Surf Bungalow at Puamana Gated Beachfront Community in Lahaina
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
The quintessential quiet 'Old Hawaii' plantation era experience, in a gated beachfront community, with private beach and surf break. Our Puamana bungalow is in a perfect interior community location, close to the historic 1920's era clubhouse and across from the tennis courts, just steps from the ocean. Our quiet getaway is a two bedroom, two bathroom corner unit town home, recently completely remodeled and decorated with tropical plantation furnishings. It has an expanded, private covered lanai, as well as tile flooring throughout. We have gorgeous plantation style chairs and furniture, a bright, new 42 inch LCD LED flat screen TV, and we are away from busy roads and the front gate. The kitchen now has granite countertops and a granite bar as well as dark solid wood cabinets. The upstairs loft has fabulous bright eco flooring and the bathrooms have all new vanities and the ceiling fans and light fixtures have all been redone as well.
Our bungalow is just 50 yards from the ocean, just a short walk with your board to Puamana's secret private surf breaks. Our place is close to the 'Ocean Pool,' which literally touches the ocean, which does not exist anywhere else in Hawaii. We love to sneak out at night to swim, and look out at the ships on the ocean and enjoy the tropical night breeze. Watching the sunset from the wide plantation clubhouse verandah, with the large palm trees along our beach, out to the island of Lanai, is an experience that cannot be replicated by any hotel or resort.
We don't know of any other place in Hawaii where you can essentially leave your car behind, and walk or bike from our bungalow to a place like historic Lahaina town, wander along the harbor and shops, and then go back at night for the vibrant tropical restaurants and galleries.
More than that, our bungalow captures the best spirit of this unique private community, which is unlike any other in Hawaii. When you come through the gate, time seems to slow down and you enter a forgotten era, of a historic Hawaiian plantation with its lush, manicured grounds. There are no high rises here. People drive slowly and use bicycles. We provide a relaxing place to read your book on our spacious lanai, or saunter over to our favorite room at the 1920's era clubhouse, and just sit in the plantation library and peruse the books on its floor to ceiling bookshelves.
Our bungalow has a new king bed in the large master suite downstairs, with a private bath and large TV in the room. The upstairs loft has two twin beds on one side and a queen bed on the other, with a TV upstairs for kids or guests. We provide plentiful linens, covers, towels, and pillows. There is ample air conditioning, with all three units, placed in the living room, master suite, and the upstairs loft. The kitchen is fully appointed for even gourmet cooks, with a complete set of dishware, silverware, utensils, cookware, and even a Cuisinart. The rental includes boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach toys, beach chairs, sun umbrella, and tennis rackets and balls. ID #41447670-01

We left Montana just ahead of a nasty spring snowstorm and a week of record low temperatures and arrived at Puamana to, well, paradise. Puamana was everything we could have hoped for as a girlfriend getaway destination. It’s comfortable, oh-so-clean and cool. We enjoyed the first night out on the lanai with a bottle of wine. During the day, there was everything from towels to tennis equipment ready for us to use. The kitchen was perfect for preparing lunches and even a pina colada or two for happy hour after we’d spent the day in the hot Hawaii sun. The condo sits on a gorgeous property that is about ten steps about away from an amazing ocean view. The grounds are immaculately kept and all the guests and residents are incredibly welcoming. You won’t be disappointed by the amazing flowers that bloom in abundance across the acreage. The “quiet” pool that sits on the ocean is a place where you’ll want to spend plenty of time. We read and lounged there for two entire days there. We’d make the short walk to Lahaina most mornings and hit this great little coffee shop (Ono’s) for iced coffee and amazing croissants. We walked back several times for dinner as well. Lahaina is a gorgeous and welcoming town whether you’re after some tourist shopping or a great dinner with amazing views (Fleetwood’s). We just couldn't have had a more relaxing vacation at Puamana. I can only hope I’ll get to go back someday SOON.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My friend and I went for girls getaway trip to get out of the cold Montana weather. This place was AMAZING! The condo felt like home away-from-home and was equipped with everything we needed. It was extremely comfortable, modern and clean. The cozy lanai provided lots of fun nights to enjoy dinner and share laughs with friends. Puamana is a fabulous gated community featuring a tennis court, badminton court, three pools and access to the beach. The ocean side pool was great for days of reading and relaxing. We went there in the evening too and enjoyed a cocktail while listening to the waves crash on the shore and looking out over the ocean in the light of the moon and stars The owner was exceptional at answering any of our questions and providing suggestions, so we could experience Lahaina like a local. Lahaina is a quick walk into town and we walked there every day and sometimes even twice a day to enjoy the town's charm. We went to the Sunday Arts and Crafts Market, shopped at local boutiques, found our favorite coffee shop with amazing croissants and enjoyed great restaurants and fantastic rooftop dining our final evening. I can't say enough positive things about our stay here and I will definitely be coming back in the future!Recommended for: Girls getaway.

