We totally renovated this apartment recently, sparing no expense.
We are one minute from the Metro Franklin Roosevelt station on the Champs Elysees, the most exciting street in Paris. You are right in the centre of the bustling city. You can walk to the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the high fashion houses on Avenue Montaigne, and the Faubourg St. Honore. Your nearby neighbor is Jacques Chirac, President of France. The Louvre is a 20-minute stroll through the Tuilleries Gardens. The great department stores (Printemps, Galeries Lafayette) are a 15-minute walk (or three subway stops) away.
Metro Franklin Roosevelt is on Line One, that follows the Seine, linking all the most famous tourist destinations in the city - Notre Dame, La Defense, the Marais, the Louvre, City Hall, the Bastille. You will find yourself walking most of the day, gazing at the beauty of the City of Lights. But it is comforting to know you can always jet back home on the Metro if the feet give out!
The apartment is furnished with antiques and classic French furniture. All the appliances are new and high quality. The kitchen is set up for gourmet cooking. Or, brew a cuppa joe and enjoy a morning baguette from the wonderful bakery on the corner.
The living room is on the street, bustling rue de Ponthieu, with a large French window (double glazed). We did research on the sofa bed. It is no torture rack! The mattress is six inches thick and there are none of those metal bars cutting across the small of your back. The big TV gets many English channels including movie channels, BBC, and CNN. Phone calls the the USA, Canada are free. Phone calls to fixed lines in Europe and the UK are also free, but you must use a calling card to reach any European cell phone. You must also use a calling card to call elsewhere in the world. There is a DVD player and a stereo with a growing drawer of CDs.
The dining room has another huge double glazed window onto the street, a dining table, and a 17th-century armoire which is a beauty. Hang your clothes in the space that might have once held the robes of Marie Antoinette!
The bedroom is on a rear courtyard, again with a big double glazed window. There is a queen-sized bed that has been getting raves for comfort. Reading lights on bedside tables, a little TV with VCR and DVD player, and a small clothes cupboard.
The bathroom has beautiful tile work, a tub with shower, a sink, a heated towel rack, and a Miele washer and separate dryer. Above the dryer is a storage cupboard for your suitcases.
The apartment has a good plan. People sleeping in the bedroom, or in the living room, can each reach the bathroom, the toilet, or the kitchen without intruding on the other space, thanks to the central corridor.
There is unlimited hot water, thanks to a demand water heater. Each room has a radiator with separate thermostat. There are two air conditioners.
Some of the appliances: the washer and dryer, Miele four-burner cooktop, Miele dishwasher, Siemens oven, microwave, espresso machine, automatic coffee maker, hand mixer, toaster, and hair dryer. We tried to think of everything.
There are two supermarkets within a five-minute walk, and several bakeries, butchers, green grocers, and a gourmet specialty shop in the neighborhood.
