Caprese Michelangelo villa description
Welcome to Casa Cappellino - the Italy we all dreamed of experiencing.
Casa Cappellino is nestled among the Tuscan hills on 2.5 hectares (5 acres). The grounds are lovingly landscaped with ponds, olive grove, vineyard, fruit trees and flowering plants. Your vacation home is an independent stonehouse of your very own that has been beautifully restored to the highest standards and has retained the Tuscan charm with wooden beams, terra cotta ceilings, chestnut doors and windows, terra cotta floors and a wood burning stove. Your vacation home is designed for intimate, relaxing and comfortable living for all seasons.
An Idyllic Setting: Casa Cappellino is the realization of the true Italy we all dream about. The property is located in the true, genuine, Italian countryside far enough from the major tourism centers so that authentic Italian life can be experienced. Many of the local residents have never been further than perhaps 50 miles from Caprese Michelangelo their entire lives and are the most lovely people you could ever hope to meet. You will not find shops geared toward tourists or restaurants serving quick food far from ideal Italian cuisine. In our little corner of Italian heaven you will find the true essence of Italy.
Among the rolling Tuscan hills, you can explore the nearby hills, fields and streams bountiful with wild life, chestnut, walnut, mushrooms, rare ferns and wild flowers. The property overlooks a small tranquil village in which its proud residents have lived for generations in their family homes. Straight and elegant cypress trees, mountain streams with rapids and waterfalls adorn this charming little Italy village. A famous Tuscan restaurant 'Il Rifugio', that attracts patrons from Milan and Florence, is within a 5-minute walk of your holiday rental home.
Your House overlooks the beautifully landscaped grounds that provides a peaceful and secluded holiday vacation retreat for relaxation and intimate get-aways. The natural spring fountain on the property was a source of drinking water for the villagers in the old days. Now this fountain is a favorite gathering place for visitors at the villa. The veranda/terrace is an amazingly relaxing place to sunbathe, read, have romantic meals or stargaze into the night.
There are outdoor sitting areas where you can choose to spend the time with a bottle of Casa Cappellino wine by one of the ponds or under the grapevine covered pergola. The veranda/terrace of your house is completely private and it commands magnificent views across rolling hills to the birthplace of Michelangelo and a panorama view of Lama that lies in the valley below.
The house is a charming Tuscan home on two levels. It is built with stone exterior walls, wooden beams, terra cotta ceilings, chestnut wooden doors and windows, terra cotta floors. It has two big bedrooms with queen-size beds. The open kitchen, dining and living area with a wood burning stove are perfect for intimate and relaxing settings. The bedroom room on the lower level opens to the veranda with amazing views of Michelangelo's birth home and the small village of Lama below where our local grocery store and wonderful Il RIfugio restaurant are located.
Your vacation home is of course equipped with everything you could possibly need to feel 'right at home'. This includes a fully equipped kitchen, hundreds of channels of satellite TV, numerous classic movies for viewing, and WiFi Internet access throughout the property grounds and your vacation home.
We are centrally situated within easy access to major attractions. You can easily take day trips to Florence, Pisa, Bologna, Cortona, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Rome, or many of the infinite charming unknown Italian villages.
You are encouraged to read the reviews and contact us for more information. All of our guests have consistently said Casa Cappellino is much, much more wonderful than they ever expected.
Due to the frequent requests we have had over the years, we are now also offering to our guests authentic Italian Cooking Classes. These are wonderful events in which we shop in the local markets in the morning, prepare homemade pasta and other dishes in the afternoon (guided by one of our amazing local chefs), and then enjoy a wonderful meal.
We also offer guided hikes through the local mountains with picnic lunches for those hikes lasting more than 3 hours. A favorite morning mini-hiking activity for guests is taking a 30 minute 'hike' up the lane behind your vacation home to our nearby neighbor village of Fragaiola for a nice Cappuccino and Croissant.
At Casa Cappellino, it is our goal to make your stay the most memorable possible.

We stayed with Dennis and Kumiko for 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed the property. The villa is very comfortable and spacious. We spent most days hanging out on the balcony, enjoying the views. Through Dennis, we hired Maria for a on-site cooking class which was so fun and was the highlight of our trip!

We had a fabulous time there. Dennis and Kumiko made us feel right at home. I had a cap come off one of my teeth and Dennis took out most of a day to get me to a dentist and get it repaired. They helped in where to go all over Tuscany for the week. The property was beautiful and clean. We had lots of fun with them and even went out to dinner together on the last evening. The nearby town of Anghiari was our favorite medieval town and the food was great.

