Inside, the spacious and airy two-story home is designed on an open floor plan, with wood floors and handsome rugs. The central focus of the living room is a large, comfy, u-shaped sectional sofa. Great home and location. Roomy for privacy and great kitchen/dining room for gathering. Outside pool, lounge chairs and picnic table used daily in between running and biking the trails, playing golf and going fishing. Perfect family vacation spot. This house was beautiful, huge, and actually even nicer than it appears in the pictures. It was well stocked and had an airy, expansive feel. Although we didn't have to use the room w/ the fold out sofa, it was a wonderful space and would have made a great bedroom if we had that many people. The outdoor spa was fabulous and we could hear the ocean from the deck. The upstairs sun deck allowed us to catch sun even after it dropped below trees in the p.m. We had a problem with the hot tub one afternoon and a call to the concierge was returned in minutes and a pool man was out to fix it within about 30 mintues. It was the best service ever. We felt fortunate to find this house and consider the rate a bargain.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family rents a beach house every year in a different location and this is the nicest house we've ever rented - it exceeded our expectations. The pictures do not do the house justice. It is in perfect condition with upscale amenities on the inside and outside. The pool and hot tub are amazing and if you enjoy grilling they have a top of the line gas grill. The walk to the beach is short (less than 5 minutes) and easy with a paved path the entire way. The owner was helpful and very responsive before, during and after the rental. I would highly recommend this house!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway.

This home provided great accommodations for our family which consisted of six adults and three children. The youngest, at 15 months, had no issues getting around the home or pool. While beautiful, the home's furnishings and decor are study enough to handle the youngest little tikes. The short walk or ride to the beach was always treated as an adventure, with opportunities to check out the birds, fish, deer and alligators. The included pictures on this page do not fully translate the true spacious nature of the home. Also, the home owner is very responsive to guest needs, should there be any.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My husband and I and our three children (17 yrs.- 23 yrs) with their friends spent a delightful week in late June. The house is lovely and very comfortable. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there's such a nice view of the pond to enjoy while we barbecued or sipped our cocktails in the evening. The pool was central to our vacation. I love the beach, but it was hard to leave the comfortable lounge chairs or stop lazing in the pool. We have rented at Kiawah several times before, and I have never been more pleased with the experience. Thank you to the Kupfers for providing a truly memorable vacation home.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful family vacation at this lovely vacation home the second week of May, 2011. The house was in the perfect location - - easy walk or bike ride to the beach. We spent alot of time in the large pool. We also rented bikes for the week and spent time riding all over the island. The open floor plan gave us space to spend time together in the evening and the sun room and upstairs porch provided a private space for those who felt the need to get away from the crowd on occasion to read a book or work on their I Pad. The owner was easy to work with and willing to answer any questions we had. The pictures and descriptive write up were very accurate and the house was very neat and clean. Two activities we enjoyed while on Kiawah Island were the Adult Twilight Kayak Paddle and the Tidewater Treasures boat trip ( we saw lots of dolphins ). I would recommend this property to others.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

About the owner: We are a professional couple with four children who live in Pennsylvania. Having visited Kiawah as renters for many years, we knew it was the perfect spot for our family to enjoy the togetherness that is so hard to achieve in this busy world. Nature soothes our souls, so the wildlife views and seaside atmosphere are therapeutic. We know our older kids on bikes can explore the island in safety, while the younger ones have plenty to keep them busy here at the house. One of our children has a disability with limited mobility, so being very close to the beach is a must for us. We enjoy entertaining, and the house and setting offer our guests the chance to be social and also enjoy moments of solitude if they prefer. We're a family that thrives on flexibility, yet we like to be able to come together for meals, swimming, and other activities. That's why the house is perfect for us!

The combination of nature's beauty, the well-designed interior, and closeness to the beach made this house perfect for us. Because there is something for everyone -- beach, pool, bike paths, golf, fishing, or just going out for a stroll -- we know that all our family and guests will find plenty to do! Vanderhorst Plantation offers our favorite side of Kiawah: privacy combined with access to the resort's famous amenities. We never feel too far away from civilization, if we want a round of golf, or a fancy dinner out. But if we simply want to enjoy each other, we can do that in style.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
With the beach just a short stroll or bike ride away, kids can go back and forth from the house to the ocean without our help. With our pool just below our second-story porch and deck, we can keep an eye on things while we relax or work. There are plenty of spaces for privacy in the home, but the living room and sundeck give us a lively common areas. The quiet streets and trails are perfect for bike riding. Canvasback Pond laps up against our tree-filled backyard, which gives us the sense of being amidst Kiawah's natural wonder.
