"THE BEST VIEW ON THE ENTIRE EAST COAST!" Come spend a few weeks in Marblehead - in an exclusive, upscale neighborhood (our street is a private dead end road) on a rocky bluff overlooking the North Atlantic. With views to the south and east, watch everything from luxury liners to kayaks drift by as you gaze over a magnificent seascape from our party sized deck - or, for that matter, from any room in the house- even the driveway outside!
Tall pines, cliffs, coves, islands, and open ocean beyond... Lighthouses, lobster boats, yachts, and sailboats... Sea gulls, seals, and occasional swans complete the picture. It looks more like the coast of Down East Maine, but it is all right here - less than 20 miles from the city!
OUR TOWN... Marblehead is an artist/fishing/yachting community on a peninsula along Boston's beautiful North Shore. Our house is on the very tip of that peninsula. Wander the winding narrow streets past the harbor front and experience a festival at one of our seaside parks. Old sea captains' mansions, restaurants, shops, and the village grocery store are all within walking distance. The original painting "SPIRIT OF '76" hangs in our town hall. Bicycle to historic Salem, Massachusetts, with its newly renovated Peabody Essex Museum, House of Seven Gables, and Witch Museums.
Drive to nearby sites of the American Revolution, Cape Anne, or spend a day shopping in Boston. Gloucester- setting for "THE PERFECT STORM"- is visible across the harbor. The dunes of Cape Cod are a two-hour drive south, the ski slopes of New Hampshire's White Mountains are two hours to the north, and Maine is only one hour to the northeast. New York City is three and a half hours away.
ABOUT THE HOUSE... From our landscaped driveway and patio, walk up several steps onto a small deck, past the new six person hot tub, and into the first floor of the house. This secondary, but often used side entry leads to two bedrooms- one with a king sized bed, the other a queen, each with its own bath, both with amazing water views. There is also a laundry/storage room, complete with a washer and dryer.
With the bedrooms on the lower level, living spaces occupy the second floor (with a higher vantage point above the water) - the main front door entry, kitchen/dining/living room (with vaulted ceiling) - all in an open arrangement around a central fireplace. A half bath and a series of storage/pantry closets complete the interior, but it is the 20ft. x 40ft. exterior deck, with its commanding ocean view, that is the main attraction of this floor. We just completed a new pergola to provide shade for half the deck and a little rain cover above the gas grill. Lay back in the hammock or have dinner overlooking the cove- plenty of deck furniture.
The roof line of the house follows the steep contour of the land up to the newly renovated third floor. There is a small office/library in a loft overlooking the living room- along with a second [smaller] exterior deck. Behind a door is a large entertainment/guest suite with a cathedral ceiling, kitchenette [small fridge and microwave], 60 inch flat screen TV with Hi Def and surround sound, and bathroom [shower]. Some of the best ocean views are from up here. A spiral stair extends up to a small sleeping loft with a king sized bed, two twins, and a fold out couch below- allowing privacy for a family of five. We just completed a separate rear entry and exterior bridge to a rocky ledge behind the house, making this room more like an apartment. The entire place is very neat, fully stocked, fully furnished, and has cable TV / DVD in most rooms. An ELECTRIC-GLIDE inclined lift on the stairs assists the elderly and/or disabled between the lower bedroom and middle living level.
Come explore New England from this wonderful vacation house - or just relax on the deck while you enjoy the cool ocean breeze and magnificent view. Follow the stone steps down to our neighborhood beach - part of a protected cove, directly below. Kids love tide pooling - discovering small marine life as the salt water rises and recedes each day. The plastic shovels, pales, kayaks and water toys are waiting, along with several bicycles!