Delightful and good value
Delightful and good value
My husband and I and 2 friends recently stayed for 7 days at Casa Cappellino and it certainly proved to be as charming and comfortable as portrayed on the web site. We enjoyed the tranquility of being in this rural environment, yet with easy access to many of the lovely hilltop towns and tourist sites of Tuscany. There was much of interest closer to hand as well, such as the monastery of La Verna and of course the museum associated with Michelangelo's birthplace. The villa was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. Dennis and Kumiko were friendly and helpful hosts.

My wife and I have been traveling Italy this summer and spent four nights at the Casa Cappellino. Our hosts were most welcoming and the house was perfect in every way: quiet & peaceful. A welcome respite from the larger cities during our vacation. The views and grounds were gorgeous and the short walk to the quaint village was just perfect. Beautiful escape to the country. You can't go wrong with a stay in Caprese Michelangelo!

Fantastic 12-day stay, serene, beautiful, and perfect
Fantastic 12-day stay, serene, beautiful, and perfect
My wife and I stayed at Casa Cappellino for twelve days (we would have stayed longer if it hadn't already been booked). We had been looking for a quiet rental in a beautiful setting where I could work on a book project and my wife could finish a quilt. We ended up staying a week in Montepulciano and then coming here for almost two more weeks--I wish we had spent the entire time here. In a nutshell, this place exceeded all our expectations. The cottage is a typical small Tuscan farmhouse that has been beautifully restored to modern standards. The owner is a master landscape architect and gardener so we were surrounded by flowers and fruit trees, quiet ponds and a lovely vineyard. The views from the windows and the back deck were spectacular--long vistas out over the mountains and the small town of Caprese Michelangelo (I could see the house where Michelangelo was born from our bedroom window). Inside, the kitchen, bathrooms, and furnishings were all new and first-rate, and both the front patio and back deck had full-sized tables for outdoor dining (and in my case, a fabulous outdoor desk to do my writing). Our hosts were gracious and ever-helpful, attending to our needs and recommending local sites and eateries. We visited the Sanctuary at La Verna, a famous monastery and the place where St. Francis received the stigmata, we toured Michelangelo's birthplace, and we made several lovely walks in the nearby national park. As for food, we made most of our own meals at the cottage using produce from the local market, but the local restaurants were also very good, a far cry from the touristy places you get in the rest of Tuscany. I would highly recommend this place for couples or groups of up to 5/6 people. There are two bedrooms that can be configured with two twins (or one king), as well as a couch/futon. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, take long walks, eat good food and drink good wine, and take a few day trips to see the sights, this is the place for you.

We loved Casa Cappellino. The views from the patio were spectacular! It was nice to walk to Il Rifugio for delicious dinners. Dennis and Kumiko were great hosts! We highly recommend this rental. We miss Max and Ming. If we are ever in Tuscany again we would forsure rent here again.

All that we had hoped and MORE!!
All that we had hoped and MORE!!
What a wonderful 11 days we spent in Italy. Casa Cappellino was the perfect "home base" for our many trips out to explore Italy. We spent two days in the "big cities" of Florence and Rome, but the rest of our time we spent exploring the nooks and crannies of nearby towns and cities. Anghiari stole our heart with it's narrow, twisty, stone streets, wonderful artisans selling their wares at VERY reasonable prices and wonderful place to eat!!! On advice of Dennis, our host, we ate at the Al Cantuccio cafe in the corner of the square next to the Gelateria. The pizza was FAB! The Pasta DELISH! Biscotti....YUMMMMMMM. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! On our "down days" we just hung out at Casa Cappellino and enjoyed the pleasant quietness. The babbling brook, the quacking of the ducks and the wonderful terrace which we ate breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert on just made our Tuscan Excursion perfect! The fact that we happened to be able to see (and help!!!) in the bottling of last year's Casa Cappellino Vintage was the icing on the cake! All of our needs were met and both Dennis and Kumiko were wonderful hosts, willing to share their love of the country and all their many wonderful tips on how to best get from here to there as well as what some of the "must do, must see" things in the local area would be. Again, on their recommendation we popped over to Sansepolcro for the Saturday Market. What a blast! If you walk all the way to the end of the street you'll find just about everything you could need or want. We dropped in to a small Cafe Bar where we enjoyed the best pastries and cappuccinos! Our family of six all had a pastry and DH and I had a cuppa and our total bill was under 10 Euros! If I could think of anything more positive to write, you know I would. If you are looking for a lovely place, a wonderful host, bits of everything at your fingertips and a really good deal on how to spend your lodging budget, Casa Cappellino is just that! Kudos Dennis! We can't wait to come back!!!

