Available as a long term winter rental too. This exquisitely restored/renovated Antique cape (circa1790) has been featured as the front page article for Down East magazine. The spacious home (2700 sq.ft) is nestled on 83 private acres of meadows and woodlands with a half mile frontage on the pristine Sheepscot River and is located in the historic Alna village which includes Head Tide. It is also just a mile from the picturesque Sheepscot Village The home features 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 3 fireplaces, fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, Dish TV, wireless internet, satellite radio, den, studio, a sun-filled river room overlooking the scenic pond and Sheepscot River. Period details abound with 24'pumpkin pine flooring, color washed plaster walls, wrought iron hardware, plus hand painted stenciling and murals.

With extensive meadows, over 2 miles of cleared hiking trails and a half mile frontage there is plenty to do for the hiker and outdoor enthusiast. The property includes a canoe and two kayaks. For the fisherman the river is well known as a striper river . Wildlife includes an incredible number of birds (eagles, turkeys, songbirds), moose, deer, porcupines to name a few.

Three couples stayed at the Alna Cape in Fall of 2011. Relaxing, comfortable, with every amenity you need. Loved the area, we went on day trips all week and would go back every year if possible. So much history and the local towns are so charming. Owners keep info on all the best restaurants and places to visit. Can't wait to go back!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I was able to spend a week at this rental property in late June and found the house CHARMING and the location perfect for one seeking solitude from the stresses of work and city life but close enough to the coast for town adventures. While the house is dated 1780, the facilities are updated with modern bathrooms and kitchen and TV. Washer and dryer are located in a cool basement cellar. River outings were easy with the owner's kayaks and canoe available at the river. Would recommend this rental to anyone and hope that I will have many return visits for my perfect Maine vacation!!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Alna:
We love unusual, unique properties with lots of acreage that can not be duplicated. This fits the bill. Being from the deep, hot and humid South we love the weather year round. We have also been impressed with the genuine hospitality you find from the locals- It probably helps being just a bit off the beaten track- but still only 15 minutes from two great towns- Damariscotta and Wiscasset.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Hiking, Canoeing and just plain relaxing. Everyone knows about the great Maine seafood and the kitchen, grill and dining areas are well prepared for casual or formal dining according to your desires.
