainly check this property for its availability!Recommended for: Families with young children.

Overall Stemwinder was a great deal and perfect location. Fit my family of five (with my 6 year old sleeping on the couch). The description provided by the owner was right on target. Beautiful view, right on the slopes! In walking distance to restaurants, shopping and entertainment. One big problem was the noise but the owner was very clear about this from the beginning. We brought ear plugs and sound machine (in anticipation) and managed to sleep despite very noisy upstair guests. I can imagine it would be very peaceful if we did not go on holiday weekend/had no one upstairs.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