Amazing Tuscan getaway
Amazing Tuscan getaway
My family and I stayed with Dennis and Kumiko last week and had an absolutely amazing time ! We were able to take advantage of the cooking classes and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the experience. The house is beautiful and in a quite relaxing location yet a few minutes drive to awesome Tuscan open aired markets. I would highly recommend this to others and we plan on coming back again !! Dennis and Kumiko are a plethora of knowledge with assisting with anything that you could possibly want to do in the surrounding areas as well as suggesting excellent restaurant choices in the immediate area.

12 Days at Casa Cappellino for our Honeymoon
12 Days at Casa Cappellino for our Honeymoon
First off, I cannot recommend Casa Cappellino enough. It felt like our home - was very comfortable and well maintained. The grounds are beautiful and the views breathtaking. The pictures do not do it justice! We spent 3 weeks in Italy and 12 days at this property which we used as our home base to explore the Italian countryside. It was so nice to spend a couple of those days just resting at Casa Cappellino and cooking a meal for ourselves. Dennis and Kumiko are gracious hosts and their recommendations were very helpful. We enjoyed the property and all the animals immensely...it was so great to return home and find Max, their dog, come up the hill to greet us. It's truly a magical place and made our honeymoon unforgettable!

My daughter and I spent a week at this lovely home and had an excellent experience! Dennis and Komiko were wonderful hosts; our email communications with Dennis prior to our arrival were very helpful in our trip planning. We enjoyed interacting with the animals and particularly enjoyed getting to know Max. The house was beautiful inside and out. We spent a good amount of time enjoying the terrace while planning our next days activities, eating dinner, and relaxing with a great bottle of wine. The home was well appointed and we had everything we needed to be completely comfortable. The area is charming. We spent happy days exploring the region. Among our favorite experiences were market day in Anghiari and a very relaxed morning spent at nearby La Verna. Our Tuscan holiday was enhanced by making this lovely home the base for our travels.

About the owner: My name is Dennis and I am a retired American living here in Tuscany, Italy. I am originally from the midwest but have lived in San Francisco, Houston and Washington DC. Before I retired I worked in the petrochemical industry for a major oil company and finished my career working the US government in Washington DC. Now, for the last six years, I am focused on my 50 olive trees, 250 grape vines, three chickens, and 12 ducks here at Casa Cappellino. I would love to meet you so please stop by for at least a glass of wine or better yet, a great vacation here in Italy.
Why the Owner Chose Caprese Michelangelo:
When I was about to retire from working in the USA I explored a number of areas to live throughout the world. But of all the countries I visited when I worked and when I was looking for a place to retire, the wonderful people of Italy and the beautiful country won me over. Cappellino is very relaxing with plenty of ideal places for simple walks or hikes. But also, the property is very centrally located such that days trips to many wonderful towns (Florence, Assisi, Cortona, Siena, Rimini, Chianti, Montalcino, etc.) are very easy. Many people also make day trips to Rome by driving to the nearby Arezzo train station and taking the 2 hour train to Rome and then return in the evening. As a break from day-trips consider one of our Authentic Tuscan Cooking Classes here at Cappellino that are hugely popular complete with buying ingredients in our local outdoor markets and complete meal preparation led by our local Italian chef including her marvelous fresh pasta and Casa Cappellino wine. Your experiencing the best possible vacation is our highest priority and we will do everything we can make your time here memorable.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The beauty of staying at Cappellino is you have your very own house. It is a beautifully restored stone Tuscan house and has everything you will need to feel completely at home. Within a 5 minute walk of your house you have a very charming grocery store and perhaps most importantly, you have Il Rifugio restaurant - the best Italian restaurant in the world!!!! Plus, staying at Casa Cappellino allows you to experience the Italy we have all dreamed about. Not gift shops and quick pizza focused on the tourism trade. Staying at Cappellino you will find beautiful, warm, Italian friends and neighbors who have lived here from generations with the added benefit of the best local Italian restaurants you could ever possibly find.
