3 Minute Walk to Beach, Sun, Surf, Fish - Relax -
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This two bedroom, two bath cottage is a short walk from the beach. Beach front homes are forbidden by law to keep the natural area intact. You may walk to the beach through the jungle with pesoti, land crabs, monkeys and other wild life or you might bypass the jungle and go on to the beach. The house is air conditioned for those who prefer, but there are also screens on all the windows and front door for those wanting fresh air. There are ceiling fans throughout and floor fans are available upon request.
The kitchen is stocked for cooking family meals; however, with the best laid plans of most who stay here, the restaurants are so many, convenient and good that most people throw away more food than they cook. Enjoy a nice day at the beach, whether sun bathing, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, fishing, walking or just reading a book. Then head to La Dolce Vita for fine Italian, Marlin Bills for freshly caught fish, Harbor Reef for a burger & fries, Giardino Tropical for pizza, Robins for a healthy sandwich and home made ice cream & cookies, Freddie's for local cuisine or any of the other fine eateries.
Some days you may spend the whole day by the pool just reading or napping and others you may go on one of the great guided quad rides. The next day you might spend half the day on a zip line through the rolling hills or horse back-riding. Canoe trips are great fun and a night trip to the turtle beach can be most rewarding.
There are shops for buying local craft. The local woodcraft and pottery is excellent.
Hopefully you packed light! There is a laundry room off the back bedroom with a washer & dryer to keep those beach clothes feeling fresh. Indoor surf board storage is provided so the boards can be kept inside, but not in the way.
If you just have to keep in touch, there is free secure WiFi in the house and on the front porch. There is a phone for local calls. (Local calls in Costa Rica are anywhere in the country).
Or, just maybe you came to attend the International Yoga Institute.
Come, relax, enjoy!

My husband and I and our 14 month old daughter just spent January 2013 here in Nosara. It was an amazing month full of warm, sunny days, great waves, delicious food, and all the yoga you could ever want! The home was very comfortable and easily accommodated our guests throughout our time here. The kitchen was pretty well stocked and we were able to cook at the house quite a bit (easier than going out to eat with a toddler). But there are so many great restaurants here (La Luna, Beach Dog Cafe (right down the road - a 2 minute walk), The Gilded Iguana, Rosie's for lunch, Robin's Ice Cream) - you will not go hungry down here that's for sure. Anyway, the pool was nice but we didn't end up using it much because it doesn't get a lot of sunshine. Silvia and Bobbi were extremely accommodating and we really couldn't have asked for anything more.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed you stay in Nosara and our home. Thanks for taking the time to comment. We would love to see you for a return visit.

Loved this place, it was our home away from home. We were 2 couples but would be suitable for a family too. The kitchen was fully stocked, we cooked dinner for 2 weeks. It was quiet and clean and felt safe. The fridge was amazing with its water filter and ice maker. We missed that when we left to another town. It was a close walk to the beach. I would say it was one of the best locations to be at in Nosara.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Michelle & Tersa. It was kind of you to take the time to provide a review. We are so glad you were pleased with everything and the new refrigerator. You are the first to comment on that the old one was adequate; however, since I enjoy cooking I wanted a better fridge. Thanks again and we are glad you enjoyed your stay.

We stayed at casa Reef nine days in January and we loved the place! It is clean, very well decorated, comfortable and close to the beach Bobby, the lady Manager is very helpfull and she knows the area very well With all the trees surrounding the house, we did not need the AC very often We will definitely go back at this great place and we strongly recommend it Anthony and MJRecommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Anthony & M.J, Thanks for your kind words. We do believe that our little nitch in paradise is one of the best kept secrets in Costa Rica. We are so pleased to hear from people that have enjoyed the place and the staff as we do. Please, do come again!

Casa Reef was exactly as advertised. We loved it & would definitely recommend it to family & friends. The owner & agent were responsive to our every need. The staff were friendly and efficient. We ate in as well as frequented the excellent local restaurants. The facilities served all our needs. We were able to walk to almost everything (we're 70 & 68 yrs. old). Nosara is laid back & quiet, but offers everything us Gringos need. We will try to return as soon as possible.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: Paul & Delores, Thanks for the kind words. Paul when you were at the house you mentioned the drain chain clinking against the roof. That has been repaired. Next time you won't even have to wash dishes. We had a dishwasher installed just right of the sink where we also added a garbage disposal. Be well and we do hope you can come again soon.

What a wonderful relaxing experience my family had at Casa Reef in Nosara, Costa Rica. From the cleanliness and quaint setting surrounded by local flora to all the conveniences of home; it was a delight. My wife and I could not believe the dishwasher & washer/dryer. With the beach close by, our son enjoyed the indoor surfboard storage. The TV, DVD and computer connections were a nice touch. Thanks for your hospitality. As with this visit we look forward to our next trip.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind comments. We are always happy when we hear from people, like yourself, who have gone and enjoyed our little piece of paradise. Please do come again

I;ve been to Nosara three times and hope to enjoy it again. The home is very comfortable and nestled next to the jungle where you can enjoy daily visits with Howler monkeys and an assortment of other wild life. Recent upgrades will make vacation living even more comfortable. Walks on the beach are five minutes away. Surfing can be very good. Lots of good eating options if you don't want to cook. It is laid back living in a tropical paradise! The property is well maintained by friendly people. Photos do reflect the home's apprerance. It is my favorite place for total relaxation.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Nolonger Stressed, Thanks so much for your kind words. We so enjoy the house and love to hear that others do also. We have done some remodeling. The main think was to update the back bath and add a full laundry. Please do come again!

