Hartnett's Bluff House sits above a private rocky beach, close to the surf of the Atlantic Ocean. The house is a new construction (built in 2010 by the owners), cedar-shingled post and beam home that boasts an open concept layout. The main floor is open space flooded with views of the ocean from every angle. It contains a well-appointed kitchen with granite and butcher-block countertops and stainless steel appliances. There is a beautiful dining area with a large granite table that seats 6, and a living area with a comfy sofa and chairs perfect for lounging with friends and family, and gazing out at the ocean sunset. The main floor is complete with a powder room and a quaint seating area perfect for a game of chess or cards.
The upper floor reveals a gorgeous master suite with a heavenly king-size bed overlooking the water. A peaceful on-suite bathroom is complete with double sinks and a classic antique claw foot tub. There is also a cozy sitting area with comfortable chairs, ottomans, and reading lamps perfect for curling up with a book at the end of the day. A separate space off of the master has a small room with two twin beds that can be joined to create a king-sized bed, and makes a great kids room.
The lower floor contains a third bedroom with a queen-size bed with ocean views. The third bathroom is complete with a large open tiled shower, double sinks, and more windows looking out onto acres of rosa rugosa. Guests will also find a bonus entertainment room with a flat-screen TV and an L-shaped sofa which pulls out into a double bed for additional sleeping accommodations. There is also a laundry room with an energy-efficient washer and dryer for guests' convenience. Doors lead out onto a large deck complete with lounge chairs, a BBQ, a cold-water outdoor shower, and hammock, perfect for cooling off and relaxing after a long day at the beach!
Adjacent to the house is the path down to the private rocky beach, an excellent place to surf-cast and catch striped bass and bluefish, hunting for driftwood, shells and beautiful beach stones. Later in the season, this serves as a popular surf spot on the island, and provides a great spot to watch the surfers brave the waves!
The house runs exclusively on solar-power, with a wind-power back up source, and is most suited for the ecologically-minded. We hope this will attract guests who wish to leave a low carbon footprint, and have respect for the conservation of energy and resources. This will ensure the most comfortable and enjoyable stay in our home!
The property is located on the southwest corner of Block Island at the end of a rather long dirt road. The road is usually kept in good condition, which should allow easy access by any car. Since the house is located about 3 miles from town and the swimming beaches, a car is necessary. Due to the location of the property, the home allows for the privacy and tranquility that is most prized on Block Island.

My 5 sisters-in-law, my niece and I spent the weekend at the Hartnett house in October. The weather was beautiful which helped to make the whole weekend extremely enjoyable. We spent most of our time sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean. The view and sound were amazing and soooo relaxing. The house is away from town-private and peaceful. The rocky beach is a great place to sit and watch the sailboats go by. The house itself is beautiful and the view from every level is amazing. Erin was extremely accommodating, which really helped us out. This was the first time to the island for all of us and I know we will be back again. Thank you for sharing your wonderful place with us!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We enjoyed our stay at the bluff house. It is in a wonderful location--very quiet. The view out to the ocean was great and we spent much time watching the surfers. The Hartnetts were attentive to our needs and went out of their way to work through some minor issues with the electrical system. My one caution is that the location of the third bedroom, off master bedroom on the top floor, is not ideal for all groups. We had three couples and it was awkward for one of them to have to walk through the master bedroom to go to/from their room. The description above is clear about this arrangement, I neglected to read it closely. One suggestion for our hosts, given the goal of green living, an outdoor clothesline would be a welcome addition.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children.

We wanted to get away and do nothing and that was exactly what we did. The biggest decision to make is were to sit and enjoy the view and sounds!! This home is beautiful and extremely relaxing. You can not beat the environment if you want to get away from it all. My disabled mother was able to relax and enjoy herself. She loved the views!!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, people with disabilities, families with young children, girls getaway.

I just returned from a week long stay at the property-I enjoyed our stay-the home is definitely in a remote part of the island which is ideal for getting away from it all. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is ideal as there are some dirt roads you need to drive on but nothing too bad. The view of the water from the deck is simply awesome. We enjoyed grilling and having drinks overlooking the ocean. The house is on a rocky beach so it is not great for swimming but I brought some rock shoes and my surfboard and made my way out to the water a few times. I wish we figured out a way to get our kayaks there as that would have been ideal as that side of the island the water is pretty calm. I enjoyed surfcasting from the property as well however the striped bass sadly were not too cooperative that week but I did manage a few. I hope to return to the house next year but we decided one week for us was too short as time really flies by Thanks for sharing your home with us-it was my first of what I hope is many trips to the islandRecommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

LOVE this house! We had so much fun here on our great getaway! The house is perfect - wide open floor plan so you don't miss a thing while you're hanging out on the couches, mixing cocktails or cooking dinner. It was a perfect set-up for (7) busy, hard working Moms to escape. The sound of the surf was soothing and the patio/deck was a great spot to unwind (just need chair cushions). Good workout walking the beach - definitely need sneakers. Owners, Sean & Leslie were very hospitable. Hope you liked the treats. We look forward to making this an annual tradition. Thank you!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: We're so glad you enjoyed the house and your visit to Block Island! Please do come again. We'll get on those chair cushions.... (they were in our shed, sorry) .... and we'll be adding more lounge chairs, umbrella, etc. We all thank you for the delicious treats! Best wishes, Leslie and Sean

My wife and daughter and I just spent a wonderful ten days at this house and had a fabulous time. The layout of the house, with bedrooms above and below the kitchen/living room floor made it ideal for both privacy and family time. Each time we returned to the house from a trip into town there was a great sigh of relief at the peace and spiritual feeling in the air. The beach had more beautiful rocks in one place than any other I have ever seen. The appliances were new, the house well kept, and all in all it was the perfect getaway spot. Kudos to the owners.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
