  We have stayed at the cottages twice now and will be back as often as possible. Most reviews are about amenities and things to do nearby...the cottages have just about everything you need however we never wanted to leave (so I'm not going to provide any nearby amenities info). BBQ'ing, walking the beach or on the trails, fires in the fireplace (and on the beach), and watching the abundant ocean wildlife was plenty for our vacation. The Whisler family are wonderful to work with and responded quickly to our questions/requests. My only hesitation in writing this review is that others will learn about this amazing place and the availability will be reduced! We are looking forward to staying there again in the future and will be bringing more family and friends to share in the experience!

  My husband and I have rented many homes on VRBO. We have always been happy with our rentals,but this property is #1 with us. Everything about this experience is just excellent. The owners are very professional and helpful. The property itself is drop dead gorgeous. I have been going to Carmel for my April birthday for many years and this cottage is the best gift I could ever have! The cottage is clean,comfortable and has everything you need for a long stay. The view and the postion of this home gives you the glory of the ocean along with privacy, and a stunning view of the sunset each night. There is also a great walking trail right outside the door which gives fabulous views of the ocean and Carmel. This cottage is not to be missed. We have already booked for next year and hope to stay a bit longer next time. Thank you to Patrick,Mark and Sara for the gift of this glorious place.

  We rented the Whalers cottage and it's two neighbors for a week in November. It was simply amazing. The cottages were warm and comfortable, fully stocked with anything you could need for your week stay, and even the little things you don't expect in a rental. The views are breath taking and the location could not be more perfect. The cottages are secluded, yet still accessible to all of Carmel. I can not say enough good things about the cottages or their owners. We look forward to returning in the coming years!

  We had a wonderful time at this location and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a private location on the ocean front. We stayed over memorial weekend and even though the town was busy it always felt very private at the property. In addition we were able to have a vacation that included our dogs. We greatly enjoyed all of the available trails for hiking and the whale viewing.

  Our family vacation at the cottages was wonderful, enchanted - just magic! The location is unsurpassed - right on the beach. And the views were spectacular - even better than the photos posted. At every vantage from the cottages, you see the beautiful water, blue sky and sea life. Beautiful sunset dinners, cozy family bonding by the cottage fireplace and s'more desserts by beach campfires were a staple of our vacation. And after full days, we were lulled to sleep by the waves of Monastery Beach. The cottages are perfect, clean, attractive and superbly outfitted with everything one could need for day-to-day convenience or even to bake a birthday cake for a family member :) The cottages blend the charm of an antique shop with the efficiency of a cruise ship cabin. Tide pool exploration (sea anemones, starfish, snails!), mountain biking, hikes at Point Lobos and excursions to Carmel and Big Sur punctuated this first visit of our group: grandparents, parents and grandkids ages 7 to 20 + 1 dog. We hope this will be the first of many visits. Thanks to owners, Patrick and Mark. They are terrific and wonderfully accommodating. Oh, and order the delivery of firewood. (Thank you, Pat!) You won't want to miss out on a moment of those campfires.

• Serenity at the Beach

  Our family of 5, 3 adult children, 2 girls and a boy, oldest girl just graduated from Berkeley, stayed for a week, and we wanted to stay longer. A perfect setting for a family reunion. Outstanding location. The grandeur of the Ocean shore preserved, with casual hiking paths, and benches at scenic locations along the coast-line bluffs through the state park next door. Carmel by the Sea is within minutes to your north, and Big Sur to your South, beginning with Point Lobos, from which you can see the "Monastery" and the Whalers Cottage at Monastery Bay. As a result of the steep drop-off of the ocean floor and strong rip tides, the beach is not suitable for swimming, but scuba divers were seen frequently entering the water while we were there. Within minutes of supermarket shopping [and internet at indoor Starbucks in market]. We stayed at the Whalers Cottage. It was comfortable, in character with its cottage setting, the feel of a second home with unforgettable views of the clouds, and coastal shoreline. The owner was a pleasure to work with, very accommodating and reliable. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS WONDERFUL PLACE

  What a beautiful, incredible ocean setting - wow! The views were spectacular and the sounds of the ocean waves were so relaxing. Getting back to nature like this is just what we needed; it is so good for the soul. There is no other place like this in this section of the California coast. What a gem! We look forward to returning to enjoy the beauty, the nearby hikes and the fresh air!

  Our family stayed in Sea Otter for week this past August, and loved everything about the cottage, its comprehensive amenities, and fabulous location. You are (quite literally) just a stone's throw from the beach, and can BBQ and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the otters and sea lions enjoy the waters of Monastery Beach. We were impressed by the comprehensive kitchen amenities (every tool and appliance you could ever want), as well as the high-quality linens and overall appeal of the cottage and grounds. The fireplace was wonderful, and we truly felt a sense of complete privacy while at the same time being only five minutes from downtown Carmel. It was a completely relaxing experience we hope to repeat very soon. Highly, highly recommended for a family of four or even for a restful couple's getaway.

  After a few months of looking for a place for our honeymoon we found these cottages. We choose cottage #2 so we had the master bedroom over looking the ocean. I have to admit I didn't think the view would be this amazing. Staying at this cottage was the most amazing vacation/honeymoon I could have asked for. The fire place, the ocean view, the coffee we drank on the porch watching the waves crash in was a dream. The owners of this amazing place were the most compassionate people I've met. This cottage was amazing. I thank the family and rental agency for everything they did for us. We will be back with our children to make memories with them and share with them the memories we made.