My husband and I went to Nosara for our honeymoon. The house is great - only a short walk down the "monkey trail" to the beach. There's nothing quite like waking up or going to bed to the sound of the howler monkey! The house has a great kitchen, but we really didn't use it b/c the food at the local restaurants was so good and affordable, who would want to cook? The "ticos" (locals) are very nice and friendly to travellers. We went back to Nosara for our 1 year anniversary with another couple (stayed at this same house, again - we just loved it); we had flown into San Jose. We stopped at a roadside restaurant to get some dinner before we drove to Nosara and the owner was so concerned about us making the trip at night that he gave us his business card w/his cell # in case we had any trouble along the way! I have to say, this is like a secret paradise - you can relax and take it easy or you can have an adventure by exploring the dirt roads around Nosara or going on a zip line tour. My husband and I went to Belize last year for our anniversary and all we could do was compare it to Nosara - it didn't compare!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, we have always felt it was one of the best kept travel secrets. We love for people to enjoy the area and of course stay in our home when it is available. We do hope that it does not get overbuilt as so many of the beach destinations have over the years. We would love for you to come back soon. Then you can compare it to Belize. I suspect Belize will loose again. Oh, as a side note there is a new road from San Jose to Nicoya. It shortens your trip to Nosara by about 2 hours, down to about 4 hours. We are going in November and will take that route.

Absolute perfect vacation. The house is perfectly situated a short walk from the beach in the little jungle community of Nosara. It is the perfect balance between having ammenities and things to do close by but not feeling like a tourist at a resort. Where else can you see such beautiful flowers, crabs, iguanas, and monkeys hanging in the trees on the way to the beach! There are plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance but we loved having the kitchen and not having to eat out for every meal and there is a grocery store in the area. We had a great time learning to surf at the beach as well as horseback riding, zip-lining, and relaxing before dinner in the private pool. Will absolutely be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are glad you had a great time. It is time you come again. We have renovated the back bath, added a laundry room with indoor surf board storage. We hope you will return again soon.

This is a perfect getaway spot. My wife and I spent a week and thoroughly enjoyed the whole area. The beach is one block away and there is a lodge close by where you can rent surf boards, enjoy the dinning area and bar. The water is great with small waves near the shore, medium waves a little further out for beginner surfers and large pipeline waves further out. We found many places to eat with varied menus. There is also opportunities to go to nearby attractions like zip lining where we could see the monkeys in their natural habitat. If you want relaxation and the ability to enjoy the area this is a great place to stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: We are glad that you were able to enjoy our cottage at the sea. We enjoy the fact that the beach is so wide at low tide you can play soccer on the compact sand while the water is at low tide, or if you really want to be romantic, dance on the beach in the moonlight. Thanks and please do come again.

My multi-generational family spent a July week in this lovely, well-appointed home. Our 2-year old loved the wide, spacious beaches! My husband and I enjoyed that there was plenty of room to spread out on the beach without coming close to anyone else. The beach is huge! And my father, who is in his mid-60's also traveled with us. He loved...everything! Of course you come to Costa Rica to enjoy the beaches and the wildlife. But, being from Texas, we weren't sure what to do with the jungle! At first, it seemed intimidating so we walked around it (takes approximately 10 seconds longer!). But quickly we fell into its spell. As beach lovers, we enjoyed the long walks we could take on the beach. But, we started spending more and more time walking around the dirt roads that cut straight thru the jungle. Monkeys at the zoo are sure cute! But, they were nothing compared to our daily routine of watching their families travel through the trees from one destination to the next. With the diversity of our group, we had planned to eat in. There is certainly enough room to do so! But, the food was at once plentiful, amazingly tasy, and shockingly inexpensive that we ate out all of our dinners! We also enjoyed just checking out the flora. It is abundant, and it is beautiful! This house sits amidst birds of paradise that are as big as your arm! A lovely lime tree - that kept our beer happy! It also has a nice pool which was a refreshing way to end the day. The house was in great order. The owner was very easy to deal with. And he had a local manager that came to check on us. I would recommend this to any age group that traveled together. The two bedrooms were spacious enough that we were able to put our little on in the room with us and still had plenty of room. Thanks for the great stay! We'll be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Your most gracious response is greatly appreciated. I do hope that the cleaning lady (Silvia) also brought you fresh flowers for your arrival. She has the knack of cutting them just so they will last for a week or more. We would love to have you back now that the house has been expanded. The expansion was in early 2010. Thanks again for your kind words.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We went to Costa Rica in 2003 looking for a place to consider. We were in country for 72 hours when we found this house, then under construction, and bought it on the spot. It is the place we go when we want to be with new friends, take old friends to enjoy time together or just to have quiet time alone. If you enjoy doing the things listed in the write-up in a place where there are no train whistles, police sirens, factories spewing smoke and ash, cars doing 90 miles an hour (most speed limits are 55 or less, heed them and keep your money); then this may be the place for you.
Why the Owner Chose Nosara:
When you are in Nosara, be sure to wear your smile. Most everyone will say 'Buenos Dias', or some other greeting of the day. Don't be surprised if you are walking and a farmer in his truck or on a horse offers you a ride. We have had both happen. This is a great community with wonderful people.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
One of my favorite things to do is to get up early and walk the beach for an hour or more before the sun comes up over the hill to the east. It just gets me in the mood for a relaxed day.