What a fantastic spot for a couple or a family! We've stayed at the resorts at Ka'anapali and I can't say enough about how much fun we had here. Way more relaxing and laid back. We have three teenaged boys so finding nice, affordable accommodation is a challenge - especially since they are all over 6 feet tall! This charming, little bungalow was perfect for us all. NO arguing at all as each kid got their own bed! The unit was super clean and comfy - it was better than we imagined from the pictures and write-ups! The kitchen was equipped for prepping almost any dish you could imagine, right down to skewers for veggies and prawns on the Weber bbq! The lanai is inviting and we spent many hours relaxing, sipping mai tais and reading our books in the hot noon times. The walk in to town is doable for the day or evening, but if you need to get lots of groceries you will need a car. The surfing beach was great for beginners and experts alike. It was a bit far to carry a SUP and paddle but if you have wheels, no prob. Surfboards are easy to get there. The owners have thought of everything. It felt like home away from home and a place that is filled with plenty of happy memories. We would love to go back some day - highly recommend this unit!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our family has really enjoyed our week in your lovely condo. Puamana is just what I had hoped it would be-quiet, peaceful and much less dense than the resort area north of here. Your condo feels home-like with all the of the books, family pictures and your boys hand and foot prints. My daughters, 6 and 4, had fun in the loft with their own tv. Thank you for providing wifi- we brought our ipad and our girls could watch netflix:) Lahaina was a cute town and we loved trying shave ice from various restaurants. We loved burgers from at Cool Cat Cafe. MahaloDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I and our two daughters (ages 6 &4) truly enjoyed our week at this bungalow. My husband was attending a conference at the Hyatt, and we wanted to stay somewhere other than a resort. Puamana is uncrowded, laid-back, and has lots of great amenities like the clubhouse, tennis courts, 3 pools, and tennis courts. And of course it's basically on the beach! This bungalow is a great value considering it's proximity to the beach. Even though it doesn't have a view of the beach from any of the windows, it's about a 45 second walk there. The pictures of the unit well-represent the property. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The unit is pretty much completely remodeled with the exception of the showers, but they're just fine. The tub in the second bathroom was draining very slowly when we arrived (and we really needed the one with the tub because of our two young daughters) and Leann who works at Puamana and manages the unit was very prompt in helping us resolve the situation - plumber was there and took care of it in the space of a few hours. :) The upstairs loft was a bit cramped because of the steep ceiling, but since it was just our daughters sleeping up there, and I think they loved the cozy feeling and "their" own TV and space, I'd recommend it for families with children over about 4 years old. I would not be comfortable leaving a child 3 or younger up in the loft since the stairway is very open. Also, aside from the three barstools shown in the picture, there isn't another place to sit and eat inside the unit. There is a large table on the lanai, but we kept getting bitten by mosquitos when we'd sit out there, so we opted to eat inside much of the time. The unit has quite a nice library of books, including an entire shelf of children's books which my daughters really enjoyed. Especially the books about Moki the Gecko :) There are also a number of DVDs to watch. If you come with young kids, we highly recommend Baby Beach in Lahaina. Take Ala Moana St. off of Front St. and park at the end by the Buddhist temple. The waves break out on a reef offshore and the water is shallow, so it is perfect for kids! We tried 5 or 6 beaches in West and South Maui and this was shallowest one with the least waves. Kamaole I in South Maui was our 2nd favorite beach, more waves, but still fairly shallow. Lastly, we loved Cool Cat Cafe on Front St. in Lahaina across from the Banyan tree park. Perfect for kids, and great burgers.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for writing such a detailed review. That is so helpful. We hope you come back and stay again. All the best, Natalie Moog

This was our 7th stay at Puamana and as always, we just loved it! We brought my 88 year old mother along and the condo worked very well for her. We used the loft & it was very comfy for the "kids" (we are in our 60's!) Beds are so comfortable! Thank you for sharing your beautiful Maui paradise!Did you find this review helpful? Why the Owner Chose Puamana:
We have a family with kids. We wanted a place where they could have fun and be safe, and we didn't have to drive them around. We've been coming to Maui for ten years, and have never found a place quite like this. We don't like high rises or hotels very much, and most condo complexes seem nondescript to us. We wanted something more like a home, but with the feel of a very special resort. We were very fortunate to find a large, recently remodeled unit away from the road, in this community. It is also rare to find a freshly expanded corner unit available on this property. We wanted an easy to use bungalow which had the unique advantage of a beach and surf break within walking distance, and was also safe for our children to ride bikes around, since everyone drives slowly in Puamana. We love to ride our bikes and walk, and this place feels like more of a vacation since we don't have to drive. Lahaina being so close makes for an easy night out to dinner or galleries or the theater.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
My typical day includes waking up early to go surfing, coming back to our bungalow for coffee, then riding my bike to Lahaina for the paper, and then eating breakfast at our bungalow or by the ocean. We then spend our day swimming in any of the three different pools, particularly taking our kids to the big children's pool in Puamana, and sometimes reading or walking around in Lahaina. Then we might play in the ocean in the afternoon or make dinner or get take out and walk over to the clubhouse to watch the sunset.
