I think the best comment about our week (We had both houses) is summed up this way. My 4.5 year old grandson had only one meltdown the entire time we were there. It was the morning we were leaving and he started crying "Mommy, I don't want to go home". He met new cousins, tubed, swam, went boating, hiked in Glacier....in short, he had a blast. Then today my 40 year old niece called and wanted to thank me, along with her Mom, for putting together such a great family vacation. We grew up on Flathead and it was a first family reunion there in many years. It was fun showing the kids and grand kids where we grew up. We selected this listing because one family member is paralyzed from the waist down and this was billed as accessible. Accessible can be all over the map in definition but both of these houses were truly accessible. We did have to drive her into Bigfork and put her in the boat to bring her back to the dock because of the incline but that was the only challenge we faced the entire week. GREAT location....we would go back for sure!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Should you feel the need, the Flathead Valley, with all its splendours and diversions, provides ample opportunity to explore, experience and expand your new horizons. The communities surrounding Flathead Lake, Glacier National Park, Whitefish Mountain Resort are all within an easy drive from this delightful lakeside retreat. Wonderful time, lifetime memories ... If you want a great vacation where you can hike all morning, swim in a lake that is so clear you can see the colors of the rocks, see the most amazing sunset and walk out on the deck to see a million starts then go to The First and Last Best Place. The house provides everything you could possibly need for the perfect vacation!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: In 1989 our family came to the Flathead Lake for our first family reunion. The impact of this event was so profound that six months later, our father bought property on the lake and built The Last Best Place guest house. He lived there while building the main house. Our father's dream was to have a place where his family would want to come together every year. Our family has been blesssed to have had this opportunity come true.
Why the Owner Chose Bigfork:
In 1997 our father sustained a strike, which limited his ability to fully enjoy The Last Best Place. It brought to our attention the importance of barrier free design and accessing the beautiful outdoors. Our family wants to make a difference in the lives of others with disabilities that visit the Flathead Lake regiion by accomodating their needs. The main house is fully wheelchair assesable. The guest house does have a lower level queen bedroom and a open wheel in shower.
